It's getting to the point where war might be the lesser of two evils. God help us.

Sounded like something out of the Da Vinci Code until it was confirmed as a terrorist attack.

Sad times indeed, are things like this going to happen like 3 times a week now!

The frog is slowly coming to a boil. How many attacks are too many? Or should we all just "get over it", accept the new normal, and justify it all as the price of progress?

Sky Correspondent Mark White said one of the attackers was known to French police and was jailed for attempting to travel to Syria to join IS.

He was recently released back into the community tagged with an electronic monitor and was on a terror watch list.
A guy actively tries to become a murdering thug terrorist and you think putting a monitor on his ankle and releasing him back into the community is a good idea? What was the monitor supposed to do? "All units, there's a jihadi attack in the Church and people are dying....oh wait...it's our guy...well at least we know who it is..." Unbelievable.

Oh shucks, I was hoping it might have something to do with the Holy Grail and the Templars.

With King Arthurs sword up for grabs? Don't even joke :D

Seriously though, feel bad for yet another July event like this. What a month this is, I think @Carl the Sloth echoed it best.

I'm starting to expect daily, as far as mass attacks go. Now them being of terrorist origin...I predict twice a week. (satire on the last bit). Let's hope August is better.

Can't go 24 hours without hearing of another terrorist/extremist attack these days, seriously what the **** is going on in the world.

Obviously attacks on people shouldn't be condoned or accepted, but the coverage on these kinds of events may be skewing things a little bit. Just for perspective, the daily murder rate in the US is about 44 per day.

I tried looking for French statistics, but wasn't getting anything specific.

A war between who?

That's the worrying thing. There's nothing concrete to defeat, no obvious enemy. However, it feels like something drastic has to happen regardless. This sort of atrocity simply can't become the new normal for western Europe.

Indeed.

Whether it's a war of weapons or of policies though, the question remains, which group of innocent people do you* expect to pay the price?

Rhetorical use of the word 'You' ;)

So far it's quite clear who is paying the price ...

I know lots of Muslims who are complete opposite of ISIL, and I still don't think Islam encourages such stupid groups. Islam isn't lgbt friendly but far from ISIL and it's propaganda.

2010 795
2011 866
2012 784
2013 784
2014 803
2015 932
Terrorism accounts for 15.8% of all homicides in France in 2015.
But the base number is low.
Terrorism accounted for only 0.027% of all deaths (based on 2014 data).
The country counted around 87 suicides for every terrorism death.

But since our democracies are weakened by their over emotional reactions, terrorists see no reasons to stop since they feed themselves with "our" tears.

The media has a way of twisting facts in some minds eh?

It is a shame to see murder being sensationalized to me.

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2016/0...plans-before-normandy-attack-report-says.html

The ISIS terrorist who slit a priest’s throat and used a nun as a human shield during an attack in France on Tuesday bragged about his intended assault to an audience of up to 200 people on an encrypted communications app nearly a week before the spree. The audio files recorded by Adel Kermiche for a private group on the Telegram app were obtained by L’Express magazine and verified for the publication by a source close to the investigation. Kermiche, 19, says he will “enter a church, take a knife and make a carnage,” according to a translation of one chilling message.

Up to 200 people knew this attack was coming and no one lifted a finger.

Note: The L'Express link above takes you to to the original article in French for those who melt in a puddle of tears at the thought of hitting a link to Fox News.

Gee, I wonder where a terrorist could find an audience of two hundred people to brag to and be confident that none of them would try to stop him. Could it be possible that he was broadcasting to two hundred sympathisers? But you know, misrepresent it if it suits your purposes. You obviously want "proof" that this attack was not only avoidable, but that the police had ample opportunity to intervene. There's a reason why they use encrypted apps - to try and avoid scrutiny from security services in the first place.
