Re: That gold dragster

I'm not sure if they had the same thing in mind, but the McLaren F1 had gold foil as a heat shield in it's engine compartment

Which apparently was used to great effect

That is amazingly awesome. No wonder it was so dang expensive, It was covered in gold!

I don't think that's what they had in mind for the dragster though...

I wonder with the economy how it is if any mclaren owners have thought about pawning that heat shielding... What with the price of gold these days...

dont know how in heck I got myself to find this car as everything surrounding it is in japanse and I can't understand crap, but I somehow found picz. Hope it's not a repost.

That Silvia is one of the best looking Silvias I've ever seen, and I'm not big on Silvias.

Wouldn't do them or the car any good in the long run....

Exactly. I suspect the McLaren is one of those things that's worth more than the sum of it's parts...

Edit: Just the one pic:

The colour is RAF blue, for anyone interested.

Probably much more, as the McLaren is worth around 2 million dollars secondhand last I heard (or much more if it's in mint condition)... removing probably a few hundred dollars worth of gold leaf isn't worth ruining a car that expensive for.

Awesome Miata... are those 16" steelies or 15"?

If they're the standard ones from the base Eunos, which I think they are, then they're only 14". The project thread I found the car in had a few more photos but no more full-car shots. Those steelies have been banded now :)

Considering finding some MX5 14" steelies myself for fitting winter tyres to.

I keep forgetting how ridiculously big wheels are now.

The wheels on our Focus are 16". They look like 14's on a 90's car, given the amount of rubber they have on them.

The 16's on my 2003 car look like 15's on a 90's car.

16's on that Miata would look ginormous.

fixed. ;)
Exactly.
This is the way I'd do a Sylvia were I ever to own one.
One of the cleanest renditions of a great road car I've seen on a Sylvia.
Nice pictures Cano, very nice.

Well, that & the fact that the car required significant insulation in it, so that's what the gold is for. Take it out & the car would start suffering from it eventually. There's only 25 grams of gold in the car, & I think that's only worth $2-300 at the minimum according to the estimate calculator I used & I imagine to install new foil would run in the thousands.

Edit* I wantz 240 now.

As far as I'm concerned this:

Who lets these idiots attempt wheel fitment? That TSX looks god awful, like something you'd find in the trailer park down the street.

The wheels poke too much, the tires are stretched too much, they're not even remotely close to fitting under the fenders, they don't even follow the body lines, just miserable fail. Just because you've got the money to do it doesn't mean you should. These people need to be cut off from the wheel fitment game lol.

EDIT: Another example with the same wheels. First of all these wheels don't look very good to begin with. Second of all...

Just...omg.

Wouldn't that just 🤬 you? Rocking up in a car park in your "uniquely modified" MR2 and only to find an identical one.

Side note, I realise the 2 drivers probably know each other and did that on purpose.

Talking about Japanese trucks... I've always wanted a Hardbody for some reason.

My new roommate has a '93 D21... 5 speed, no power steering, no power anything... I had to make a beer run in it the other night and couldn't believe how much fun it was to drive. I've never been into trucks, but if I ever needed something small, I'd go for one in a heartbeat.
