I don't believe the new setup will affect my sig (or avatar for that matter) at all.

 I guess not. I'll just leave mine for now and redo it when the new site comes. Besides, mine is outdated anyway.

Will there be a change as to how many lines can be in a signature?

I know this wont get me anywhere but I'll lob the back out.
TB
If every facet of the new layout is described, where's the excitement and anticipation of discovering for ourselves? ;)

Don't be silly. We want to know everything. And we want to know it by yesterday.

And while you're at it, I want the moon. On a stick.

Ah, but one man's ceiling is another man's floor.

Well, not every post.

Will the new version address the problem of unread messages being improperly tracked?

I turn signatures off on most forums, they just clutter the place up. Even more so the boards that allow gaudy colours or even worse, huge images.

Is the new forum software XenForo? Sounds like a lot of the changes are similar or inline with Racedepartment. Either way though, really looking forward to the unveiling!

Good luck in the lab Jordan!

Read this right as I was about to grab my USB stick and transfer some photos from it to the PC hard drive, then to my own album. But, there will in fact be other similar opportunities at some point, I'm sure.

Did I read this right? You're working on a new improved version of the site which isn't ready yet and has no ETA, but in the meantime you already updated the Android app so it doesn't work properly on Smartphones and then removed it from the Play Store a month ago.

Anyone remember Osborne computers? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_effect

I have no idea what this may have to do with the Osborne effect, either, even if the answer were "yes".

You're quite far off the mark, and a universal, free site software update has nothing to do with the Osbourne effect.

Also, the last update to the Android app (v1.3.4) was published on December 9, 2012, and had a 4.46/5 rating with 42,274 installs. Despite all its functional shortcomings, I presume it was at least "working properly" for someone out there.

This announcement was made to make the community aware of the upcoming discontinuation of several site features (groups, photos, etc.) and to explain why the apps would no longer be available in their respective stores.

Like the iPhone app, it's no longer in the store but still works. Albeit with a few more parse errors from time to time.

I was able to find a download link on this site for 1.3.4 and installed it on my Note 3. Like others have mentioned the News page is being rendered 3000 pixels wide which makes reading news somewhat like reading a newspaper with a loupe.

Just because the site is free doesn't mean it isn't a commercial product. There are paid memberships as well as advertising. The reference to the Osborne effect is a company which announced a new more advanced product that took longer to deliver than expected, and which (inadvertently in their case) killed off their existing product.

Imagine Google shutting down their search engine. When the forums light up their response is, yes we did that because we're going to release a much better version sometime in the next few months.

Sooo, whats the relevance here? The site is still working, the app is still working (can't verify personally, I use my mobile browser), everything is as it should be. I posted, you posted, everyone is posting. So I would assume the site is still up and functioning. Jordan put out a while ago there will be an update, but, as does tend to happen, some problems where found that pushed back the update. However, nothing is turned off. The only thing gone is the app from the app stores. There really is nothing to compare between gtplanet and the osbourne corp. This is a fte to join web forum, not a for profit, worried about the share holders corporation. I certainly do not see a flood of users canceling their gtp accounts, because the update hasn't happened.

Are there any updates as to when we'll be moving to new servers that support GTP12?

I noticed that too. Checking some things probably.
