This head tracking is gonna make alot of money round here. People losing their heads left, right and centre.

What was controlling the throttle and brake?

Yes I am curious about that as well. I just don't understand... Maybe you twist your wrists! I wouldn't put it past them. I guess it looks at your feet.

I watched it again and I think the speed is set and you just have to move the car, because the race they were racing was what they called a mode. Just like the other racing game, in order to pass cars you had to drift and hit the boost... That will be lame if you can't control the throttle in a racing game.

Natal Rumors are priced for 150-180 dollars US.

PS3 EYE toy is CHEAP!
And yeah GT5 and Head Tracking is confirmed since I think Last year.

Car drives and brakes by itself. Its just lame, your hands will hurt after few minutes of having them in the air. Also that Walk around the car.. you can use a controller for that, and sit contemptibly on the couch, because all they did is move hands, walk few feet back and forth, also he press magic button in the air to play a VIDEO. so its very lame interaction. Who has enough room space for that?

Only good thing is HEAD tracking but for 150 price tag? No thanks, you can buy a decent Logitech wheel for that.

You have to gyrate your hips and jerk them back and forth to control the gas, brake and clutch. Then you have to grab your crotch to use the hand brake (Michael Jackson style). :sly:

HAHA Before I seen a lot of Wii motes flying into TVs.
With Kinect you will see a lot of heads flying straight though them!

The eye toy can't do most of the things that kinect does, and it doesn't use the expensive tech that kinect uses. So it better be cheaper. And the car does't drive and brake by itself. You will probably have to use your feet or backup/move forward like what they did in the burnout demostration.

Did you see how limited head tracking was? Didn't look like you were able to shoulder check with it.

I am really sorry if I wiil offend anyone, but this is just PLAIN STUPID for actual driving in any possible way imaginable.

Atractive for 10 minutes, but playing driving games that way is even worse than idea of driving with motion sensor peripherals as seen in Wii games or Motorstorm on PS3.

Useless waste of respources and most stupid idea of incorporating techology into particular genre EVER.

Indeed, something I know PD will never do. Turn 10 are also demoing the same thing (hands free driving). I am a little curious how they brake, or do they only use autobrake?

That seemed quite cool in a way, the interaction with the car and the facts and notes suggests they put a bit of work into it (although i couldn't really read any of it....), but id probably only use it the once and then start racing properly. And it didn't really add anything to the game in a genuine fun sense, especially not for something that purports to be a driving simulator. So in conclusion motion controls plus driving simulator = fail.

The reason for that is because the Forza Cockpits are not 360 degree, Its so lame. GT5 you get full 360 degree.

I totally agree on that.
In any event I am curious to see how PS move will interact with GT5.
As far as I understood it was not a PD decision to embed this capability in the game.

Off topic but, that car model was GT5 worthy! Has Forza genuinly caught up with PD in terms of realism with this new title? It could just be a tech demo for E3 of course, but its a little scary none the less.

GT5 has taken so long to come out, no wonder it has been caught up, and in some areas, overtaken.

Can you imagine how tired your arms would get just after playing a 10 lap race with nothing to support your arms... Imagine doing a 24hr race. I'm glad my G27 has got my back. :)

A little bit of head tracking

Looks 'pewrty' neat to me. :)

That's what TrackIR style head tracking basically does... remaps the "look" from the controller to your head.

It looks neat but I have found it to be anything but intuitive and easy to use.

Yep, but is what is seen in that video actually an example of headtracking or is it someone's idea of what headtracking might look like made by using the controller?

Hard to tell and ultimately, wouldn't they be the same anyway?

I am guessing from the slight wobble around center that it's actually head tracking as letting the stick snap back to center I would think woudln't make that happen, but from what I can see of the rest of the video (it won't load very fast for me) there isn't anymore view changing so either they stopped playing with the stick or they stopped moving their head.

The view changes/turns slightly on a straight, nothing noticable on any corners. I'd guess it's not headtracking.

You should also remember from our previous discussion that IMO they won't necessarily be the same thing.

I did notice a bit of what looked like view changing on the straights which could be a result of a slight head turn as the driver looked into the apex, however it could be any number of other things I suppose.

I haven't forgotten the other possibilities of head tracking... I honestly don't see how I would like any of them (although the faux 3d thing a la the wii head tracking I think would be the most enjoyable).

After seeing some Track IR stuff some time ago and seeing more on the Internet, including Sony's and MS's technologies, I'm not really convinced. The idea is great but the real deal is somewhat clumsy from real-world point of view. At least for now. Not that it would work when one got finally used to it but the ratio between your head and action is a bit steep.

In real world the driver seeks the apex using cars' windows and turning his head, or just eyes if possible. When using head and/or face motion detection it requires user to keep the eyes on the road but still move head to make the screen act like three front area windows of a car. In-My-Opinion the better way to execute this kind of view expansion is multiple displays or curved screen.

This kind of motion technology has its uses, no doubt, but I reckon them being something similar to military targeting systems than managing the cockpit view in car or flight games. For conclusion - these are merely my own opinions and views of the talked topic. I haven't had a chance to test these systems myself so I'm doing everything based on "seeing is believing". Just don't lynch me because of it, please. :)

By the way, I'm new here so hello to everyone! I've been following this site for some time already but got myself registered now - and finally.
