How do you guys display your cars? Anyone know if any good glass display shelves? I see that someone posted some Ikea ones above, I even went to look at them at a store, but they have gaps.

I've got a dust issue, so my 1:18 scale collection has been hidden away in boxes, but I really want to display them. I've got an acrylic display case, but I find it ugly and hard to clean. It also holds only 12 cars, I have 13 I want to display. Been thinking about building my own wood shelf with glass shelves and an airtight glass door.

I bought these 1:24 Tamiya acrylic cases I have yet to open, and it's basically the acrylic rectangle with a black base.

None of my cars are actually displayed though.

Personally, I would build my own display unit....most likely with acrylic since glass cutting isn't a skill I currently possess.

Edit: Holy. This is a thing:

IIRC the Volkswagen VGT is a dealer edition made by Spark, so it is probably pretty hard to find.
Oh, and that 22B... I have it on pre-order lol.

I have a mix of enclosed multi-car acrylic display cases and just regular bookshelves, so a bit over half my displayed models have to be dusted.

Better hurry with that HPI, as it is long since out of production :sly:

Also pics of stuff:

Might post some more pics later...

A plain-body Hakosuka is also on my bucket list of model cars to acquire. holy moly

That low-clearance Challenger is really dope too. 👍

And that picture with the smaller-scaled blue Hakosuka (is it a 1/43?) is surprisingly cute, I really dug that one. But seriously, if a tuned Hakosuka can look as amazing as Venom's, I can only image how will an AUTOart stock version look... and it must be gorgeous.👍

Dunno how hard the regular KPGC10 is to find, as it is a few years old in either AUTOart or Kyosho form. AUTOart is doing a race version as well, in both race livery and plain body forms. Kyosho did the same before iirc.

AUTOart actually made a stock version a few years ago, though I much prefer the wide fender, wide wheeled version that I have ;)
And the blue 1/43 one is an Ignition Models one, which I posted a few pics of a while back.

I do guess that the tuned version has additional flair while managing to look remotely tasteful within the modifications it has. That's always a plus in my book, so I can tell why would it be a plus in your book as well. ;)
And the Ignition model is very nice, not an usual color for Hakosukas, but the blue suits it quite nicely.

Haha, I dig the "Black Team vs White Boys" layout in that picture, very cool touch. Oh, and that 944 is gorgeous, have I seen it before here?
Also, how much kidneys do I have to sell to have that wonderful set of Skyline GT-Rs? The only thing missing there is a Kenmeri Skyline and you'll have a full set...

The Porsche is actually a 924 Carrera GT, the predecessor to the 944 Turbo. Might get an AA 944 Turbo sometime to go with it though. And I dunno if i will get a Kenmeri Skyline, since the IG one I wanted sold out (didn't pre-order it), and no idea if IG will make any other variants that I'd like. Kyosho made one, but I dunno how hard it is to find. Doubt AUTOart will make one lol. I also need a R33 GT-R of some sort to finish it off.

Ah yes, I dun derp'd not once but twice, with the Porsche thing and the forgetting of the R33 (it is one of my least favorite Skylines, so that may have something to do with it)... :dunce: :ouch:

Bar that, the 924 Carrera GT is quite similar to the Turbo, mostly because the 944 was more evolution than revolution when it came to the 924's design and layout. It's still gorgeous, make no mistake about it...

And shame about the Kenmeri being so rare to find, but I wouldn't count AUTOart out just yet, they have made plenty of Skyline models, so why not finish the dynasty with the missing link? As for IG, it's the same story; it's a matter of "wait and see"... Regarding the R33, I bet that will be easier to find, since it is part of the modern Skyline generation.

That AA KPGC10 looks exquisite. I can definitely see the difference between that and my Kyosho (similar model). The ride height looks perfect.

Here's a repost of my Kyosho (need to take some new pics, maybe with a camera this time  ) If I remember correctly, it cost me around £40 at the time, but with the AA you're paying for the higher detail.

Nice Lotus, it's an Elise, right?

In other news, more stuff from Modeller's; not soon after announcing the addition of the Mitsubishi XR-PHEV Vision Gran Turismo car and the teasing of the Nissan 2020 VGT, both in 1/43 scale alongside the Mazda LM55, now they have a new model which will be added to their ranks;

11879074_1261090980583935_6419431052368940287_o.jpg

Yup, it's the Infiniti Vision GT. Modeller's are going wild with all the Japanese Vision GT cars, my god! The only cars they are missing (from the ones which have been released for GT6 so far) are all the Toyota Group's vehicles (i.e. the FT-1 VGT, the Subaru Viziv VGT and the Lexus LF-LC GT). And god only knows, they may just do that as well as adding the Honda and the Daihatsu...

Oh, and here's the 1/43 Mazda LM55 in all its fully painted glory for your eyes to behold;

It's expensive, yes. But it is a thing of beauty at the same time... Good lord almighty.

I require the Mazda.
And the Lotus is a Exige MKI, which I will soon take pics of with my MKII Exige from AA. :sly:

Ain't she pretty? Also, I'm sure you can require it, you do have the money. Just let one or two AA cars past, and allow a space in your budget for a Modeller's Mazda LM55, so that then you can share pictures of its beauty to us. I'd say it's a fair deal, no? :sly:

Also, i would love it if one of the Infiniti's colors was purple. If that's not possible, at least make a black one, Modeller's... And I can't believe that I screwed up another car naming, I'm a bit off today, haha.

Well, you were following AMG's post anyway. And the cars are fantastic. :D:tup:

I agree. The cars were nice but after being blinded by AMG what can you see. Just spots before one's eyes. And an ache somewhere between the third and fourth ribs.

Ok I said o was gonna do this like a few months ago so here we finally go. Rest of my Toyota collection. Pics kinda suck because they're just from my phone.

What a post. 👍 I want pretty much every car in there.

There's a reason why AUTOart's my favorite diecast brand.

So many pages since I last posted in here;missed chipping in on the 'AUTOart quality' discussion. IMO AUTOArt is the brand to go for - unless you pluck money out of thin air. Sure brands like Exoto, CM, etc have a little more detail, but when it comes to sheer value for money AA pulls well in front. They have the kind of quality that makes the price very, very tempting.

I got something just as beautiful & classy for you all. I found this at Toys R Us on the way home today:

View attachment 446548

I didn't even realize until I was taking this pic someone had broken the seal. :irked: Might as well:

View attachment 446549

OK, not beautiful & certainly not classy. Maybe cartoony. For $29.99, I figured it'd make a nice gift for my nephew. His dad likes diecast cars, and he is starting to get into it, too.

Still with the nephew story, eh.

So, I got four of these in today (only took photos of two though xD)

And I know this is generally about cars, but I got these in too (which I like even more than those Lotus Evoras!)

Lots of stuff posted in here - not only cars, Gadget - there's ships, planes and tanks in here.
Guess when one likes scale models one likes scale models. Those engines are awesome. More angles? Who makes them?

Nicest diecast within the reach. :D

Not for me, man. I'd certainly pick something nicer for myself than a Jada 1/18!

I'm on to you, Zero - you buy the cheap stuff to practise then you go after the quality for yourself.
What a guy. :sly:

The niche market in diecasts is certainly heating up - VGT cars? I mean how many diecast collectors would actually have played GT or even heard about it? To me, the LM55 means so much because of having experienced it in so many ways in the game.
That one is a must buy for me and maybe some of the other VGTs too.

Hehe, that HPI Alfa is 1 of 2 not Porsche in my 1/18 collection :). And it's still in the box, somewhere in the garage :scared:

I'll give you a rundown of the VGT cars that are released, in scales:

1:64

- TLVN Nissan 2020 Vision Gran Turismo

1:43

- Norev Alpine Vision Gran Turismo
- Modeller's Mazda LM55 VGT
- Modeller's Mitsubishi XR-PHEV Evolution VGT
- Modeller's Nissan 2020 VGT
- Modeller's Infiniti VGT

1:18

- AUTOart Bugatti VGT

People were raging on the diecast forum I go to when AA announced they may be doing the Bugatti VGT. People saying the car is ugly or "not another videogame car" etc. Same group of people complained about both AA Red Bull X20xx cars AA made, along with the stealth editions. Though, there wasn't as much hate on the GT LM Spec II's for some odd reason... Diecast collectors are a weird bunch of people...

To some I guess it must feel like adulterating the hobby in some way by bringing in fantasy cars.
But what about the Batmobile then? Now there's a diecast popular in so many scales and variations and people snap them up. The problem with VGTs are that they blur the line between fantasy and reality and confuse the heck out of everybody.

Well, just like in any hobby you are gonna see double standards I guess lol

Anyway massive pic dump, so big I'm gonna have to use thumbnails so I don't explode internet browsers (or entire computers :sly:)

It's funny that people complain about the Bugatti VGT when it's one of the very few concepts which actually move under its own power, unlike most of the VGT cars which have had real-life scale models that are not much more than mere rollers (i.e. they do not have engines or drivetrains to make them move). The RedBull X cars are amongst the latter type of cars, while the Bugatti is a real-life car which can be driven (somewhat). But then again, perhaps some of those diecast fans are also GT players who hate the Vision GT cars, and are carrying over their pet hate to the diecast side of things. These cars are about as polarizing as "normal" concept cars (if not more), so I'm not entirely surprised. I just don't know why do they make so much noise about it, it's only one "videogame car" which is a VGT and will probably cost roughly the same as two small LCD monitors, so it won't be a common car anyways. The Ford gets away with being a videogame car because it is based off a real-life production car, one which people know well, so that's why it isn't so criticized.

But if they already dislike the Bugatti this much, I can only wonder how mad they would get if someone picked either the SRT Tomahawk, or even the Chaparral 2X... Now those would rile people up quite like nothing else. I guess people aren't entirely open towards variety in cars, but that's how real-life works anyway for other things, haha.

Oh, and that last post of yours has too much pornographic material, you're breaking the AUP rules. :sly:

While AUTOart is yet to be sure of making a scale model version of the Bugatti VGT, two resin model brands are definitely having it a go.

MR Collection announced that it will release the said VGT in 1:18 scale.

While Looksmart will also make one, albeit in 1:43.

Looks like the Bugatti VGT has generated a lot of buzz. So much it got the attention of not just one, but THREE of scale model manufacturers.

Bloody hell, saying that the Bug(atti) has caused a buzz is a severe understatement. Although to be honest, I don't know much about either Looksmart and/or MR Collection, so I personally think that the AUTOart version will still be the best of the three. Of course, with both Look and MR's car being resin models, they'll have a market of their own to fight in (although Looksmart has to compete with Modeller's when it comes to resin 1:43 models, Modeller's only have the Japanese VGT cars as part of their model line, so they're safe for now).

And with this, the Bugatti automatically beats the Nissan 2020 VGT (which had two models, Tomica Limited Vintage Neo's 1:64 and Modeller's 1:43 cars) as the most reproduced Vision Gran Turismo car in scale model form. Whether people like or not, Bugatti has created quite the notorious concept...

LookSmart and MR are sister companies, sorta like GT Spirit and Ottomobile. I have several 1/43 LookSmarts myself, and they are very, very good models. They are roughly in line with BBR in terms of detail and cost. Good chance I will end up with at least the LookSmart 1/43 Bugatti VGT. All depends on what sort of wallet rape the AA 1/18 will cost...

The Kyosho KPGC10 isn't a bad model at all, though it is quite a bit older than the newer AA.
I agree. I think I got it about 8 or 9 years ago, i'd really love to acquire the AA version though. It just looks so right.

Sweet deal.
The more I think about it, it may have actually been closer to £50 (blame my failing old age memory). Still not too bad and i'd say a fair price, even in todays money.

Some slightly better pics: (please excuse dust and cat hairs).

Thing that bugs me about it though.. it has no front spoiler. There are Kyosho versions that have it, and the holes are there for it to have one, so I may just have to make one for it.

Looks slightly more in focus, Dr. Nessy. :P

I'd just leave it without the chin-spoiler. It looks perfect to me.

I told myself to only buy 1/18s if I will modify them. I told myself this because I feared I would spend until the wallet goes dry.

Today I bought two cars at a flea market. Two Bburagos. The boxes were in horrid condition. The old dude was listing them for $45, but again, everything did not even look presentable. The models were not screwed into their base, the plastic sheet cover from the box was yellowed and the adhesive peeled off.

Some of the decals on the F40 were unfortunately peeling, and I can't see myself being able to restore this. But I couldn't take my eyes off the wheels and how much went into assembling the engine. You wouldn't believe me, but when I pointed out where the decal was peeling, this man licked his finger and actually tried to burnish the edge of the decal with the edge of his fingernail. Wow. I can't believe I still purchased it after witnessing this, not to mention him ripping the box trying to take the car out to show it to me. But to close up that case, I will have to scrap all the decals and plan a plain-body repaint in the future.

The E-Type looked fine overall, but the biggest deal-breaker was the chipped edges along the edge of the door line. This can be fixed, but it just means a repaint is enqueue. And a repaint means I lose the license plate stickers. The colour of the body isn't bad, but it wasn't impressing me. I'll definitely repaint it with leftover paint I have from painting this tiny toy:

Jaguar+E-Type.jpg

So why did I still buy them despite all the imperfections (and germs) that are on it? Guy was willing to discount me $10 per car. $35 a Bburago. Not bad considering $30 about the price he most likely bought them for. With tax here, he probably only profited $2.2 off me. But the drawback is that I have crappy packaging to live with. That won't stop me from acquiring a display case though.

Some slightly better pics: (please excuse dust and cat hairs).

Looks tight.

I'd just leave it without the chin-spoiler. It looks perfect to me.

But... what about the formula to making a beast Skyline? Surely you have heard of it.

Front spoiler + lowered stance + colour-contrasting-the-chrome paintjob = x 10^46523467.
