Yesterday, on Metacritic the user score rating for GT7 dropped significantly. I remember seeing 5.4
Today, at the time of writing this, it is down to 3.0
It continues to fall, 2.6 now...

I hope it will make Snoy and PD react.

It was as high as 6.8 on Monday 6th of March. You can follow the development on the ”Wayback Machine”:

6.8 is probably fair and more representative of the state of the game to be honest. Brilliant fun but so many things wrong that they can't just be ignored.

Yeah, because after release everyone was still in awe, and thought the menu books are just scratching the surface of the game. Oh, How wrong we were.
They made a game that was only meant to be enjoyed for a couple of days, just long enough for the reviewers to not find out that it's really an empty shell of a game. And they put in zero effort to make it any longer than that. Review bait.

How long will it take me for my review to be posted? I've tried on the web browser where pressing "submit" gives me a 404, and it's taking forever to post on my phone.

Are you guys really surprised this game is getting less than 80? Hell even 70?

Cmon! turn off the blinders please. Think about the perfect GT, what 1, 2, 3, 4 had, with 2022 graphics and 2022 cars. Does gt7 have that? Can you play offline? Can you sell cars? Is there crash/collision visible damage to the cars? If answer is no, at this day in age? Lol! anything over 75 is being too generous. Also not counting GT Sport, they've been working on GT7 since 2014.

:embarrassed: Sad to see, but they can fix all the negativity with a few changes. Interesting to see what happens next.

Extract taken from Website Header:
"Update: Gran Turismo 7 has achieved the unfortunate accolade of having the lowest Metacritic user score in Sony exclusive history. The score of 2.2 – which is still falling – puts it below the likes of Cool Boarders 2001 on PS1. It’s a sharp message from fans (and, presumably, some trolls) that Polyphony Digital has work to do."

This is fully deserved and I really hope PD are paying attention.

My personal view is that it's going to need more than a few changes, and it's not just the game either.

The game needs a total overhaul of the in-game economy, that's not a quick fix. They could apply band-aids here and there, but right now the critical view of GT7 is against them, and not just acting significantly, but being seen to act significantly, is needed. This, despite the significant change required, is actually the easy bit.

The much harder change required is a cultural one, as the 'non-apology' for always online and MXTs from Kaz and PD, shows that a disconnect exists between Kaz & PD, and some of the audience for GT7, and more importantly the view of the industry around the use of MTXs in full price titles.

If that cultural ideology around this approach is as deep as it seems, we may even see a doubling-down on it before we see a fix.

To be blunt if GT7 was a new IP, rather than the seventh full release in the series, even the press reviews would not be as blind to it's obvious flaws (not dismissing it's strengths) as they have been.

For curiosity purposes, how low does one reckon the metacritic score need to be in order to create genuine noise and reaction from Polyphony Digital and Kazunori Yamauchi himself? I get the impression that even at 2.0 (21 March 2022 - 10am GMT) isn’t really going to inflict a proper reaction if I’m honest.

We got that reaction.

It was 'sorry the servers went down, and now we are nerfing the grid to make it even harder, because reasons'.

I guess - I probably should have been more clearer by saying how low must the score be to force PD to rethink again and actually start paying much closer attention to the player base. If anything - the pre 1.07/1.08 version was somewhat acceptable and the metacritic score was more around 6.5/7 or something like that. I don’t think the “apology” is much of a reaction in all honesty but we can only hope for the future of GT7.

At the time of that reaction, the game had still a "solid" 6
All I know is that less of a backlash, fewer issues, and a massive level of communication and post go-live support that turned Driveclub around didn't save either than IP or Evolution Studio from Sony's axe.

I suspect however that PD are a lot better insulated, they shouldn't be, but I think they are.
