[GUIDE] Historic Racing Car Cup

Used the camaro 69, RM full tune racing softs, tuned the gear ratio for deep forest up to around 167 mph and for monaco set it to about 142 ish. Done with DS3 cleared both by around 4 seconds. Was super easy.

Get the Toyota 7 by winning Like the wind event in B-spec.

Or if you stumble across a 2J in the lot, get it. Its a nice car to own anyways.

Finally after leveling up my bob to lvl 22 vs lvl 19 last time round, he did it.
Now he does not crash into the walls anymore.

Did it with the Toyota 7, fully tuned and gear ratios adjusted to 300km/h max so that acceleration is quicker for Monaco.

He managed to overtake the leading 2J cleanly on lap 3. 👍

Maybe it's a little like cheating.... but I traded Live_from_NY 3 cars for a Mk. IV, traded someone else for a 2J, slapped a high-rpm turbo on it and won by 30-40 seconds easily on the first try. Had a lot of fun doing it as well, what a fantastic car.

The 2J with the turbo is the way to go 👍

Although i used the 10,000cr turbo, and had that 2J breathing down my neck, trying to capitalize on my every mistake... It was some of the most fun i had in GT5 so far!

I bronzed both the races with the '69 Z28 RM'd. However, I anticipated the car to oversteer hence did some mods to induce understeer. Infact, with normal settings it understeers so much that I'm cranking up the suspension to induce oversteer now.

Does anyone have a good tune for making this thing turn properly? And any general tuning tips for this cup?

I hate Cote d'Azur track after this cup. It's BS.

Managed Ist in both with the Lamborghini Countach LP400 '74 last night.
Contrary to what some people say Deep Forest was easier than Cote.
Had a 1sec win at DF with the Final Gear at 186 and for Cote set it to 168.

At Cote I managed to get to first at the first bend at the end of the straight by using the 2J to get me round. If you don't do that it's gone like the wind! Won by 0.5secs.

Ps Was going to upload to Youtube but don't know how to. Any ideas?

Happy racing

LOL! You really have no clue...

Thank you for your - ahem - kind sentiments(!)

The Stratos is pretty useless. The car itself is awesome, but it doesn't have any use, I had long since won all the Rally Hall in the Delta S4 from the Gallardo Event right after this one.

I'm just saying that, unless you're a fan, there isn't a "point" to winning the Stratos.

On a less annoying note: Damn this thread has gotten huge, I really didn't know just how hard this event was. I'll definitely write another guide in the future, but I'm not sure for which event. :)

So it's "crap" because you don't need it...

I did this event (Monaco) with Race Modification Dodge Challenger, full souped up.
I first tried it with racing hards and then mediums (if I remember correct, it was also possible to do with soft racing tires). Cleared event with DS3, ABS 1, skid recovery on. Won it by 5 seconds.

More tough race was Deep Forest Raceway. Toyota 7 was always slipstreaming me on main straight, but managed to keep him behind.

Which car is good for the B-Spec event? I tried using the RM Camaro which I won the event in A-Spec, but in B-Spec my guy is useless with it.

Have just tried this with a 2J and I must say, so much easier. :)

So if you really can't do it with the Countach (Which I'm sure everyone can, I did) you can wait it out for a 2J or a Toyota 7 Racecar if need be.

Just for a comparison, On Deep Forest Raceway I can lap 1:16's in the Countach while the 2J is doing 1:09's and better.

Hello everyone,

I've noticed a lot of people - myself included - have been having trouble with this event (first up: I'm using a controller)... Anyway, the usual line up of opponents consists of cars like the Toyota 7, Chaparral 2J, Ferrari P4, Ford Mark IV, etc.

Unfortunately, to keep up with these guys, it would mean buying a car of similar spec, that is ALSO pre-1979. Alas, they are all in the $20,000,000 bracket and you're wasting your money if you want to spend all that money on a single car, for a single event.

If you have a hefty amount of money, you can get lucky and buy the Toyota 7 from the Car Lot for about $3,000,000. I'm not sure how well it would do (as I didn't use it), but I'd assume it would make things MUCH easier.

HOWEVER, the way I - and a few others - have completed this event, is with the Lamborghini Countach LP400 '74.

You can buy the Lambo for about $300k off the Car Lot, or you can win it from the "Lamborghini Exclusive" event in A-Spec Pro, I'd recommend winning it as it will be new and you don't need to worry about Engine Repair and whatnot.

Update: Other Cars to Try:
If you don't like the Lambo, here is a list of other car that work (according to other members):
  • Chevrolet Camaro Z28 RM '69
  • Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C2) Race Car '63
  • Chaparral 2J Race Car '70
The ugly one with the jets, it'll win EASY, but it's a waste of money...
  • Toyota Toyota 7 Race Car '70
It's a Prize Car in B-Spec "Like the Wind"
  • Ford Mark IV Race Car '67, Ferrari 330 P4 Race Car '67, Jaguar XJ13 Race Car '66
They're all $20mill, but if you've got one, great!
...and here are some cars that a commonly asked about, but that (usually) don't work (or are a waste of time, because just use one above):
  • Buick Special '62
  • Dodge Challenger R/T RM '70
  • Ferrari 512BB '76
Anyway, back to the guide, which will assume you went ahead with the Lambo...

Once you've got your Lambo, tune it up. To the max. Add EVERYTHING. Including ride-height adjustable suspension; and customizable transmission. In addition: ADD A WING, the added downforce works wonders. (Also: I used Racing - Medium tyres)

Now, tune your Lambo. I dropped my gear ratios so the top speed was 260kmh (Approx. 162mph). A top speed of about 170mph will do nicely. Then drop the ride-height, I set mine to -10 front and back. I also adjusted the brakes to 6 front, 4 back, but I don't think this makes much difference.

The only setting I have is ABS at 1. However, I did turn the racing line on. I do NOT recommend you follow it (because it'll be too slow), but it's a helpful reminder that "this turn is tighter than it looks". Now you're ready to hit the track. The technique for both tracks is the same and you must follow it EXACTLY.

First, you must eliminate the bullcrap-fast-AI car the usually pops up in events. You know, that one car that is always INSANELY fast. Keep exiting and re-entering until there are (usually) two moderately faster cars, rather than one insanely fast car.

Second, you need to get in front AS QUICK AS YOU CAN, once the race progresses a bit, you wont stand a chance.
  • On Cote d'Azur, you can get to at least 3rd on the first corner. If you're not 1st by the really tight hairpin. Restart.
  • On Deep Forest, you can get to about 4th by out braking and running on the inside of the first bend. By the time you reach the first tunnel, you should be 2nd. By the time you reach the back straight, you should be 1st. If not, restart.

Once you're first, the rest is pretty straight forward. Drive like a madman and don't mess up. There is ZERO margin for error and the Lambo's shorter gear ratios (for the turns) means you need to block on the straights.

A few last-minute tips:
  • The Lambo is back heavy, which means you cannot turn AND power-out of a corner. Slow down A LOT if you need to in a tight corner, to make sure you can have the fastest and STRAIGHTEST path out of the corner. Keep in mind to make sure to KEEP BLOCKING if you need to.
  • The Lambo can easily out-brake the opponents, but don't get too cocky, especially in combination with the point above.
  • Once you've gone past the 1 lap mark, if anyone gets past you, you might as well restart.
  • Relax a bit. For some reason, I've noticed that the AI slows down a bit when you're IN FRONT. The reason I say this is because, if I didn't get first at the start, they'd always rocket away from me, but if I got it, I'd be able to keep them behind me (even before I needed to block).
  • Relax A LOT. If you're like me, towards the end, you'll be getting a bit twitchy, because this is an intense race. If you need to, PAUSE. As I've said, there is ZERO MARGIN FOR ERROR.
  • ...and as a warning, the car you win is crap... So don't expect an awesome prize for beating this impossible event.

GOOD LUCK!

I spent a crap load of money tuning it up and used the tuning settings but i cannot get the lambo to turn , so much understeer .

Just beat it after trying the Challenger RM and the Countach and I think the Lambo is the way to go. Run lots of practice laps in it to break it in and then do an oil change you'll need every single HP to do this. Mine's up to 518HP.

Here's my settings:
-Downforce: 20 (Buy the wing, gotta have it)
-Transmission: 240 km/h (149mph I think?)
-Leave the differential on the standard one, the adjustable on creates too much understeer.
-Ride Height: -25 -15
-Spring Rate: 17 19
-Dampers (Extension): 10 10
-Dampers (Compression): 8 8
-Anti-roll Bars: 7 7
-Camber Angle: 5.0 0.5
-Toe Angle: -1.00 0.00
-Brake Balance: 7 6
-Tires: Racing Soft

The most important thing with this race is to keep retrying until none of the Chaparral 2Js starts higher than 5th. It's important that they get stuck in traffic most of the race so that you can build up enough of a lead that when they break free of the pack you'll only have to race them for one lap.

Thank you , i will try this today .

Fully tuned countach can do it if you're good enough.

Monaco is hard though. Especially if the Chapparal 2J is in the race. You really need to just muscle your way to the front in the first corner and then you should be alright.

I used a Jaguar E-Type in the used car dealerships. I'm not sure how often they appear though. (Whoops, was thinking of another championship)

i failed with a fully tuned countach(waste of money) i then bought a old Z28 and race moded it for around 220,000CR tuned it a bit changed tires and i flogged em all.

Hint: if when you start a race and the 2J or Toyota 8 starts in front of you quit an join again to see if it starts behind you. Helps alot.
