Never broke one yet. I still have the DS2 that came with my PS2 when I bought it back in 2002, and it works just like new!

However someone once spilt brandy on one of my spare controllers, and it stopped working.

Opened it up,cleaned it out with ethanol and put it back together....still works to this day, that happened 3 years ago.

...and the GT4 disk and my PS2. Stabbed the reset-button a couple of times too hard with my finger as i do, now they (PS2 and disk) don't play anything anymore.

I haven't smashed any but i did get mad enough i almost did but instead i just used the aggression in the racing and murdered everyone in the race...Every time i get mad to smash a controller i just think of my friend who literally used to go through 1 controller a month so that also kept my cool.

Also i saw these awesome controllers for ps2 at a store and it was a nerf controller for those who like to throw the controllers.

WOW: some of you guys need to take up gardening or crochet or something to help with that anger! J/K...

In seriousness now: I never broke any of this stuff out of anger, but I DID accidentally rip a wheel off once, mainly through trying to overtake a Zonda on the 'Ring...turned that stinker so hard it spun all the way round and then popped off!

Funny in retrospect, an OMFG at the moment...

That don't matter. I need to go out more, i agree with you on that, but i'll still get worked up no matter what. :mischievous: That's how it is...at least i'm not out blowing up banks or beating up puppies, right? :nervous:
Thats funny.
I have to agree with both of you.
Actually I find somethings in life frustraighting.
Video games, specifically GT4, I find relaxing.
And to all the above posters.
Yep the Sony Dual shock is rugged.
To bad real cars cannot take the abuse these things take.
I have broken gearshifts on real cars.

The Sony dual-shock is the best I've found.

Besides smashing them up, there are all those times that I've mashed my thumbs onto the analog sticks...with enough force to crush a lesser joystick, but the dual-shock merely complies. I've also pounded my fist onto the buttons...tried to "rip" the dual-shock in half...

...they only break when I get mad enough to start throwing one around the room. :indiff:

I'll never forget one time a couple of my roomies heard me in a dual-shock rage. They came bursting into my room without knocking, and I'm sure both of them were shocked cuz I was a completely different person. I kept saying "look, I'm fine. Just leave me alone"....

Parnelli Bone,
I learned from Gran Turismo (1) that frustraition kills you in races.
Calm and gentle handling persevires (Sp)
Just like in real life it isn't how fast you drive it is how good you drive.

No, see, you probly got the wrong impression of me cuz of this thread. It's not like every time I play some GT I freak out....if that's the way it was, I wouldn't enjoy it at all and would move on to something else.

But I have these "moments". So far over the last 4 years I've had 12 to 15 of them (representing those smashed dual-shocks). And maybe it's better that I allow myself to go mental..maybe it's part of how I relieve stress..and why I rarely get upset in real-life.

only problem of course is it costs money to smash dual-shocks.. :guilty:

I've broken 2 controls, but through wear and tear.

My most recent control breakage was where the screw screws in to keep the 2 halves of the control together, is broken on 1 side. Selotape holds it but it feels uncomfortable. So it's either uncomfortable control or control that's ready to spill its guts all over my floor. Luckily I have a spare so I'm using that.

My first one just simply died. I don't know how. So I use it as spare parts.

I don't smash controllers, but rather torture them into submission. :mischievous:

I threw my controller for the 1st time in a loooooong time today. Was so close to wining a 200-pt race.Final lap final stretch im a second ahead the RX-7 bumps me and passes me.A wasted 10 mins that 🤬 🤬...

Eh, the most I do is squeeze the hell out of the controller...

Then I feel it bend a bit and I back off and cool off a bit.

I think I made my vote a little early. Starting to get some non-responsiveness from the D-pad on Control #1. :(

EB games & warranty to the rescue. Get a new controller for nothing and I'll be happy once again. I knew it was there for something. :P

Err...umm... what would you use the d-pad for? Not driving, surely? :D. Although, come to think of it, it's easier to use if you wanted to, I dunno, drive backwards...:dopey:. My controllers are just worn out too, they're affecting my max speed tuning, by braking at random! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I drive with D-pad and X/[] still. :D

RJ: That's whats caused my controller to break at the screws. :ouch:

I still have my original DS2. The vibration is broken on the left side though and that is the side that most of the shock is felt. Now all i hear clicks because i think its jammed against the inside wall of the controller.

I am also still using my original DS2. It has 75,000 A-spec miles on it, as well as 100% games in GT3, GTA:VC and GTA:SA.
Everything still works well, so well in fact that somebody accused it of being psychic at UKGTP9.

I guess that makes it 'well worn in', not 'used and abused'.

Haha. Back when I overkilled, I used to be really pissy. Hell, Id slap the TV sometimes!! :scared:
But no controllers ever did break. Well, no, thats a lie. My old PS1 controllers survived, but my two DS2s are kinda...well, one has died completly, but i dont think that was due to me abusing it. My current one tho, is falling apart, the vibrator motor on the right is rattling, the X button and left analogue stick have a tendancy to get stuck down and have am ind of their own, and the shoulder buttons can get stuck. BUT IT STILL WORKS!!
Maybe I should put a Toyota symbol on it and called it the DS-Hilux? (Top Gear fans will get what im going on about there :))
And I certainly can't be accused of being a nerdo who needs to get out more - i go out all the time, ive dated plenty of girls, hang out all the time with friends...I dunno, I get kinda get frustrated easily. Im getting better at just putting things down and walking away tho 👍

 What do you have to do to KILL one of these?

I loved that episode, partially because my Father-in-law owns one. ;)

Err...umm... what would you use the d-pad for? Not driving, surely?

Lots of people successfully drive with d-pads. Personally, I like using mostly analog steering, but I switch to d-pad for all those moments when I just need partial steering input. D-pad is more accurate than analog if you just want to point yourself in the right direction, but analog is better for "feeling" the corner you're in.

Because of the stupid peneltys on gt4, i've broke 3 controlers.

+ the first one i smacked and the select button got stuck in the control. I smacked it again and it broke a few days later.

+ The second i stamped on about 7 times in a row

+ The third i broke on the same as the second, but this time i jumped on it.

The peneltys are so bad i try to stop myself braking them but just can't stop myself.
lol- i say "penelty...i'll show you who has a (removed by moderator) penelty". don't get me wrong am a really nice guy, but things like this really get to me

None, I'm too much of a scrooge to do that. A reasonably wide variety of things have experienced flight though and as a detail my old SNES pad has a set of quite deep tooth marks in it. :D
Updating a bit. Recently I got royally fed up and used an old computer keyboard that I had in storage for days like that to release some steam. Whacked it onto the concrete floor three times and watched the joyous flight of the keys. After that I broke the covers in three (both of them), snapped every snappable small plastic part I found in the thing and threw the remains in the trash can. The cost: absolutely nothing, it was a non-working keyboard destined for the trash can years ago. :D

I can dig. 👍 As I've smashed controllers in the past, a small part of me likes watching the little parts fly everywhere. Most of me is not enjoying it, tho...it's like I'm too angry to enjoy it.

Good news tho, it's been over a month since I smashed one. 👍 I got thru Mission 34 so the controller death ratio should surely go way down...
