What colour?

Pro tip: If you want to use those Metal Cast Anodized paints, you can't prime the body. These paints aren't 100% opaque. They're like a tint that's meant to go over a mirror-finish. If you want the colour-tinted chrome look (like suggested on the can's cap), you'll have to buff and polish the metal until it shines, and then spray the paint directly on top.

edit: This is what it looks like when you spray the anodized green over a brilliant silver.

There are no sparkles. That is from a different can of clear paint; the dupli-color clear EFFEX from Canadian Tire.

This is what it looks like when you paint over an unpolished bare metal body:

And this is what it looks like when you've lightly polished the body:

If you want it to look as dope as Hot Wheel's Spectraflame paint, I highly suggest polishing and buffing until you find virtually no imperfections and that the body is shining bright. I was mislead when I did the Corvette because the polish I use creates a dark dirty substance at first. So when you reveal the shine after wiping it off, the contrast throws off your perception. In reality, I probably had to go over the body 4 or 5 more times, preferably with the buffing wheel for the higher temperature to soften the metal's surface and for the faster abrasion rate.

It's actually meant to go directly on metal? I know some special effect paints require a gloss black base coat, would that not work?

Lots of people spray "chrome" paint over a black coat to get the best results.

The Duplicolor Anodized paint isn't a chrome of any kind. It's a translucent colour that blends with the surface you're spraying in, so If you sprayed it over grey primer, the results would be dull grey + tint of colour.

Would it be interesting to you people if I

Eh screw it, just check out my project boxes. This is jut one of them.

Ok I'm interested. What are you going to do with the Stratos in the first box?

Most likely restore it as a street car, maybe in blue, as I have another one with the turbo widebody that will be turned into a race car with a custom livery.

As I'm sure y'all might have guessed by now, I 🤬 love BMW's. I made myself a BMW M4 Converitble. I would have had it done earlier, but sadly Lexington KY has gotten nothing but rain the past week.

I also lowered it a bit, but I don't think you can tell in this picture because it's blurry.

@Avalonbug the biggest challenge with turning HW hardtops into convertibles is addressing that gap between the rim of the metal and the edge of the interior piece. A real convertible doesn't have that after all!

Idk.. I don't really like them. I may just try to make some.. Tanks for the suggestions though!
Keen on BBS style wire spoke wheels? You could use the Hot Wheels Indy Car wheels. I've used them several times.

Example:

I used the rear wheels for the Scion, problem is I used different tires and they don't exactly fit right. You could get by using the fronts with less dish and the tires will fit right.

I can't wait to see that Mach 1 restored. Not the greatest casting, I know, but I know I'll look really good restored. 👍

Thanks R1600! I'll definately try big lots!
On a side note i took a shot at interior detailing for the first time today..

And I also have a larger Fr-S I've been working on, i did the interior work on it today as well--there was no detailing whatsoever, it was 100% black plastic for the interior
(minus the windows of course;)

Can't wait to see the Limo. 👍
I am really curious to see what you plan to do with that Airport Rescue truck. Thats not a common choice, sounds like something I would do.
Is that a double decker bus on the left?

I already have one of those limos stripped, but that one in the box is my very own from when I was a kid, so even if I do two, it will receive restoration.

The rescue truck will be red like the France version of that casting, maybe with the stock decals at the sides, but I want real truck-like wheels instead of blackwalls, which is precisely what has stopped the project. But it's a great candidate, having both water guns and all.

And the double decker bus is nothing special, it's just a Maisto that my mom bought me off a car boot sale or something like that like a year ago. But since my mom gave it to me, it will receive restoration too.

Get a chair, lol. That one will take a whiiiile. But don't worry, got plenty other Mustangs that will receive restoration 👍

Come a new page of the thread, I'll post the next box :D

Okay, I'm headed to a city that actually has a hobby store today:tup: I'm going to get some spray lacquer, some tamiya or testors model paint, some more detail brushes.. hopefully we will stop by somewhere I can pick up a car or two:dopey: this is becoming sort of an addiction.. Also, what screws should I use to put the cars back together?

Some more shots of the interior to the bigger FrS.image.jpg image.jpg

I also took the metal strip "suspension" out of an old mustang and put it in the hw frs, but I put it upside down so it holds the wheels up and lowers the car.

Excuse the bad quality pics..

So much potential... I really need to get to work on my stuff again. Hell, 2 are just sitting in primer, all they need is final coats.

What's the one in the first box, below the stratos, says Lola, was white?

I don't blame you. If a vehicle is special to you and it brings back memories, restorations are always best. Precisely why I restored my old Countach rather than turning it into something else.

Indeed. Can't acquire the french version so you make your own instead. I look forward to seeing it with a wheel swap, you may be the first to do that.

Oh, I thought it was this one at first:

That one wouldn't be a bad idea if I ever found one in rough shape.

A Zylmex Lola T70.

Well, by restoration I meant rehabbing. It's not rare enough to deserve a true, back-to-stock resto. Amd I already have another mint one. But it will get fixed, modified, I dunno.

Oh, I thought it was this one at first:

I wish. There is a mexican version of that thing, so I haven't lost hope of grabbing one.
