Duuuuude. The Willow Rally was so much fun I want to take it and make a Tuesday night event out of it! We also found that you can do an inside loop as well (and still have it count as a lap), and with the barrels on the inside of the corners, use them to mark the "gates" and have to pass between them and the track like the one barrel we were doing that with on the outside loop. I was thinking it would be cool to do a bunch of 2 lap races where the first lap is taken outside, and then you cross the track at the start/finish to take the second lap on the inside. :D

I also tested out Streets of Willow and with the crazy texture of the surrounding desert (big drops, bumps, etc...) it was actually a lot of fun too. The inside loop of Streets isn't very good because of how narrow some parts are and because of all the criss-crossing sections of pavement. The ouside loop is a lot of fun but you have take some counter-intuitive (read: easy to get lost of you don't know where you're going) paths to make sure it counts as a lap.

I've found that as long as you hit the sector marks (when you're mid-lap timing shows up) you will complete the lap. So a lap around the outside requires you to come all the way around the outside of turn 2 (there's a huge gully there, which is awesome and reminds me of driving around gravel pits as a kid) and come down towards turn 3 to make sure you come near the first sector line. As soon as the sector 1 timing pops up you make a U-turn and head back up sticking reasonably close to pavement (there's an added extra chicane piece of pavement near turn 4 that you've got to go outside of) and as long as you don't veer too far out into the desert after passing a really rough section of desert with the fence corner really close on your left, you can catch the sector 2 marker. When you catch the sector 2 marker you know you're in the clear and can just floor it all the way up to round out the top of the track and the just run straight down the other side. Take a sharp left before you end up meeting up with the track again to hit the big parking-lot area. Drift across that back to the right and hit the start/finish straight and you've completed a bonafide GT6 Rally-Cross Dirt/Pavement style track. Go too far in the parking-lot and you'll be heading straight into the pit. This is a LOT of fun once you know where you're going, but it lacks a lot of the easily identifiable markers like Big Willow has (namely, any barrels really...) so you have to take a few practice laps until you know exactly where to go to make sure the lap counts. Add darkness to the mix and it starts getting REALLY confusing

Note: there is one barrel on the inside loop of Big Willow that you can't use as a gate marker... I mean literally cannot use. Try it out and you'll see which one it is :P

Edit: Just because...

Great racing last night guys! Great cars. My wife was like " did you know your car is 20 years older than the next oldest?" I can not help it, I love this Mercedes! Hate that I missed the impromptu "rally"

Also, I did a quick shuffle through tracks to see if there were any other hidden gems like Willow for something like this and decided... not really. I played on Ascari for a bit, but the grass handles horribly, and there's too many gravel traps that trigger TC. Also, the most interesting parts of the track (look like trails through the woods) are invisible walls! It caused me physical pain when I hit one :P

Right in the feels?

After discovering that you can run behind the walls at Willow, this has become my new favorite way to run the Willow Rally:
  1. Take the service road to the inside of turn 1,
  2. As soon as you see the barrel on the inside of turn 2, aim for the left of it, crossing the road and then hitting the jump,
  3. Swing around the inside of turn 2 using the dirt line as in inside barrier towards the left side of the next barrel,
  4. Hit the next barrel mound jumping you over the road (if done well, if not... bouncing you off of the road),
  5. Take whatever route you'd like through the inside of turn 3 (the barrel just ends up being really annoying after a few laps so I started ignoring it... the combo of turn 3/4 is a pretty big choke point enough)
  6. Outside of corner 4 (using the steep banking at the exit of turn 4 is a lot of fun)
  7. Then just take as best a run as you can down the back, if done right you can carry a lot of speed, if done wrong you'll end up sliding out onto the road and lose a lot of speed.
  8. Continue all the way down, hugging the left side banking until you start to see the walls and house w/ dogs...
  9. Carefully brake and slide behind the walls and run down the back straight (this is actually a really cool section that almost feels like it was made for this... do the entry wrong and you're gonna have a bad time as you'll be launched into the fence and take a lot of damage)
  10. Continue all the way around the outside wall of the course and you'll eventually come to the bottom right corner where it turns into a sort of dirt half-pipe with ridges on either side
  11. When the ridge on your left shrinks away, hop over it and quickly dart back to the inside of the pits (because otherwise you're about to head straight into them)
  12. Alternate route that I like to use for the last lap: After coming down the back straight, immediately turn left after the wall ends, before the ridge begins, try to aim to the left of the barrel on the other side of the track, jump the track, and then follow that back towards the start/finish (watch out for the ravine on the right)

Also: Favorite car currently to do this with is the Toyota RSC '01. Little expensive, but runs some of the fastest times around here even though it doesn't make the 600hp I was using with other cars. It also looks really Turtle-y in green :P

Pics time... And this might as well kick off with the two fastest last week.
Here's @Murilo and his nice looking 2000GT battling with @gears_1000 and the 240Z.

There were connection issues this week. Jay hasn't mentioned any details, but it's probably going to be EU vs JA again.

Sounds good.. Have to admit my combo pick not the greatest we've had. My bad.
Perhaps we should vote in a different track next time maybe ?

The combos were great man I was going to race but have been painting my house then had internet issues on Thursday. I hope we run it again as a make up race.

Hello Racers,

Due to the weird issues on Thursday both on GTPlanet and GT6, we will be extending the JDM vs EDM Classics event this Thursday, July 3rd. Based on the cars performance, I'm thinking that Autumn Ring will be a good "neutral ground" for this Make Up Event.

That being said, unfortunately I will not be able to attend this week, but I'm pretty sure @euclid58 or @BionicDerp would be happy to host.

In the next half hour or so, I'll also have the "Full Schedule" updated with a few weeks of upcoming events.

Thanks everyone for participating, I'll also be adding @Murilo and @gears_1000 to the Drivers List! Thank you both for joining and continuing to race with us!

I'm thinking start with full, and if need be, revert to short? (@BionicDerp )

Also, Full Schedule has been updated up till the end of August! Viva la HST!
