Another site I go to is ditching VB and their new forums look terrible, so I'm nervous. ;x

I'm probably just used to having VB be basically the default forum software for almost every forum I've posted on, though.

It's not phpBB because it doesn't contain a lot of the features Jordan has mentioned. Same with Zetaboards and Proboards, they're all free alternatives to paid options like vBulletin and IPB.

I like VB because its familiar from site to site, I have also seen some dreadful forum software like the one on the official Playstation forums running on Lithium :ouch:

I'm now aiming for a date somewhere around Friday, September 27.

Is there a more concrete date than this? Or is it really coming tomorrow. :D (I'm tempering my hopes though)

No, nothing will happen tomorrow. I'm now targeting next Friday, October 4. I'll make the official announcement as soon as the date is set.

We are not a subsidiary of Polyphony Digital.

I think he was poking fun at the fact the 3rd is on a Thursday, not a Friday(and won't be until 2017, so we may be waiting awhile:lol:)

Hmm, sorry, I had looked at the calendar to confirm the date. I must be losing it.

Or you may need a vacation.

He deserves one after all the work he has done. Go on, just relax on the beach or something. 👍 After all, nothing could possibly go wrong right?

Or you may need a vacation.

I read this in the normal tone of how I tend to mean "vacation" in the GT6 forum, and was incredibly confused by the conversation for a few seconds. In the proper sense, though; I agree!

What will happen to our premium memberships? will they still be valid?

I'm pretty sure they will still be valid. I doubt the new layout would effect your membership.

Yes, Premium memberships will remain valid and unaffected.

Is the 4th of october the date when the GTP app will be on tthe apple store aswell?
There will be no more GTP app. The site will respond to whatever device you visit it with and optimise itself automatically to that device through your browser.

So it will run like the Gtp app for easier use right? Because I've lost my app and this safari is a nightmare.

I don't really follow what you're asking.

You visit the GTP URL using the browser on your device - computer, phone, tablet - and GTP recognises your device and optimises itself to it. No apps.
The mobile apps will be replaced by the new site itself, which is fully responsive and highly optimized to offer a full (and fast!) experience on all types of smartphones, tablets, and PCs.

I get what your saying, but what I'm asking is when we go on gtp and It reconizes my phone then optimises itself will it run like an app for ease of use.

The gtp app was awesome for its ease of use via a mobile and this safari is so hard and annoying.

It'll run like the site does for anyone else on any other device, more or less.

Take Jordan's advice from earlier in the thread and head over to Jalopnik to see what a responsive site looks like in action. GTP will behave similarly.
This is somewhat hard to describe, assuming you're not a web designer or developer: it's a layout for the site which is specially designed to "collapse" in an elegant way for all different screen sizes. There is no different "version" for different devices - the content on the page simply repositions itself in a way that is best formatted for the width of your screen. This is called "responsive" web design.

To see a responsive website in action, check out The Boston Globe or Jalopnik. If you're on a computer, grab the edge of your browser window and make it narrower; that's what their site will look like on a smartphone or tablet.

Although it is a very complex and difficult to design and build (hence the reason most sites don't use responsive designs), if done well it can offer all the benefits of a "mobile optimized" site without the drawbacks typically associated with them.
Incidentally, you can get Google Chrome for iOS if you're not getting along with Safari.

Not having seen or played with the new site, I would venture a guess that the new website probably won't look like the old app. I wouldn't hold my breath for them to be the same. The new website though, as mentioned, will be responsive and self optimizing, so I anticipate much of the difficulty in using the current full site on your mobile device should go away.

There were significant limitations to the old app anyways, and there were some very counter-intuitive ways of doing things on the app. The new agile, responsive website aims to solve that by having a fairly common platform and UI so that most things will be familiar and all features will be present whether you're on a desktop or a mobile device, but at the same time, be able to adjust based on the screen real estate you have, so that it will still be nice and easy to navigate the site, no matter the device.

Jordan knows what he's doing. Be patient and trust him.

Incidentally, you can get Google Chrome for iOS if you're not getting along with Safari.

It's not really iOS Safari itself making GTP hard to use, so much as the unoptimized full online version as crammed onto the small display in iOS Safari (as well as in iOS Chrome) making links very small and the site hard to navigate, and requiring a lot of zooming in and out. The app had a completely different UI from the normal web version that made browsing on a touch iOS mobile device significantly easier.

IIRC, FK does use the full web version, so it can be done; it's just not a very pleasant experience. Obviously, hence the new responsive website aspect in the GTP update.

Since nobody has asked yet:

1. Will the sounds in the new version of GTP be improved?
2. Will standard posts be upgraded to premium?
3. Are there any plans for a collectors version of GTP?

:P
