Wow, mclaren man, real nice work. Would you say that it sounds much different? Notibly? Coz ive tried a few things on my intake and i can hardly tell the difference between them. Looks mad tho!

As for my boring weekend, i just tinted muh tail lights, thanks to EF4_anthony from the honda-tech forums who gave me a nice step by step way of doing it. When i get muh camera back ill put up some pics. I dont know whether im going to keep the 88-89 tails with the 88-89 centre garnish, or swap the centre garnish in and tint that as well.

Congrats on the buy for that little civ' should be hella fun.

That link is to a pic of one.( im pretty sure thats the one) Muh nan had one that model it was a 79 wagon tho. She sold it in '01 because she wanted a new car. Nothing ever went rong with it :D She now drives an EK sedan. Over 6 years shes put 30,000kms on it lol

^^^well when you are just sitting still and revving the car you can hear it suck up air when you first jab the throttle, but when you are actaully driving it from 1000rpm-25000rpm sounds the same, but when you hit about 3000 it starts to kick in, it is noticeably deeper. Then when you push it past 5500rpm (where the secondary intake runners open) it just goes mad with the deep sounds disappearing and turning into a higher pitched mechanical scream all the way to the 7100 limit.

Does that explain it a little

Thats the best narrative description of an engines sound i've ever heard!

Looks pretty good though man, glad it worked out for ya. 👍
What size of PVC piping did you use, and are ya sure it won't melt or warp from the heat of the engine?

I used 90mm (3 inch) piping and the guy who originally designed this tested it for temperature by leaving it idling in direct sunlight on a 38 degree Celcius day with the air conditioner on for an hour! He said it has held up fine for the year that he has had it on their afterwards. It is actually a pretty good resistant to heat, I mean I held it over a 700 degree C flame for over 2 minutes and it was only just starting to soften up so I could mould it!

On a side note: One of my english assignments at school is kinda a free choice things, so I am doing a road test of my car then writing an article for a car magazine for it! How cool is that for an assignment?

Mclaren_Man: Nice custom intake. I think your gonna have to make an How-to-guide so I can make one for the VX :)
You should consider putting a K&N Filter on the end of the intake to get some power outta it.:dopey:

I have posted the VX on cardomain:dopey:

If you look at the pictures the piping goes from the front of the engine bay into the original airbox which has the whole pod filter assembly inside it. So if I put another pod on the end of it that would over filter it lose performance.

How to guide: get some PVC piping, heat up the end of it over a flame (stove) so you can mold it to the shape required for your intake, then just use PVC piping elbows to get it to your desired position. Its really that simple oh and make sure you spray a few layers of matt black paint on it 👍

edit: nice pics of your car aswell by the way :sly:

I think he's talking about removing the factory airbox first.

Side note: what kind of performance could one expect from an automatic 03 Civic EX? is it a leadsled or do they have some potential?

You should post up when your done with that english thing! it'd be an enjoying read! Just in my opinion Hondas and automatics arent a real great mix. Seeing that hondas make most of their power up high and auto's tend to wanna shift early.... All cars have potential tho. And Civic's are always fun lightweights to throw around an S bend :D

4 cylinder cars and automatic gearboxes dont mix in my opinion, even through the twisty bits I'd prefer to have a manual so that when you accelerate out of a slow corner you are in the correct gear all ready. Having said that, manual cars are a pain in the a** in city driving, when I do a cruise through the city on some weekends, my left leg gets a fair workout. So basically it depends on what you are using it for...

Heh I just worry about cops when cruising in the city on weekends (especially at night), clutch is least of my worrys.

Lol. Well ever since i got the car, my clutch has been fried. So stop starting is not one of muh specialities. The car does some wierd shudder thing.. its terrible.. but im kinda hoping it will last until i can swap muh engine next year lol :/

The thing that really kills a 4 cylender automatic is the overdrive. They always wanna kick in at 60 km which really bogs down the engine for most normal driving, and I find in most cars, you really have to give it gas to get it to kick back out. Sunfires/Cavaliers are notorious for it actually, which is why they make easy targets for anyone with a manual on a cruise. :D

LeadSlead#2 - Everything has potential, its just a matter of how far your willing to go. In your case though, it won't be that bad for you since your Civic EX is our (Canadian) Civic Si, which means you do have a pretty strong tuner parts backing for your car. Do some searching on the net to see what people have done, or visit parts places like www.andysautosport.com to see what kind of parts are available for your ride and just go from there. 👍

Mclaren_Man - Continue driving manual for a couple more years and that leg thing will dissappear. I've been driving stick for almost 10-12 years now on everything from my cars, lift truck and shunt truck (5th wheel) at work, sisters car, dads truck to my dads tractors and I can honestly say that my left leg is ripped! The only thing I hate is long drives where it just sits there and wants to cramp up on me from its lack of use.

VIPERGTSR01 - I hear that! I've been driving with 3 strikes from my insurance company for almost a year now with another year to go. One more ticket and my insurance triples, hows that for scary? :scared:

Boz Mon - Just watched those today actually, still can't remember whether or not I saw them as a kid growing up. Absoluteprelude.com is a great site with a huge technical backing for engine building and performance, unfortuantly I still didn't find the lip for sale on there. :indiff:

I would reccomend going to ap.com, registering and posting an intro of yourself in the intro forum with a pic of the lip you are looking for. They will most likey be able to help. Thats all I got

vexd - EG's are one of my favorite Honda's, and probably one of my second favorite hatchbacks of all time. Nice looking car, very clean especially with the black rim/chrome lip combination on the car. 140 HP isn't bad for such a small car, whats your list of mods, and future plans for the car?

God im not in here very often am i.....

sorry about that, but the thread moves so fast, and i dont get online as often as i used to.

Mods are:

K+N Filter kit to help her breathe, full cold air kit attached.

Full stainless custom built exhaust 4.5 inch straight through.

No CAT. ( i do like pussies, but that one was stealing all my glory, AHEM dont they all....)

No weight... i removed the rear seats since the pics were taken, and never travel with passengers.

Lowered 35mm all round on some Pi suspension, which i regret buying and will replace with TEIN asap.

17" Wolfrace Street Octanes, two of which are kerbed already.

Upgraded Discs (EBC) on the front, using Green Stuff EBC pads.

Future mods include, new crystal indicators for the front, and clear rear indicator clusters/LED lenses on the rear.
Strut Braces front and rear, and finally...

I want to get the Nurburgring sticker attached at the back somewhere, as i debadged the car (see avatar, but look very, very closely!) and its a bit plain at the moment.

I like her at the speed she is, and i still suprise a lot of people off the lights.

Im hopefully going to get mixture of B18 block and B16b head thrown in there over the next year or so, if the car survives the ring....

127,000 miles on it so far, and counting.....

:irked:👍

Vexd - Sounds good so far, and don't worry, I think everybody curbs their rims atleast once in their life time, some even in the first week....no comment...

4.5" exhaust though? You didn't notice a huge drop in torque or anything after that was installed? How'd you attach it too and run it from your header? I'd love to remove my CAT, but until they remove the Drive Clean tests, i'm stuck with my high flow. :indiff:

If your looking of throwing a B18 block in anyways, why not just look for a B18C1 engine from the Acura Integra Type R? It comes stock with 195 HP and a 9100 RPM redline, which in my opinion is far better then building a B17 (B16 with B18 head) as its less work, and more importantly, less money. 👍

RocketPantsBob - Welcome to GTP and the Honda thread!

Nice ride, I have a black '93 VTEC, what year and model is yours, and whats your mods list?

Would you like to become part of the honda fan club? Just let me know and ill stick your name on the front page. Its very hot tho =D
