Ah, a freshly stocked fridge.

đź‘Ť MGD is my go to beer when I go out to a sports bar with friends.

Unless it is dollar beer night or someone else is buying I do not drink Miller, Bud, or Coors branded products (or any of the even cheaper American beers).

That said, I do like Killian's and Blue Moon, which are owned by Coors.

Considering that Galliano tastes like licorice, I think "Harvey Toilethugger" would be a better name, but apparently some people like it.

Really? Like black licorice? You must've been drinking some rancid Galliano. Its vanilla sweetness is far more distinct.

It's actually a "Slow Comfortable Screw" because it has a shot of sloe gin in it, not extra vodka. They're actually pretty good, even if they did launch the whole Drinks with Sexual Innuendo Names craze. At least this one makes sense, unlike the legions of moronic followers.
Very true. Those "slippery/buttery nipple", or "bjs" are way overnamed.

And you add Galliano for the "...up against the Wall" part, because Galliano is the chief ingredient in a Harvey Wallbanger.

:tup:I was JUST about to point that out. you don't add a "harvey wallbanger as it is a mixed drink already.

And if you notice, whenever you go to a bar, that bottle (Galliano) will be either hidden or all the way in the back of the bottom shelf. The damn thing is annoying to lift..it's like a huge heavy bat.

Actually I agree with Duke on this one. It does taste vanilla-ish, but it's licorice flavor ruins it for me. Another one I can't stand is Sambuca :yuck:

ahh gotcha.

Add rum to anything and it instantly becomes toilethugging for me.

Don't you just hate it when you get severly ****faced with some spirit and days later everything you drink tastes like said spirit? I remember when I graduated from college, I drank a half bottle of Absolut straight up in one swallow... apart from the obligatory toilet hugging episode, even cofee tasted like vodka for the following week. :yuck:

That sounds like a good reason NOT to drink.

I have cultivated a new favorite.
My 3rd son recently turned 21.
In his first foray into liquor buying, he bought a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream.
It was okay straight.
But after dinner, adding it to your decaf coffee...sublime.

Eh I prefer Apple Pie, with of course good 'ol Everclear (unless we're talking about the same thing!) :P

I didn't drink for about two months after it, does that count?

Anyhow, back on topic... I tried cider the other day. British cider, like the sort daan drinks. The brand was Magners, which I hadn't heard of, though I think it's one of the top British brands (I'd heard of Strongbow) . I have to say, it's really really good. Tastes like a mix between traditional cider and beer... served over ice... hmmm!

Though at 3€ per 500ml can I have to say it's really expensive.

Magners is a good cider (well, for mass-produced Cider anyway). You can get pear ciders from them too. Yes, it is also more expensive than the other ciders. You'll probably pay ÂŁ3-ÂŁ3.50 for a pint of it in a pub.

It was Magners I was spilling drinking that night, and it is a nice tasting cider.

However, if I'm buying cider to drink in the house, I'll buy Bulmers which is nearly as good and cheaper.

I thought I'd show you guys a line up from last week that we took while destroying ourselves.
- Click for larger image.

In that pic is the following (we already started drinking :P):
1.5 x Bombora Rum (Malibu knock-off)
1.5 x Cougar Bourbon (Nice with Coke)
1 x Bacardi 151 Rum (75.5% alcohol anyone? :D)
1.25 x Bundaberg Red Rum (Extra Smooth)
1/2 x Cowboy shot bottle.

There wasn't enough room to fit the other cowboy flavours (strawberry & banana).

I always though cider and beer were in the same price range

Depends where you go. You can pay anything from ÂŁ2.20-ÂŁ2.50 for a pint in some places, and up to ÂŁ5 in London for the same pint. Strongbow tends to be in the price bracket of cheaper beers. Magners is always more expensive though. Then again, it's the best branded cider you'll find (that I know of, anyway).

Apple cider is delicious. Perfect drink for winter :P. More alcohol than beer, too!

Apple cider is nice, but I prefer a good pear cider myself

I strongly recommend you try the Bulmers perry, its the one in the green foil rather than the gold foil. đź‘Ť

There are several beer threads, considered making a Whisky one, but decided against it, will just keep in this thread.

I 've just come back from the Whisky Fair in Limburg (Essen, Germany).

Best drams:
* Bowmore 17y sherry Dewar Rattray, they had not bottle left
* Bunnahabhain 9y sherry THE NECTAR
* Bunnahabhain 25y the stadard bottle
* Glegoyne 37y refill bourbon THE NECTAR
* Port Ellen, 27y bourbon Alambic Classique
* Mortlag, refill bourbon, Villa Konthor

Other sips: 40y Longmorn, sherry, Alambic Classique; 26y Brora; 25y Caol Ila Cadenheads, ... and just a limited amount more (went by bus)

I bought a St Magdalene, 27y, Bourbon, Whisky Tales (thought maybe 58% as first whisky in the morning did not let me taste all of it) and the 26y Linlithgow that I tried afterwards just was less. I've been chasing a decent extra bottle from this distillery for a while. Bunnahabhain 9y from The Nectar as mentioned above.

Did ask some prices for a Rare Malts Port Ellen 22y, but at 450€ decided to leave it to people that have less Port Ellen stock.

I do analyse, but limit notes lately, so no more detailed description for the curious.

I wish I could really contribute to this discussion. Being 18 I haven't tried too many drinks yet, but I do like me some Drambuie when having a drink with my father (his and his father's favourite drink too). At parties with friends Jagerbombs are pretty fun :)

As for the cider discussion, for me it's Magners > Bulmers > Strongbow, but I'm happy to drink any of them.

I guess it's best for me to lurk this thread and be educated :D

I don't know if it's the medication that's making me feel strange, or the possible vodka Granny secretly sneaks into my drink.

I love a good single mat whisky..

Glenfiddich 12and 15yr
Old Putney 12yr, and Glenlivet 12yr

Outside of that, I like tripple distilled potatoe vodka with a splash of cranberry juice.

Fully agree with:
Glenfiddich 15yr = I guess the Solera reserve
Old Putney 12yr

The other 2 are very basic I find, but good references for the basic Speyside taste. On the other hand I'm quite spoiled on this domain and spend much more money on this then on Race Simulators!

Try to get a Glenfiddich 12 Caoran reserve it is already quite an upgrade from the standard 12y.
