I think it's the way Americans pronounce cars aswell like the Toyota celica for example, Americans pronounce it "celicka" when it's pronounced "celeeka" New Zealanders pronounce Subaru "su bar ru"

Bit of a disaster (again..) with regards to the MX-5. The roll bar/cage came apart when i removed it from the interior. I guess that's what you get for using glue designed for use on plastic kits, on metal. I ran out of Superglue but i bought some Gorilla glue the other day, so that should do the trick.

Anyway, very slight update pic:

Iv'e drilled a couple of holes for wing mirrors and stuck some axle ends in the holes, just added a bit of Blu tac for a quick mock-up of the mirrors and front lip. Also seriously debating going with Torq Thrust wheels for the increased rim size/small tyre wall. Thoughts?

Another thing that's been on my mind of late, is that i'm thinking of possibly doing some resin casting. I know @Cano & his buddy Ahmed have had a go at doing wheels, (and if i'm mistaken, are still perfecting the art). I know it's no walk in the park, but i'd really like to cast my own resin cars at some point.

Maybe i'm dreaming too big, maybe i should just concentrate on finishing a custom within a 2 year time frame first.

Nessy IMO if your going for like a track style look, maybe try the small f1 style side mirrors if you know what I mean? Drill holes in the side, use some wire of some sort and make some small plastic rectangular mirrors, would look heaps better IMO than the stock shape you have basically perfected just out of blue tack. And what are these wheels you talk about? Would love to see them and know where they came from, but the wheels you have now look perfect.

I did debate going for a smaller mirror but decided against as it would be too small and fiddly, though there's nothing stopping me from experimenting with a smaller mirror once the putty has been applied and cured. The wheels are the same as what's used on the Firebird. 👍

Pic showing wheels and axle wing mirrors (minus blu tac). :

Drilling the holes on that angle was a royal pain in the posterior.

Motormax. 👍

Those wheels look good also, yeah I can see how much of a mission it would be to drill those holes.

Now that the roll bar is effectively apart, i'm trying to decide how the final version will look. I was going to go with option 1 (with the diagonal bar inside the main frame), but now i'm thinking option 2 (more of a standard type). Thoughts?

0= how it is at the moment:

That Gorilliglue seems to be working great, though i'm going to give it 24hrs to fully cure before i file back the ugly excess.. that stuff really expands.

If you do this, you'll throw away everything you've done to the car. Don't.

Yep, it does take away some authenticity if i were to do that. I just wish HW's would have gone with a slightly smaller sidewall for their Wats.. If the tyres had half a mm less rubber on them, the thought to use Torqs wouldn't have even crossed my mind.

There is a solution, if you have steady hands. Take an exacto knife and slowly, carefully slice the excess off

Meaty look > "look, I have a marker's width of sidewall" look. The tires that come with the Minilite-style wheels are perfect. Plus they're slicks.

Id go with number one mate, less work and still looks a treat. Just my opinion though. I'd have to agree with cano about the wheels now that he mentions it, plus IMO the chrome style doesn't fit a jdm look.

So, my phone died and I was unable to take pictures. But, hey at least I got plenty of practice in the meantime :D

First is a 1956 T Bird made by Maisto. I named him The Purple People Eater. The current project is a Pontiac GTO (The Firebird I was working on originally is proving to be a little bit more difficult than I imagined), and is the first one in which I'm using Real Riders. Thoughts, gents?

Wow that gto looks fresh as man, like the color, looks good so far.

Edited post-

Here's a quick evo I mocked up, couldve been better but the colours work well IMO.

Emmcee: Thanks man! And just like most things, I swear it looks a thousand times better in real life.

Cano: It's an original mix I made using purple, metallic blue, and a little red, all Tamiyas. I wanted an original color for the T Bird, and I think the results are not half bad, really.

Unfortunately, physics dictate that wheels really should be round in shape.. Not square, as you're quite clearly suggesting. (my hands are not that of a surgeons)

You're both right, but i still wish they were slightly smaller (half a mm). But anyway, you'll both be pleased to see that they're back on the MX-5. And it does suit it better than the Torq's. 👍👍 (the Wats/Minilites may still be staying chrome though).

Finished the roll bar (just needs the glue filing off a bit once cured). I went with the diagonal main frame bar, with rear facing diagonal struts. Fairly pleased with how it's turned out. All that remains now is: to putty up the front lip and the wing mirrors (still Blu-tac ATM), shape them both, then primer and ready for paint.

Should be finished by at least 2/5/17 then. :D

That casting is pretty good, but I can't get over how goofy looking the windshield is.
I know, that's my main problem with it too.. that and the rear overhang is a bit too long.

I'm going to see whether i can shave a little bit off the pillars, and maybe paint the raised edge around the windscreen, black, in an attempt to disguise the goofyness of it.

Lol. Square wheels he says. Maybe if you just cut straight down.
What? Half a wheel, you say? hmm.. semi circle wheels.

[EDIT]

Ohh (joking aside), i see what you mean now. 👍

IIRC @R1600Turbo did the same thing for his awesome RX7 (sliced a section out the tyre, then glued back together).
