All of this sounds awesome. If I may ask one more question, will we still be able to change our profile's avatar to a picture straight from our phone's? If not than will there be an alternative way to set avatars?

That would be a neat feature. Uploading photos right from an iPod camera roll would be cool.

Also, with the new mobile site feature everything the new standard website will?

You may already know this, but the iOS app for GTPlanet (don't know about Android); (current app that is being used as of right now), allows you to upload pics straight from your photo gallery. But I am interested to see what kind of photos are produced from the iPod. I've heard they are really good.

Edit: All of the avatars that I've used (between 4-6) were from my phone.

I've never seen that feature.

If you were to enter the app for GTP, go into the tab named "profile", tap the avatar that you are currently using, which should bring you to a menu at the bottom saying the following:

"Upload a new avatar...

From camera.
From Library."

If I could give a visual look on how this works, I would, but sadly I can't post right from my phone. Glad the new site will allow us to post pics from the phone.

Edit: This works. I'm positive it does.

Do you have a solid release date yet?
I really wanted it to be out for the Tokyo Game Show / Jalopnik Film Festival, but I've realized it would be a bit suicidal to try and support the new site while away from home, during a flurry of GT6 news and traffic. I'm now aiming for a date somewhere around Friday, September 27.

Is this new software still going to be vBulletin based or will it be an entirely different forum platform?

Will any allowances get a bump?, I would love to see the avatar sized limit increased even if its slightly because they haven't changed for nearly a decade now I think.
It will be an all-new forum software platform, hence the lengthy development time. Avatar limits will remain the same.

Yes, you'll be able to upload new avatars directly from your phone or tablet.

Will the New Mobile Website work like the iOS app? Will it have the My GTPlanet function?
Yes, the new mobile website will include all of the features and functionality offered by the full site.

It's not being removed. It's being removed from the Google Play store and App Store - you can still use it until the site changes. There'll be no need for it. The site will automatically optimise for your device:
Actually on this note, what do you recommend to use with the new mobile site, the Safari that came with my phone, or the Google Chrome app I also use? Or are you not expecting there to be any difference between them.

I'd imagine between browsers they are the same.

Will http://www.gtplanet.net/forum still take me directly to the forums?

It will work well with any mobile browser, so whichever you prefer. 👍

Yes.

This is great news as a WP user there wasnt GTP app and using browser was a pain. Hope that everything will go well. 👍

Will there be different versions of the website for different devices? An ipad version, mobile version, pc version, ect? If so, will you be able to switch from, say, the ipad version to the main, pc version?

I believe it is one site that suits all, from a phone to a PC.

This is somewhat hard to describe, assuming you're not a web designer or developer: it's a layout for the site which is specially designed to "collapse" in an elegant way for all different screen sizes. There is no different "version" for different devices - the content on the page simply repositions itself in a way that is best formatted for the width of your screen. This is called "responsive" web design.

To see a responsive website in action, check out The Boston Globe or Jalopnik. If you're on a computer, grab the edge of your browser window and make it narrower; that's what their site will look like on a smartphone or tablet.

Although it is a very complex and difficult to design and build (hence the reason most sites don't use responsive designs), if done well it can offer all the benefits of a "mobile optimized" site without the drawbacks typically associated with them.

Err if the app is supposedly dead now, how come I am posting from it now?

Or have I mis interpreted something?

The app is not dead yet. Just not available for download. It will die when the new site software goes live OoA the end of this month.

Jordan: Can't wait to see what you have prepared for us in this iteration.

I'd like to make a request that you have heard before. Dark Theme. Please, for us night owls. :dopey:

Agreed! =P

I like the option of several forum themes to change to whenever we want. That was an option on an old forum I used to frequent, they had like 5 themes.

Seconded. I'd rather just use a theme than have to turn my brightness and contrast way down.

Will we sill be able to send a message to multiple people?

What is the new limit on PM storage?

I thought Jordan said the PM system would be replaced by a "private thread" system, which could mean unlimited "PM" storage and much more efficent - as well as unlimited - mass "PM" capability.

I just realized though, what happens to visitor messages and our existing PMs? I might have to save some things to a .txt file at some point. Got a lot of old Partisans planning sitting in my PM box, from back when ParkourVeyron & I were both active.

(Hey, what happened to him, anyway? He stopped posting before I returned and dropped off entirely some time after.)

Sorry, guys, don't get your hopes up for a "dark" theme any time soon.

Yes.

There will be no limit to the number of private messages you can save in your account.

Existing private messages and visitor messages will be imported over to the new software, so you shouldn't lose anything.

Regarding posting pix; Will we be able to drag and drop or use tue copy/paste function from our (iOS) Photo Roll?

iOS 7 is pounding on the door. Have you been using the beta to help optimize the new site?

YouTube videos; when we "copy" a link, if we paste it in a post, will the proper embedding codes automagically generate?
