I think I might have found my issue painting cars.

I'm thinking I might be using the wrong kind of primer, and I don't think how I'm prepping the car is in anyway affecting anything.

I painted this truck without any primer at all. It'll chip fairly easily, but the paint stays on WAY better than before. So I guess I'll find some better primer, and hope that it will work.

I'll finish this one up with a two-tone paint scheme, and some detail. So far, it's turning out better than I thought.

Btw, this is what I've been using

And I've also used this before too, which had the same outcome.

Did a little bit to the Escort today.

Added the arches, thickened up the door pillars (need to finish the other side), added the central crease to the bonnet, started to sculpt the rear lights, and added widened axles (surprising how wide the car sits now, easily a full tyre width over the datsun 510. Sounds like i got a fair bit done, right? but as can be seen in the toaster pics.. slowwww prrogresss..

Can I buy that from you when finished?????

Yes, if I can get some of those, that will solve both my wheel and engine problems on this one, granted that I can get them that is. If not, I still have other ideas to fall back on for this Twin Mill. ;)

One thing that has been concerning me lately is the windshield on this Hi Tail Hauler is extremely fogged up and I wonder if it would be safe to dip a cotton swab in the finish and then rub over it, without taking it apart of course. I don't want to ruin a vehicle this good. :scared:

Also, judging by the description, I take it this is the same product in the video but just with a different label?

I'd just leave it. I wouldn't risk screwing it up for something the in my opinion isn't really a huge deal.
Maybe. It looks a lot worse in person. If nobody is sure of what will happen, I will use a "guinea pig" for this one that way if it goes wrong, it won't really matter what happens to the vehicle I am using to test it. ;)

If you're ever curious to know, the primer I use is the plain-looking can in the auto section at Canadian Tire.

Good to know. Thanks

Also, those wheels would be perfect for Ferraris.

I'm thinking the same thing. They were the only ones at the moment that fitted the truck.

Anyways, some progress (hopefully)

I painted this truck(with primer this time), and the paint was chipping badly after a day, so I washed it off of all the fingerprints, and set it back in front of the fan for a few more day. When I come back hopefully it'll turn out, and I'll paint the roof white, because of a big chip I want to cover up.

And

I added a two tone paint scene to this Ford truck (the one I didn't prime) and it turned out real nice. The tape didn't even take of any paint when I removed it. :)

That's one shoddy photo for your level, but I really did like the wheels you found for it. 👍

HaHAHA yeah, I just now noticed that the picture is freaking blurry. That's what happens when you're playing with the zoom to get flatter angles

Thanks dude 👍

If paint is chipping on it's own with nothing touching it, then you're doing something really wrong. Make sure the car is 100% clean before you primer it, and then don't touch it before you paint.

My cars don't get cleaned, but paint don't come off on its own. It only comes off if it nicks something else. :P

Nah. I picked it up, and the paint was coming off with my fingernail as usual, so I figured it may not have had enough curing time.

I never have to test mine. I'm sure it would chip too if I did the same thing. If you must, do it somewhere you can't see it.

It's my little test to see if the paint sticks. If it comes of, I got a problem.

I see. I think you still may want to wait until the next day to test it still, just like I am with these three:

Getting back into the Illustrious and Dream Cruisers. Woot.

Well guys, I found that not only do my cars chip easily, but one of the custom painted Mustangs I got off of eBay a while ago chipped really easily. If this is the way it's going to be all of the time, then Hot Wheels customizing isn't for me. :(

I'm at a loss as to why you are having issues. Only other thing I can say is that custom cars may need to be handled gently. Other than that, no idea.
