On the topic of masking tape, I've been reading up on modelling websites and a way to try prevent bleeding is to apply the masking tape and before applying the color apply a thin coat of clear on the edges. The clear coat should stop any paint you apply later on from bleeding.
Though I'm not too sure how this would work with spray cans since you get a thicker coat there, but with detailing jobs that you can do with enamels it should work great.

The use of clear is a neat idea, though at that point, you'll probably build up a thick layer which you can physically feel, and I'm not sure how good that may be. Thanks for sharing though. I'll have to try it out eventually!

Love the work on that M3 spoiler, doubletake, cool Golfs too. 👍

Cano, wheel spacers FTW! :), great work on the Charger bud, looking forward to the funny car too. 👍 And that scratch build stuff is crazy!, i plan on doing a few scratch builds myself (at some point), though i think getting the symmetry spot on, will be a mighty tough challenge indeed.

Really looking forward to the new Lamley comp, jtl46 👍, i have some police car idea's floating around, but obviously can't reveal them, but i do feel that those without access to create custom decals, will be at a distinct disadvantage, (not a huge issue though.. unmarked police cars FTW.).

PS. Cool hint/tip about the clear coat thing, Apok, i'm going to have to give that a try. 👍

Cano

I'm...... totally speechless right now that no words can describe.....👍 Except.....

Sweet VTEC!!! This guy is seriously talented! I mean, he's completely redesigned a whole new model from scratch, no shell casting nor anything else...

Major props and respect to the dude.

Hey, someone get this guy a job at Mattel. ;)

Lamley Contest 2: Police Carsp

This time you will definitely need decals.. The flood of text is absolutely crucial to scoring attention. Find a way to work in white text on a non-white colour base if you want to impress the judges.

The 4 categories to work in will even out the playing ground. The biggest trouble to be found is finding siren lights. If you want to score huge, install working LEDs. If you couple that up with at least a decent exterior finish, that should probably land you top 10 in subcategories A.

As always I'll be going the fantasy route since it's so much more fun.

Does the guy sell his batch runs or something?

Metal dust. Lots of metal dust.

That's is cool Jason, love the hard-top and that you've got rid of the panel gap, by joining the sills to the body. 👍

Will you be cutting the boot/trunk off the S2000 hard-top?

Now I can't get the interior in.

It's close though, some small shaving of the sides and she'll slide right in.
Why, is that a different interior too?

[EDIT] Oh, i get ya, you mean where you've bonded the sills to the body. Can't wait to see the end result.

Any plans for the arches? i notice smaller diameter wheels than before (or am i mistaken).

Man, a hard-top MX5 is going to be pure win!

I'm not done cutting metal yet. :sly:
Hmm, intriguing.. Oh wait, is it going to be a coupe? (i think Mazda done a slick coupe version of a 1st gen MX5, didn't make it to production though, but should have imo).

[EDIT]
Something like this, or the other version Mazda did? (it had more of a rear quarter window than the one in the pic, iirc).

I love this car, but i wish it had flared arches.

Interesting Jason, I might follow suit with the hardtop thing if I ever get around to restoring the Miata I have.

Oi, btw, is that the yellow one I sent you?

Ugh, just broke off one of the sides while smoothing out the body. Guess I'm done working on it for the night while it dries again.

Edit: No, this is a black one I picked up at the meet last night for 50 cents.

A little wheel experiment.. It's no where near as good as the pro's do it, (check 3rd or 4th page of thread), but it's a start i guess.

I've painting the rubber tyre with acrylic (still drying so no pics), not sure how it will turn out, but applying permanent black marker to the clear rubber just doesn't seem to work (easily wiped off).

I like what you're trying out there, dude. Let's see how that turns out.

Here's the car porn for the week.

Also, I spent an afternoon working on my blog yesterday. Can I get some feedback on what you think of its content and layout of it? I worked on the About page on my customs as well as the master list of my collection now publicly available so will you guys be as so nice to give feedback specifically on these two pages?

Browse it like you're interested in finding out info. What do you like? What don't you like? I just want to know if there's anything I may have missed or something that doesn't seem intuitive or confusing to navigate. Also, point out any typo or grammar mistakes if you happen to find any. Thanks guys!
