Guys, I don't know what the deal is, but I never got any action in the Sol. Just the fact that it's a Honda should net me something, but it never did even though I have the loud exhaust (okay, it's a hole, but the resonator does a good job of making good sound.)

Well, that changed abruptly since yesterday. Last night a previous-gen Jetta 1.8T with an exhaust and intake (stock 180 crank hp and about the same torque) decided to get feisty. I raced him and won, though by a smidge at ~70mph. Damn guy wouldn't give up though, so I finally did.

About 20 minutes ago I accidentally excited a mildly turbod 240SX while revving at another nearby Del (he didn't hear me anyway). I saw the 240 and said "Damn it!" An dwhat do you know, the next light turned red. Bitch. I acted like I wasn't paying attention, but he revved a little and I was pissed because now I had to go through with it. I did, and his turbo torque killed me at the launch, so I ended up back at his rear fender. I stopped faling back there when the VTEC cracked in 1st, then I hung right next to him up to about 80mph (in a 40!). I'm proud of that. If we would have started while I was at 5000 or so I would have been in fron tof him the whole time--especially If I was in first.

I know the Sol isn't "fast" at all, but it's nice to know that I can hang with quite a few cars out there.

so you kept up with a boosted 240 in a stock del sol?

Or do you have some modifications done that we dont know about?:)

Modifications? The exhaust flange in front of my muffler doesn't fit right, so it sounds like I have a nifty exhaust. That's about it. Oh yeah, and I thought it'd be cool to mess with my intake resonator and I ended up taking it out, like all the cool kids. :sly:

Anyway, I just realized something about that Jetta driver earlier. He learned quick. Obviously he knows what VTEC is, because that guy (after about 4 races, which got a little tiring) decided to start from 40 mph. I was in second, thinking I'd get the ol' "VTEC Jump" on him, but no, he was in third, and I was at 6500 rpm. I hit the gas and, incidentally, the rev limiter, as he turbo-torqued my ass and ran away without having to shift. Gahhh! Oh well, I beat him three other times. :D

EDIT: I don't remember If I posted this, but in September I whooped up on a Mini Cooper S. Now that was surprising!

Bah, call me back when you hang with supercharged LS1 Camaros to 160mph... or smoke 360 Modenas.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. :D

hahahahahaha

sooo what do you drive?:)

Used to drive, rather. Turbo ls-vtec CRX, Precision SC61, 9.0:1 JE slugs, custom cams, 780cc injectors, ITR tranny, etc... 480whp or so at 22psi. Best 1/4 was 11.80 117mph, roughly what, 3 years ago. Never really took it to the streets, but I did manage to blow the doors off a 360 Modena on the highway from 70mph, speedo was buried at 220kph in no time, no idea how fast that actually ended up being.

A year passed, I realised I just couldn't go boostless, so I went and got myself a 93 EG hatch... GT40 H22A4, HAsport mounts, fully built, completely bulletproof bottom end, made 592whp at 30psi. It was quite simply, a monster, stripped and caged and all. On 24.5" slicks I wouldn't get any traction until 3rd gear. I managed a best of 10.92@132mph at the 'strip, then promptly managed to wreck it, at the strip, a few weeks after that, when a shock (or an axle, to this day I'm still unsure, but since both were broken after the accident, it's hard to tell) broke while shifting into 4th at around 110mph.

But that thing was so scary, it pretty much put me off driving high power small cars forever. I lost most of the pics I had when I formatted my hd, though... :(

Wowza! Sounds like you have a ton of go-fast experience and quite a few car stories to tell your kids. I've never been a big fan of going fast in general, especially in a little FWD car, but I sure respect the power and speed those little things can put out. It's ridiculous and scary. I'm more of a corner guy, but obviously it's tough to find a person to race a windy road with and really dangerous when you do.

we dont have any hills here so its pretty much drag racing if you race on the street. There are a few race tracks around here the closest being about 90 miles north its called autobahn country club I've never been there but I'd like to go someday.

That place is like 10 minutes away from my house, one of my dads good friends was one of the main guys who started it. I kinda want to get in there with either my Prelude or my go-kart some day.

PunkRock aka. Fred - Sounds like quite the collection you've had. Did you do all the work yourself? How did your Honda's keep up against the east coast weather? (aka Salt land  )

Dude hook me up I need to drive a road course so bad. I'll love you forever.

I do most of my work myself, and I have friends who know how to weld and have various automotive skills, so the labor part usually comes in cheap. 5 years ago I pieced together a ghetto-ish turbo kit for my first ITR, which never ran right, fried pistons here and there, and eventually ended up getting stolen. I've had what, 13-14 cars so far, and out of those, I'd say only 2 or 3 never saw a wrench.

Weather? Bah, if you use them only during summertime, they'll be fine. My EG was starting to bubble in the rear quarters, but I had to redo the CRX before having it painted, it was starting to rust around the windshield, on the roof, amongst other things. That, and it was teal... and we all know teal sucks. :P

taurine :(

That just makes me leh-sad. Although it doesnt look that bad. Still, worse then nothing. But it could have been much worse. Did you have a nice conversation with the driver who cut you off?

if its just body work its no big deal. I remember when I wrecked my EF how I felt when I got out hoping that the suspension wasnt that bad and having my heart sink when I saw the terrible angle the wheel was sitting at.

I wasn't cut off, it was an EA CRX with a rollcage, semislicks etc. He shot to the inside line when I hit the brakes and I thought he was going to try and go down the inside so I tried to give him a bit of room and just got crossed up.

About 2m to the right was a concrete barrier.

I was at a trackday and was put off by a guy behind me, ran wide, went off the track and collected a tyre bundle at 100km/h.

Ahhh that sucks, Andrew you should know the track is too dangerous, get back to racing on the streets :P

(BTW this is a Joke for anyone that wants to take it serious)

Oh man, sucks to hear that aye. :( Poor CRX, is it just cosmetic damage?

I assume this was at Puke right, which corner did this happen at?

-Fred- - I had no idea there was an import scene on the east coast until I talked to you. Seriously.

Taurine - OUCH! Atleast you're still around to tell the story and not bandaged up in a hospital bed some where using blinks to talk to people and peeing through a tube. Glad to see the fog lights were saved though as those look to be the hardest thing to replace in that area. 👍
