How is Assetto Corsa to play?

@andymidnite , Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio and Zandvoort and a lot of other tracks are all available to AC ether has scratch created or conversion, Race department has a lot of them in the download section.

How it plays ?

****ing fantastic. F40 is pure joy to drive. How it gathers RPM, how it downshifts, how it maintains balance...

And now i downloaded some gravel poland track + Opel that has 130hp and it is ****ing best thing i ever did in my life.

I played the career 458 Trofeo on Monza yesterday. Wow, that was so awesome! Although I only managed to win when all the other cars got in trouble and some of them had to retire.

I'm pretty far from being an expert driver obviously. Adequate I guess. It seems to me that the AI are fast on the straights but brakes too early and have a less than optimal cornering ability. Those are the situations where you can overtake or gain on them. But you need to be consistent, and I'm not quite there yet apparently.

Right you are. I totally forgot about that while writing my thoughts - even though I've already grabbed a few of the user-created tracks to try out!

Finally found a version of Macau Guia Circuit that works in AC 1.09RC.
For those interested, follow the YouTube video link and read more "description" (*COUGH)

BTW, slightly off topic for but just letting you guys know that EuroSport will broadcast the final two rounds of World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) live from Macau 14-16 Nov. It will be interesting to watch Sebastien Loeb perform in such a tight narrow circuit.

33% in career mode and i can tell you AC is worth the money! Physics is on par with LFS for over/under steer and braking......the only things that need improvement are the clutch physics and the fact you cannot do brake jobs (ie burnouts on the spot). Also still suffers from a very touchy accelerator pedal (maybe a G27 thing) that has you revving to limiter with just a few millimeters of throttle.

Cannot wait for full game, but i am absolutely hooked just battling AI with street tyres and trying for the win.

I'm having this too (T500 pedals). Was wondering if something was wrong with my pedals.

Mini necro-bump.

So the problem I had where trying to have an AI race on any community made track, which 100% of the time resulted in a sudden system reboot a couple of minutes into a race has magically fixed itself over the past week.

Thought I'd try my luck and have been having some 56 car races at Circuit De La Sarthe, some lasting for 40 minutes and no system crashes of any kind.

My facial expression during the races:

Yeah, they drop a few IQ points during the first lap or two :dunce:, so I tend to hang back around last place for lap 1 to let them settle in, then after that I find you can have a pretty decent race with them.

I swear they used to be faster in the younger days of the game during Early Access though, I want to crank them up to 110%.

I've not tried that method, I'll have to give it a go. I usually make it to third place by the first or second turn, and then stare at the bumpers of first and second place as they drive off into the sunset. There's usually a huge gap between the top two and the rest of the field, it seems. I've only done the short "career mode" races though.

I'm just uploading a replay now, where I start in 46th out of 56th and it only took two laps to clear the field at 100% (though, it is a long track).

Hang around at the rear of the bottom pack for the first lap, facepalm at the incidents occuring in front of you, but then try and make your way to first afterwards, it's a whole different story. I'll have to save a replay of an example.

I agree that it's a bit like GT6 with the lead rabbits, I hope Kunos fix it so that all of the AI drivers have that pace.

AC's AI very much reminds me of GT5/6, they never really seem to be aware of your presence and when they finally notice you they're like "Oh, excuse me. After you good sir". That's why, for me, AC is mostly hot lapping/cruising and a few online races with mates, and I go to R3E for my AI racing (they're rather epic!).

Here's a sample, they can be ruthless and don't back down, ever. I love it.

The AI are just like GT5/GT6... You're invisible to them :P

Assetto Corsa does a lot of things well, but at the same time, it's very far off. This goes for all "Sims."

I've mentioned this before regarding other games, but as someone who races in a professional series IRL, it seems like I keep getting worse and worse at playing these "Sims." At the moment, they are at the fine line of being just real enough to give the illusion, but not quite there to live up to it. I just played it for the first time the other day, and it seemed promising at first, and perhaps this was just due to the wheel I was using, but at no point did I have any clue what on earth the car was doing. I didn't know where the grip was, understeer would surprise me at every corner and I felt like I had saddled a horse that had a mind of its own. I couldn't even finish a simple lap around Silverstone's GP circuit without going off!

What I meant about games being at the fine line of realism is that, at first, it delivers the illusion that you're actually driving a real car. As someone who competes IRL, this gives me the most important instinct a driver can have with a car....trust. I put complete trust in the car, in its abilities and in the fact that it will do what I ask of it. The part where a lot of these "sims" fall flat on their face is that the illusion is only 60-70% there, so when I'm expecting the other % to show itself, it doesn't and I fall flat on my face. I kept understeering in every damn car I tested and the worst part of it all is that I had no clue why that was happening.

Like I said, this isn't only an Assetto Corsa thing. This is a me thing. I have a friend whose hobby is Sim Racing, and he seems to like it a lot (It was at his place that I tested the game the other day.)

Maybe I'm just getting old.

AC is my fave racer out there. I still play Forza and Driveclub, but if you are after real race feel, then there is no better sim as AC. Well, project Cars might kick AC in the teeth.. we'll see.
Here is my little setup / im getting there (slowly but surely)

Nice. 👍 How did you mount your display to your wheel? I have the same wheel and I'm looking for a good solution like that. What apps are you using (iOS or Android)?

Also, your shifter is backward. You should pull it towards you to upshift and push away to downshift. :sly:

thanks man. Yep i know shifter is upside down :) gotta change it before i embarrass myself
any further.

I've tried few free apps and miserably failed. Mainly because installation process is too painful.
I settled down for app Dash Mater Pro on Android (5 gbp in UK). Very easy to set up and it finds Assetto itself.
DashMeterPro is very easy to modify too.

Both screens are attached fairly similar to each other. I used L shaped metal hooks (sold as hanging gasket for flower pot). On top of the wheel, hook is attached with Velcro, on the left side wooden extension i used screws. Tablet and phone holds on velcro. Easy to take off etc.

Drat, I don't have an Android device. I've got sinspeed working though, I like it but it's a bit limited. That's a clever mounting mechanism, I wouldn't think velcro would be sturdy enough but it seems pretty solid on your mount. Did you use two of those L hooks on the wheel mount or just one?

you have to find a good velcro. I've got some industrial one in my hardware store. For a phone i used 1 x L shape thing and maybe a 6cm long strip velcro underneath to fix it on a wheel. If you have a closer look on your wheel, you will see a perfect spot right in the middle where to attach the L shape. Then smaller velcro to hold the phone itself. Trust me, you could turn the wheel upside down and shake it as a mad man... it is very sturdy, otherwise i woudnt go this route.
Tablet holds on 2 velcro (2 x L shape things fixed with screws).
It took me time to find exact height L shapes or otherwise it would obscure my view and my monitor/screen.

I'm looking for a good solution like that

Do you have a Sat Nav? If you do may be you could try sticking the holder for your Sat Nav on to the wheel's base and clip your phone into it. If you don't have one, phone and Sat Nav holders only cost a few bucks. I haven't tried this personally but I might do when I change my set up later in the week.

good idea and probably better looking one :)
I will give a go myself 👍

That's basically what I use now, but it's not ideal and I can't get it to fasten to the wheel anywhere so I just put it on a CDS case. The one good thing is that I can easily remove it so it doesn't block the screen when I'm not racing.

Not to hack this thread but I'm seriously look into this getting this and an Android tablet running Power-Grid for my GT Omega Wheel Stand.
