Well, with much more radical tires obviously, but yes, it was inspired by the sole 1970 Trans Am entry in, well, Trans Am.

History lesson: Pontiac named the car Trans Am after the racing series, but as we all know the car was never sucessful in this venue. Even so, GM had to pay the SCCA a buck every time they used the name Trans Am. Expensive failure if you ask me.
Always wondered where the link (Trans Am) came from. That's what i love about GTP, it's like an education. 👍

I hope the car keeps the Trans Am look over the Camaro. They look so much better IMO. I think I need to find one now to add to my collection.
You could also hunt down a 70 Camaro. I found a green one on the pegs recently. Has a chin spoiler and wide fenders.

Same here, i prefer the look of the Firebird to the Camaro, (Camaros still look awesome though).

I have the green Camaro already. Was going to customise it a bit, but only got as far as painting the front and rear lights and painting the grill, with a Posca pen.

Some tail lights an on the ponys and front detail on the bmw

Ok guys, as I said yesterday:

So people, next HWMC custom contest = japanese cars, anything and everything. I'm already building the cage for a Hot Wheels AE86 that I've had painted white for about 3 years. And I'd like to try something really extreme in the form of a Hakosuka wagon. I also want to restore something, and I want the members of this thread to tell me what to. I'll post pics of the possible projects once I get home.

here are the candidates for restoration. Whichever one you choose I'll restore and enter in the next custom contest due the first weekend of june. You all have until tuesday to pick your favorite!

1- Hot Wheels Toyota MR2: This Mister Two has been with me since new and really suffered me, as you can see. This would be a hot street car with custom bodywok, since I'd delete the rally-style headlamps.

16986692788_fdb9c91a24_b.jpg

2- Hot Wheels Mazda Miata: The Windshield in this is toast, so it'd be a race car with no windshield, a big-ass cage and stuff.

17174436985_297113da06_b.jpg

3- Hot Wheels Z-Whizz: This one would be restored with original tampos and maybe wheels, but in a color it was never available... blue, yellow, maybe red.

16988287889_6833cc5591_b.jpg

4- Jada Nissan 300ZX: I'd try to fix the odd stance of this thing, but the availability of correct-sized rolling stock might complicate things a bit.

17173875401_4ba2952c21_b.jpg

5- Majorette Toyota 4-runner or whatever the heck this is: Just a repaint and detailing job, not much you can do to this thing.

16986737798_25c06ea4ed_b.jpg

6- Matchbox Nissan 260Z: A very very very rare made in Hong Kong (or China, can't remember well) Matchbox, the main focus here would be to correct the awkward stance caused by the oh-so-tiny wheels it has, as the casting is very very good.

7- Playart Honda S600: This is by far the rarest car in the list, and the most tattetered too... well, after the Miata. And it would follow trhe same route, windshield-less race car, but I don't even know if I can restore this thing properly... that grille shelll sure is in bad shape...

Do we only get one vote?
In order of what I'd most like to see
1. The Honda. It's just such a unique one that I'd think it would stand out more than the regular fare.

2 Nissan 260 z.
Not sure why but I like that casting

3. Toyota Mr2.
I love the MR2 but to me it seems like one of the eaiser ones of your selection. I could be wrong

Yes, only one vote, which I assume that, in your case, goes for the Honda.

also the MR2 isn't as easy, I have to fabricate the entire front fascia.

Lol yup. Honda then. I just threw my thoughts out, cause like what if you drop a couple from the running or something.
Honda's gonna be seriously cool if you do it

All for you to disregard it and go with something else? :P

No lol, I'll go with something else if I deem it impossible to restore properly, like kinda, if I cannot fix the grille shell of the Honda properly or something like that. There's also the always-present possibility that I won't finish it in time, but even then I'll still restore it over time.

Also, I have other projects running for the contest I'll show you later on.

my vote would be the matchbox Z

altho its actually a 280ZX (79-82)
and If I'da known they where rare I'da bought all 6 at the flea market last week ($3 ea and I did get 1) maybe he still has em...

personally the Jada 300zx is a HORRIBLE casting... they make the rear of the car seem HUGE, the matchbox Superfast 300 is probably the most accurate casting as far as shape and dimensions...

(sorry kinda got carried away but I take my Z cars seriously)

Z-whizz.. this guy knows his stuffs.

That's a tough one @Cano. They're all worthy of some Cano magic.

Personally the one i'd like to see done the most, would easily without a doubt be the Honda. Though it looks as though it could be quite time consuming.

The MR2 would be my second choice, as the rear of that thing needs fixing (hideous rear bumper bodykit).

The MX-5 would be my third. I can totally see that as a windowless racer. It would look great as something similar to the HW's Triumph TR6, or a Barchetta with one seat covered, or to expand on that, a Bonneville speedster.

My fourth choice would be the Z Whizz. I can appreciate the MBX is rare and everything, but it just lacks the beauty of the 240Z, though i'm guessing either would be quite straight forward customs compared with the other choices (with exception of the 4-Runner). The Jada?.. Although i trust you could do something real special with it, still gets a 👎

So to summarize:

1 Honda (looks tough and time dependent, but would be straight-up awesome!)
2 MR2 (looks fairly straight forward and that casting always needed fixing)
3 Mazda MX-5 (absolutely love to see one without a windscreen.. wish i'd thought of doing that to mine)
4 Z-Whizz (because 240 awesomeness).

It really is a tough one Mr C, but i'm sure whatever one you decide on it's going to turn out top notch. 👍

In other news: My Miata needs a front lip repair (no pics). This disappoints me :grumpy:

Managed to add a little more shape to the Firebird arches and rear spoiler: (the wheels are just place holders for the Torq thrusts) Fairly pleased with it so far, but it needs more work.

So that's 3 for the Honda, 2 for the Jada, 1 for the mister two and 1 for the Matchbox Z. In the CDM forum, where I also posted such a poll, the Honda is also winning. Guess it's absolutely oddball nature is really hard to pass up.

Also that Trans Am is shaping up quite awesomely.

Small block? Or big blown hemi block ?
image.jpg image.jpg
The front grill and other attachments including gas lines from side mounted gas tank will be added later including a new pain job :)

Scored big shopping before work this morning. I work with a collector and he knows when to shop after new cases get opened. Normally I get to the pegs too late (6:30 am) but today was different. Funny cause I got to the store a minute before my co-worker.

I bought the 914 solely for the wheels. Thinking they will go on the 70 Camaro. I am most excited about the Barracuda Formula S and the '69 Vette. Think the Vette will get 5 spoke RRs and a hugger orange paint job. I already have one or two Moon Eyes beetles so I need to swap red line RRs with disc wheels to it.

Have a lot to do this weekend.

Nice score dude. Where'd you go?

Where'd you go?

Kroger- I think it is a super Kroger cause they sell clothes and stuff too. The standard Krogers I go to for HW never have anything in stock. And I have learned to avoid Walmart cause the collectors are out around midnight or so grabbing the goodies. Or have paid the stock boy to hold all the goodies.
