If You Could Remake GT2...

My remake would look like this:

- Remake a few car models (some of them made great cars look awful).
- Engine sounds revamped.
- I would almost consider a GameCube Port for the OpenGL based graphics. PS2 would be the main platform though. Possibly PC-based version as well (but only if it came with a Linux install option as well. Windows users get all the racing games.).
- Qualifying rounds.
- "Car moron" explanations for all the different tune settings. For example, user presses the select key, gets guide as to what changing this option does. If moving the bar to the left help reduce oversteer, and reduces understeer when moved to the right, that's what the exaplanation says.
- Lower priced ASM and TCS for those of us who can't drive worth crap with a joystick or gamepad!!!
- More styles of Racing mods for each car or different color options on more cars.
- More challenging AI.
- Better ending credits for both modes.
- With a PS2 version would come... One disc not two!!!
- More music. Better music. I got so sick of "I Think I'm Paranoid" by Garbage after it looped that song for eight races in a row, that I switched the music off.

I think that's all. I'll edit this post if I get more ideas...

-> I'd like to see when ever you qualify before a race, when you get pole position you have a bonus of CR1,000 just like in GT1.

-> I'd be calling it a PSOne version of GT4.

-> Smoother graphics (like GT1).

-> Car display doesn't rotate too fast.

-> "Moon Over Castle" as it intro music for the US-spec.

-> All the raace courses from GT1 to GT4.

-> Save game icon at the Arcade/Simulation mode w/o going all the way to the main menu.

- Make the main menus much more userfriendly. Too much to-ing and fro-ing for my liking to get to whichever dealership or location you want.
- Beef up the AI a bit. It was downright laughable sometimes. I'll never forget the first time through the Grand Valley Enduro all the CPU cars took themselves out at the first hairpin and didn't get back on track until I'd laped them twice.
- Include Rome Night on the actual simulation disc a bit more. Once as a licence test was pathetic for such a great track.

Other than that, I dare not change GT2 with my unholy hands!

Do you race?

Exactly...it takes forever to get where you want to go sometimes. It kinda sux when you try and enter a race only to find your car has too much power...so then you have to go to the track test area to detune the engine.

The AI generally sux until you learn how to enter cars with lesser power (sometimes 150 hp or more lower than the maximum allowable HP), then it gets quite competitive!

Rome Night rules...you're right, they shoulda used it more on the sim disc.

Buyable body kits, engine transplants and tranny transplants (4WD V8 Mini, anyone?) :D
I've built a Mini with a TVR Speed 12 engine in the back. It's crazy cause when you try and steer round a corner the back overtakes the front. I love it. I haven't raced it yet but I plan to, probably come last but who cares it will be a breeze. I wanted to put the Renault F1 engine in the back but the game crashed so I settled for the TVR instead, trying to make the ultimate go-kart.

The Vanishing Boy
-> Save game icon at the Arcade/Simulation mode w/o going all the way to the main menu.
Yeah thats a good idea, it bugs me how you have to come all the way out just to save the game.:banghead:

If I were to remake...
-better AI is #1 priority, rather than the autopilot droids hovering around the track.
-#2 Slightly improved physics. Meanwhile bouncing off other cars on a hairpin is a surefire way of winning, it's rather unrealistic.
-#3 Lose some of the repeat Japanese autos- No need to keep 100 variaties of Skylines.... Instead put in more exotics (like GT4) or use the resources on improving the graphics on moderately sucky levels like Grinderwald and Tahiti.
-#4 I realize that this is asking too much, but more racing mods would be very cool - I really dislike it how the game omits racing mods for cool cars like the BMWs- the 5s, 7's, the 8. Also the AMG Mersedeses, and the like.
-#5 Better menus. I'm agravated by having to enter the purchasing parts screens- Manufacturer-Tune-Brakes-Sports Brake Controller-Would you like to buy(Yes Morons)-Install now?(Yes)-Purchased(OK DAMMIT). My PS one's laser shifts back and forth between the screens, annoying the hell out of me. It's good that the warm-up lap screen is removed, but it should still be an option (for both the GT2 gamers who get a kick out of spending more time to race an extra lap =P).
-#6 The race rewards system needs to improve. How's about no Rallye ESCORT after the endurance races!!! It's way unfun when you don't get the car you wanted in the random award system... Also, what's up with rewarding 20k-30k as a prize meanwhile dishing out cars that sell for 250k (a la Touring car tourney).
-#7 Meh I have the buggy version, 1.0. Get rid of the bugs!! Oh well i bought it used for $7.99 =P. :)

Getting rid of the bugs goes without saying. No proper S/W company should release S/W with bugs, I mean the GOD Microsoft don't!!!!

in response to flaming wonkey's post above: #6: the car manufacturers in GT2 seem desperate to promote their products, that's why they shell out a lot more credits for prize cars than the race itself allows; hence, at some races you'll get $10,000 from the race series (because they're cheap) even though the grandstands are supposedly packed with fans. But the race sponsored by Nissan-who wants to give you a 180 sx Drag Car, and even if you don't want it, you can still cash it in for 250,000 credits. Either way, you're gonna be really grateful towards Nissan. that's my theory, anyways.

That's why the car selling system in GT was better. Whatever car you got you could either sell it for 10,000 or find the right dealership and sell it for 12,000. But I have still managed to get over 17 million in GT and I estimate that by the time I have finished I will have over 20 million.

The money isn't real you know!!!

The credits aren't real, but real-life sponsorship is. For instance, some folks over at Nissan must have been real psyched to know GT2 would include many of their cars + a bunch of exotics. So they made sure to include as many of their products (like all those 600 hp+ Skylines) in the game, which doesn't hurt their real-life image. And then if you don't want the prize car, you get tons of money for it. Again, in a messed up way it doesn't hurt their image; makes them look real good to people like me who actually have money and can buy a real car. I didn't even know what a Skyline was till I started playin GT2!

I: 1would just forget about Pikes peak all together if its not the full version.
2 add day and night versions of all tracks
3: Make some races on motor sports land, be a great 1 on1 and drifting track.
4: add a mileage keeper.
5: easier way to detune a car for restricted races.
6: 1 on 1 races and drag racing with full stats
7:give starting credits based on license test results.
8:wheels and tire size option like the gamewas promised.
9: better even generator

Don't Kill This Thread! More Posts, Please!

Here Are More Of My Ideas:

1. Add More Cars

2. Make Codes To Race With Inabdnamate Objects (I Think Thats How It's Spelled...)

3. Event Generator: Easy, Normal, Hard, Expert, Master, Extreme!

4. I Love The Idea To Blow Up Cars If There Losing!

Here Are My Mom's Ideas:

1. Improve The Graphics To Make It Look Like GT3

2. Add The Plymouth Voyager And BMW Z3 As Playable Cars!

What up Carlover!

#1: More cars in GT2 would mean less available memory and even worse graphix!

#2: uh...I don't even understand this one.

#3: YES! I think the entire GAME should be broken up into levels like this.

#4: Err...okay.

Mom's ideas:

#1: it's called GT4!

#2: The Z3 goes without saying, but the Plymouth Voyager???? :)

Race inanimate objects? (I assume that's what you meant)
Like, how?
1) 5 other racers pull up to the starting grid. With great difficulty, you lug a largeish rock onto the couse and plunk it down on your assigned starting position. Everybody looks at you strangely. You stick a key into a crack in the rock and twist it, the key breaks off. All the other racers are looking at you, you stare back confidently. They wonder why the race officials aren't doing anything. You sit down on the rock and wait for the flag. The flag drops and the rest of the racers take off. You sit on the rock and stare intently at the apex to turn one.
2) There's a rock sitting at the starting line. You look over at the rock and rev your engine, mouthing 'you're goin' down buddy.'
The flag drops and you hammer the gas and peel out. The rock sits there. You look in your rearview mirror and laugh. That rock got owned!

I guess cars are inanimate objects as well, so you already can race them. Please clarify, I really have no idea what you mean and it's bothering me.

What I Mean Is Replace A Mazda Miata Body With A Rock, etc. The Name Would Be: [R] Rock, [R] Log, etc.

For the last 3 posts.....uh....yeah...

Body kit authenticity!! If you are going to make it look like a Sunoco Camaro, make it a Sunoco Camaro!

More Body kit choices

Musclecars that make sense. A 426 Hemi and 3 speed does not fly.

More engine notes. I hate it when a Superbird, a Stratos, a SR Widebody, and my Cerbera sound the same. :banghead:

Graphics and AI are, of course, a must.

Buy the same wheel design for the whole garage, just like GT3.

Motorsportsland in Sim mode, and a Laguna Seca reverse.

I think that covers it.

GT2 would be perfect (IMO), if it had the following things:
Odometers (only without the performance degrading)
Larger Garage Size (1000 like GT4 would rock)
Improved Graphics
Less Glitches like the Machine Test Glitch, etc.

Actually, real-life muscle cars often had only 3 speeds...4 speed trannys were an option sometimes. Many of them were only made to do ¼ mile runs, after all. The gear ratios is one detail GT2 got right.

I totally agree about the engine sounds. I swear that the soundbyte of the GT1 TVRs came from a 6-cylinder, not a V8. GT2 is full of wimpy-sounding cars and it seems as tho they didn't truly sample all 600 odd cars in the game.

I remember racing a Dodge Challenger with all the hp mods and a stock transmission. 1st and 2nd were normal and 3rd was loooooooooong. It was like I had a normal transmission and skipped 2 gears.

I actually wouldnt want more american cars.. I loved the first GT cuz it focus mainly around japanese sports cars and auto cross.. if you want american muscle and drag, then go buy an NHRA game or somethin.

I would bring back how the dealers had thier own songs. more trance music. and I think the racing campiegns *where you had 3 races to beat to win the whole shebang* was cool. I love skylines and silvias, they should put older models tho.. I just not a fan of all teh subarus, not much difference between a 93 and 95 wrx sti or not to me.

but number 1 remake would be the AI cars drooning engines.. they all sound the same.. but I guess they cant do that much on the old ps1.. would be cool if they would re-release the old games for ps2..

Hypertek
would be cool if they would re-release the old games for ps2..
Now that is an interesting concept, but would people be willing to buy the same game for more money?
