Not on the red Firebird, yes on the drak gray Dart. You still owe me two cookies. Chocolate please.

We're all out of Chocolate, but we do have carbon flavour/burnt. Love the flame job on the Plymouth. It fits perfectly around the shape of the car (i like how it flows over the rear arch, especially). 👍

That's factory. The three flamed cars are mine. All of them are factory flamed, I just made... little changes. The black Plymouth specially is just a swap and interior recolor and done.

Oh, i had no idea they were factory flames. It's the little changes that make all the difference though.

In fairness, that was a pretty tough one to call, as many of those customs i know you're more than capable of doing.

[EDIT]

Infact, looking at the top 3 winners, i'd say you'd easily be able do something just as good, if you had more time to dedicate to it (busy schedule etc etc). 👍

To be sincere, I didn't really like the top two cars. The winning F100 has good work but it's just so random, so without a theme, but since the club doesn't judge the concept of the cars, you can't really say anything about that. The transporter looks soooo incomplete with the sides empty like that. A toolbox, a gas tank, a spare tire, so many damned things that could use the absolutely empty space on the sides of the platform. I wouldn't have taken that car to the contest, I would have deemed it incomplete.

The A100 is a whole other story. I offered the builder to design some psychedelic tampos for it as that one was absolutely 70s-show-stripper spot-on. The paint was horrible, though. It was a freaking orange peel, all of it, but easily solved with a coat of urethane all over it and the tampos.

I liked the general idea of the A100 but I felt like it was missing something. The 2nd place car transporter, to me the paint didn't look all that clean and even, maybe that's just me. The first place was...fine. not my cup of tea.

I had no idea the Tamiya stuff was like that. I'd still like to try some though.

[EDIT]

Okay, i got it @Cano is it the Cadambulance?

Lol yea, it is. It's nice cause no need to mix or anything, and it's easy to sand, but I had air pocket issues. It works better than jb weld

Let me clear up some confusion here. Milliput is an epoxy putty. It's two-component and 'hand moldable'. Tamiya also make an epoxy putty which works the same as Milliput. In fact all epoxy putty should work the same way, regardless of brand. This is what the Tamiya brand epoxy putty looks like.
That's not what you have though. It sounds like you have something like this. One component 'smear on stuff'. Which comes out as a paste and dries fairly quickly. It's useful stuff, but not the same thing. Next time you're at a hobby store look for epoxy putty if you want Nessy-style customization. 👍

Very very helpful. And I totally have the other stuff lol. Still learning. It's all good, as it's still awesomely useful. Guess I'm gonna have to go spend the extra moolah on the Milliput. All good. 3rd times the charm. And I'm not necessarily going for Nessy-style as you put it, as I won't be building entire cars. Lol. Just want to know how and have some experience, as I feel like it would be something to increase my skills.

Home Depot, Walmart and Canadian Tire have something.

Came home from an afternoon exam. Finished drilling open 48 cars just now. My joints hurt.

And that isn't even a 3rd of what my Queue box amount to. This is a box that's been backburning for 3 years!

That's great. And I'm like , aww man I got to drill open these 2 over here.

Grabbed the 57 because of the star-shaped wheels. Will grab de Road Runner because bad-ass blower and ET wheels. The mustang can cook in hell.

Agreed. Also not bad base car for customs. Mine are a little different though. They have a lift with them too. And I think different hoods. I'll have to go look at em again.

So, I had trouble painting the '68 Barracuda last weekend. I don't know if I would have liked how it turned out if I executed it properly. That hood scoop is huge but covered on all sides. I've thought about cutting the front out to be more realistic but there is no engine under there. Then I thought today, why not just cut the whole thing out and put an engine with a blower on it instead.
Thought is to take the '68 Barracuda, paint it Sublime Green and detail the engine from the Madfast and put it in the Barracuda.

Personal thoughts.
Good choice of color. I think it would work, but if you just cut the hood completely out it might look weird. If you can cut just the area for the engine go for it. Measure 7382.6 times and cut once you know. Also, find the fattest thickest rear tires you can, like the ones on the m2 road runner Cano posted above, and slam that back end down a bit, tucking the tires. Nice menacing stance. Good luck whatever you do!

Edit: in case anyone ever wants to take one apart.... It's a Tonka. I don't remember the series, I'll get back to you on that, if you want to know. The wheels roll wonky, but it's decently detailed and the main body is metal. Plastic base and extra bits. Held by a rivit and 2 triangle head screws. Rubber tires.

Barracuda didn't work out. I had a test car with a bad mold at the trunk. A portion of the hood scoop is at the front stud so I would need to cut the stud off to get the engine to fit. And at that point I would have most of the hood cut out.

I mocked this one up. I think I like it but I don't know yet. I am really hoping I can spray some flat clear over it to dull the finish. Maybe a quick detail will go a long way. The wheels originally had black wall tires and I stole the white walls from a '41 Willys I damaged taking apart.

That bus looks way better than I would jhave thought if you told me "I just added wide whites to a school bus".

I think it has to do with the fact the red is going well with the yellow.
It does indeed, and i like it but can't stop imagining the Taxi cab from 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit', for some reason.

[EDIT]

I wonder how well a HW's 'Benny The Cab' would sell for Mattel.

I'd buy like 100. Loved that holy heck out of that movie. Throw in Jessica rabbit, and I'd buy the entire made stock :sly:

Went to the strip club today.. I'm out of one's now...

Tonka fuel tanker. Only using the tank itself. Secret project

IMAG0466_1_zpscae4e4aa.jpg~320x480

Bronco - just a repaint. Sticking with same wheels and everything.

Lamborghini estoque - filling in holes in hood, repaint

Lamborghini venano- small body mods, repaint. Any ideas of how to get rid of green sharpie on Windows?

Combat medic - redo of original idea.

IMAG0467_1_zpsa9f92337.jpg~320x480

Dodge Van - repaint

Datsun wagon - undecided

Camaro's - was for an ongoing project. Now found 69 Camaro hardtop so may not be following through. May become own things.

IMAG0468_1_zps91663069.jpg~320x480

No current plans for these.

29 Ford's - hot rods, mild and wild. If you know what they look like normally you can tell they've been changed already.

Civic- fwd dragster idea bouncing around

I got a great idea today.
Or maybe it was a terrible idea, I'm still undecided.

Anyway, I thought up a way to make wire-spoked wheels. Very tiny wire-spoked wheels. Went to work on it and here's the unfinished 'prototype'.

That's the front.

And the back.

I want to stress the fact that it is very much a work in progress. It's basically just a start. The hub and edge connected by 'wires' (which are actually an electric guitar string). I figure what I need to do next (besides neatly sanding/painting and otherwise making it look less awful) is somehow make the edge thinner. Probably by sanding until my fingers fall off. I'd try it with the dremel, but it's too easy to go overboard with that. Especially on such a teeny tiny part. After that I need to find a suitable tire and that should be it (now repeat 3 more times to get a set!)

I am so so sorry about those pictures by the way. :P

That is amazing! 👍 How on earth are you keeping the guitar strings taut and the hub truly centered? My mind is boggled by how difficult that must have been to achieve. Remind me of mini Daytons.

I'm not entirely happy with how the front of the Del sol is going, it's really hard to get the shape i want (not as easy as i'd thought). May have to restart that bit of it again. :indiff:

(Off topic but loosely related to the custom thread)

I'm going to be starting this 1/18 scale 240Z custom. It's originally a 'Road Signature'/'Yatming' model and will be my first ever 1/18 scale custom. I'm hoping to make a one-off widebody/even more extreme version of this drawing i did years ago (the wheels are going to be different, also i'm losing the light covers and making the fender flares bigger, and blended into the fenders themselves).

Iv'e got the wheels i'm going to use and have taken off the bumpers etc etc. Next step will be stripping the paint and cutting away at the arches for a better ride height. (Will post progress in the 'Scale model' thread when i have more done to it, for those who're interested).

How it looked to begin with (not my pic)

Glad you like it. I'll post a more detailed description of the whole process when I make the second wheel.

The del Sol with the marks for the fog lights looks like a pig from Angry Birds. To me, it looks like it is coming along just fine. Just a little reshape of the front bumper.
