Well, I wouldn't say that. The FD Civic (Si Sedan, Type R Sedan,) is still heavily involved in production-based touring car racing, as is the TSX. After that...eh. There's IRL engines, SuperGT NSXs, and Acura LMP2s. and Motorcycles.

Idiots. Why don’t they produce a one-off Type R (that every fan has wanted since day dot) and do a limited edition run of 1,000? Not just aesthetic enhancements as displayed above but hosting a range of performance enhancements to please. They would sell like hot cakes and would seal off the perfect ending to an amazing car.

To be honest, the entire S2000 run essentially was a Type R.

No, not really. I didn't see any S2000s with Recaros, stripped out sound deadening, no AC or audio, and stiffer everything from Honda directly.

Honda has sold many Type R models with none of those things but the stiffening bits.
Regardless, I meant that the S2000s design philosophy in all models wasn't particularly different from that of Honda's various Type Rs.
Besides:

My Honda dealer let one of those go for $28k. :(

The S2000 engine is basically a Type R. It makes more power per liter than most Type-Rs, actually... at least till the Mugen RR.

And not to mention the fact that it's stiff, noisy... hardcore...

Wait... now I really want one. :D

Am I the only one seeing an Aston Martin Vanquish in this picture?

Yes, unless you are talking about the general category both cars would be placed in, then I could maybe see it.

In Case You Didn't Know...

The S2000 is dead after the MY2009, and its going out with one last hurrah. Europe will be getting whats being dubbed as the "Ultimate Edition" S2000.

Makes me hopeful that we'll get something in the US, but overall, it makes me want to race out and get a used S2000 that much more.

Sad! Oh well, I can still enjoy mine. :D

Definitely would be nice.

Give the car a few years, and perhaps Mugen will honor it on its anniversary.

Would be sweet.

That's what she said! (That reminds me, I am two weeks behind on The Office.)

If I knew how to drive a stick, had 40 grand, and lived in a better neighborhood... I would have one... but a US based one with a few options so I could even enjoy it during this time of year in Indiana! :sly::dopey::) I'll take mine in Laguna Blue Pearl. ;):D:tup: --- Randy

The S2000 was similar to Mazda's Miata in that it never followed the trends of the rest of the brand. Yes, I know the Miata got a Mazdaspeed version, but that's not the point. The S2000 was meant as a top-notch sports car from the beginning. It basically was a "Type R" without the branding. It didn't need to be a Type R--it was an S2000. Just like the Miata gets along just find with roudlet styling not shared with the rest of Mazda--because it's a Miata.

The NSX wasn't done enough from the outset. At the time sports cars of its caliber were gaining technology and performance very rapidly, and it started to get left behind. Thus, the NSX Type R. Nobody talks about NSX vs. Ferrari anymore. It's always the Type R. It's what the NSX should have been from the beginning. The NSX was just as "pedestrian" in the wide scheme of things as the Integra and Civic.

Four Years After It's Death, It's Back?

Linky-doo from Autoblog

So, it's a updated fascia and interior based on what (so far) appears to be the same car that left us four years ago. This "Modulo" treatment appears to be going on several different models, but this S2000 is an "exhibition model."

Testing the waters for a new S2000? Or actually bringing out a new model? Difficult to say. Interesting to watch.

My only assumption is that Honda wants to see what people think of a slightly more luxurious roadster. And it's a damn shame that they want to put the car upmarket.

Make it cheap. Hell, make it the same damn thing that they stopped selling four years ago. Just give us a damn GT-86/FR-S/BRZ competitor.

It would probably serve Honda well by pushing the S2000 into Acura to compete with the BMW Z4.

And good edit R1600.👍

That looks... painful... like the car had just swallowed a razorblade.

Have no idea where they're going with this. Should've given it new sheetmetal, at least.

That's certainly an odd visual addition. Not the most successful bit of chrome trim ever...

I've read in recent interviews however that Honda is interested in getting back on the wagon as far as performance stuff goes. Like Toyota, their head of product planning has had a bit of an epiphany and realised "damn... our stuff is a bit boring...".

To Honda's credit, it's said on two separate occasions that it wouldn't build another Type R Civic, before giving the world the FN2 and FD2, and soon in Europe one based on the current Euro Civic. There must be someone at Honda going "Err, hang on a minute, people actually like the Civic Type R..."

Incidentally, I'd totally rock that Mobilo N-One or Step Wgn. Wish they sold the N-One in the UK. After the Daihatsu Copen disappeared we were left without any Kei cars (Mitsubishi i-MiEV aside).

N Box please! Of course, Honda could always apply the N One styling to this:

Honda-Brio-Prototype-2.jpg

Which slots in around Spark size, and should do well outside Japan.

The colour and profile lines on the side certainly makes it look similar, though the Brio is quite a bit smaller. VW Up/Toyota Aygo sized, if that makes any sense.

I wish they sold it in the UK, actually. Would be a good addition to the market.

Looks like a s2000 mugen tune more than a new car. Besides that's not consistent with the way the new honda cars are stylized and will be in the future (nsx).

For those 2 reasons it's either a hoax or not a re-release, and obviously not the s3000. We'll know in 2 weeks.

edit: actually it's retarded to re-release the s2000 considering the direct competition moved a long way in that price range. It was a marvelous car at its release date, but now it really is dated performance and quality wise.

Interesting idea for a hoax, since the news and pictures came straight from Honda and all. Wonder what they would have to gain from that.

Unless they re-engineer the car to cost less to build so it can be a BreezFrees competitor (using parts from the new Civic could help with that). And/or if it's just a stopgap model to build interest while they ramp up development on a proper replacement.
