[GUIDE] Historic Racing Car Cup

I was struggling with this race for a while & stumbled across this thread/site via Google search on how to beat it.

I used the Lambo & the only difference I made from OP is that I bumped the gearing up 1 notch. It took a few attempts (A.I. thought it was bumper car racing) but I found the best way to get ahead & stay ahead was to use a slightly drift style approach, especially in Deep Forest. I used medium race tyres & in both races they were just about gone at the start of the 2nd lap but seeing as the Lambo had understeer issues I found it easier to use the back end to turn.

This was easily the best, most exciting race for me so far in GT5, white knuckle, edge of your seat racing.

I won this one quite easily on Cote d'Azur with the shelby cobra 427 fully tuned,I had soft racing tires and maxed tuned my car with both weight and hp.

I set the car to max out on 270KM/H on both tracks, the Cote d'Azur I lead after the first turn and from there drive very safely, keep ur foot/finger off the gaspedal when ur car is near turns and straighten up the car before braking, then take the turns smoothly.
From here you will do fine, its just a matter of not crashing;)

On Deep Forest I also lead after the first turn, the only issue here is not getting ur car in the air, then it will be impossible to handle afterwards,so every dump and whatnot just keep a steady gas,I could post a vid on youtube for this one if intrested, its actually quite easy even with mistakes(wich I made a few of this race) =)

So theres no point in wasting money on a supercar for this one,but the rally car you win afterwards is just lol-_-

Anyways good luck to all of you=)

Been wondering what car is best for this event, because the cars I have now can't cope.

Hi, I'm wondering what car you people use to complete this event?
The cars I currently have can't cope, mainly on speed but also on cornering.
Ferrari 512BB (550HP), Buick Special (800HP) are my 2 'best' cars for this event I currently have in my garage.

I think a lot of people have used the countach or the toyota 7. Both are rewards for winning races. You could also pony up cash for the 2J or something, but they're pricey.

I used a fully tuned '69 Camaro Z28 RM. It was a real freakin' close race (won by something like .234 on one of the races), but it's doable.

FYI, here's a workable setup for the Monaco Historic race, using the Toyota 7 Race Car '70:

Ride Height------------ -20 / -20
Springs-----------------11.5 (F) / 12.5.0 (R)
Dampers (Ext'n)-------6 (F) / 5 (R)
Dampers (comp)-------5 (F) / 4 (R)
Anti-Roll Bars-----------6 / 5
Camber------------------1.5 (F) / 1.5 (R)
Toe-----------------------0.00 (F) / + 0.40 (R)
LSD----------------------9-36-18
Brakes-------------------5/4
Downforce---------------Maximum F & R
Speed/gear..................debatable, but 155 to 162 will work.

The key to winning this event is getting a grid with the Chaparral 2J lined up to start in the 3rd row. This may be around the 8th time you try the race. He will get tangled up in a wreck at least once and get turned around. After that, it's an easy win.

Quick question, where do I get the old Countach from? Used car lot?
Because in the B-spec pro event Lamborghini Exclusive you get the Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary '88 (S).

As annoying as this might be I have yet to see a post that includes every setting.

So on the lambo can someone please post

I don't think the setup is very important. The only changes I made from default was to set the wing downforce to max and add 2 points of brake balance to the front. However, lots of other people have done it with lots of other settings. Don't expect a magic setup to make the race easy.

I think what's important are the 2 points I made in my post on the previous page. Get to first by the first corner and leave some gas on when you are braking to balance the car.

Oh and TC & ABS on 1. No other aids.

Well done on doing it. :)

I got my Countach from the A Spec Lamborghini Exclusive: Lamborghini Countach LP400 ‘74 (S)

Tune your tranny to about 209+/- mph max, with quick acceleration you should be able to late brake and overtake on the 1st corner of both courses. Just stay in 1st and make no mistakes. I won with Ferrari P4 ~620(670)hp more or less can't recall. Whatever it maxes out to after oil change and stage 3 turbo. Added soft racing tires too. Tuned the gearbox to give me about 210 mph max. Zooooom off the grid !

@RWB1213

The way I completed that series was to use a race modified Corvette ZR1 to win the Like the Wind series in A-Spec Extreme. The corvette will end up around 890 HP and will breeze through the race at Daytona and with some good driving and tuning will just be able to win at Indy. You can then use the prize car (Toyota Minolta Race Car) to breeze through the All Stars event.

The Vett can be bought from the Chevy dealer and will end up costing a fair chunk of change, somewhere in the area of 700,000 credits, but come on, its an awesome car to have laying around!

For reference, here is the tuning I used for the indy event (isn't mine, found on another forum)

Top speed set to 400kph (approx 250mph)

Front camber to 2.5
Rear camber to 2.0

Spring rates Front/Back to 19.0

Front down force maxed
Rear down force 5 clicks from the max

All driving Aids OFF, except ABS at 1.

Racing Soft Tires are a must, don't try and cheap out with hards like I did, the car just wont turn well enough to keep enough speed.

Hope it helps.

Man! Thank you so much! I raced this Like the Wind event for 4 days and I couldn't make it. But with this set-up, it was pretty easy! Thank you :)

Camaro '69 RM did the job for me, it was a nice challenge blocking the 2J from overtaking :) I set the top speed to 180 and it did the trick

I used a fully tuned Z28 RM on Deep Forest and a fully tuned LP400 Countach at Monaco. Set the speed at about 162 MPH for both cars, and maximum downforce. The Z28 understeers where as the Countach oversteers easily.

For Deep forest, basically make sure that there is no Toyota 7 or 2J race car near the front, if there is, restart until they are not there. By the first turn, you should be either 3 or fourth. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO RACE DIRTY. By the time you hit the first tunnel, you should be basically half a second behind first, or even better first. If your not first by the uphill straight away/tunnel, then restart, you will not catch the car ahead with the cars I used.

Once first, basically try to block the AI's line on corners, and on the finish line straight, take the inside line for the first turn. The fast cars might over take you, but you can regain your position by using the inside line at the left turn.

On Monoco, basically get ahead by the first turn at the end of the tunnel, and just hold on for dear life. Try to block their passes, and you will make them go head first into the wall. Very satisfying.

I finally beat this with the Toyota 7 and it wasn't easy. The key is getting to first after the first or second turn for each track.

just did it last night on b spec after 6 tries. props to reece's comments i think on page 5 or something. but just wanted to add some additional notes:

1. if the leading car is the 2J '67 (the one with the fan) after the first turn, quit and try again. you need to have the ferrari or ford or any car ahead of the 2J for you to have a good change. the race i won it with i had 1. ford, 2. ferrari 3. 2J. it held the 2J up for me to get to abotu 4th on the 2nd lap, then the 2J took the lead, but it slowed it down
2. 2J car is your enemy.
3. dont give up if your still 2nd on the last lap or something like that, as long as your close enough to the leader, it puts pressure on them and its highly likely that they will hit a barrier. in which case, go go go! overtake!
4. you should be 1st or 2nd by lap 5 or 6. or even 7! if your in 5th or 6th place by then, re try. but also see point 3.
5. you only need to slow down in two areas of the map, everywhere else PACE UP!
6. the two points where you MIGHT need to slow down. A. after you exit the tunnel, if it looks like your b spec driver is going on the inside to do an overtake, pace down. you need to do this before he goes for the overtake move. you will notice if he will overtake by how close you are to the car in front. B. in the last turn before the finish, you may need to slow down again, depends if there are cars around you.
7. I used a hot headed driver
8. even if you smack into a wall but overall you are in a good position, keep going, high chance others will smack into a wall as well.

IT IS POSSIBLE!

Here's my gameplay video with Countach LP400, hope it would help out:

I had problems with this at first, but setting the downforce from 15 to 20 made all the difference in the world on the handling of this car. Won both races easily after that. Thanks for the guide.

No problem, glad it worked for you, just wish I could find the post I got the idea and tuning setup from as they deserve the credit.

For those who have still Problems with the B-Spec Monaco race, this is how I did it:

B-Spec Bob Level 25 (very cool attitude)
Toyota 7 race car with all tuning parts
Racing medium tyres
155mph or 250km/h
Front and rear wing on max
front brakes increased by two
rear camber to 0.0
ride heigt front and rear -10

You have to speed him up from the start on and during the whole race. Slow him down at the end of the tunnel and at the last corner. If the attitude arrow is at the far right, tell him to overtake.
That's it.

is that stock? or does it have parts installed on it?

I used a fully tuned Shelby Cobra. This thing is INSANE, I had pain in the arms after driving it for 5 lalps. For 3! laps the Toyota 7 was right behind me, much pressure but it was so rewarding winning this event.

Care to share your tuning for the Shelby Cobra? It is a beast and fast but hard to control. I love that car!
