Imagine what car culture will be like 10 years from now. I'd imagine that most of the things that people think are cool now will look very stupid by then.

This was only the case in the US where there was never much of a "trickle down" of technology from the motorsports scene. You look back at car tuning in Japan 12+ years ago and there was actually less of a "ricer" scene than there is today since the only people who were really into cars were the die-hard enthusiasts. They tuned their cars with performance parts which, by association, look awesome. Not parts that are made to look "cool." That didn't even exist in Japan at the time

So when modifying cars began to get popular here, companies began selling the "look cool" parts. Eventually, more and more US tuners began poping up and manufacturing decent performance parts through R&D etc...

10 years from now we will look back at the awesome cars of today with their awesome parts and still think they're awesome in the same way that we still think that all the famous cars of the 90s from Japan are still awesome.

Think about your parents.. What comes and goes, their muscle car loving days of the 60s and 70s are still alive and well in their minds. The styles are still the same

Main reason why so much people rice out their cars, is becaus they care too much about others. Everybody has to think they're the shizzle, so they need dem fake shizzle parts so we think dem are dem shizzle y0 fo sho. And becaus they want to look cool, they are not being themselfs (read: fake), so they drive fake cars. How many people drive riced out cars just to be cool? There are not many people driving these over the top cars becaus they love it, but becaus they think others love it and earn respect by doing so.

I see what you're saying, but what I was getting at was that many of the current trends will probably look pretty dumb in the future. i.e. Hellaflush and the like. I'd be really surprised if a slammed mk3 Jetta with a rusted hood, a roof rack, and rolling on C4 sawblades will still be a popular look in 10 years or so. Ignore the fact that the entire Jetta will probably have actual rust all over by then

Disagree. The styles aren't the same. Have you seen any of the things that people did to muscle cars in the 1970's? Keystone slotted mags with big 'n little tires, Lakewood traction bars and paneled paint jobs are NOT cool anymore. Factory looking muscle cars are timeless, but period modifications are not.

Although I agree that most of the trends will come and go, one that will probably stay for a while is the HellaFlush thing. Remember that HF is not new. People in Japan have been fitting the widest wheel/tire combo on their cars for a while. Although the final trend here varies slightly from the original intent, the fact is that cars look better with a proper set of wheels and tires. Whether it be track flush or HellaFlush. But yeah, other trends such as the rusted hood thing are sure to vanish as quickly as it appeared. That's what trends are.

For example...

I'm confused by that front wheel. The wheel is cambered, but the tyre seems straight...

Plus the wheel's reflection is of outside whilst the car and the reflection off the body work would appear to be inside...

......

Tuning cars for show and shine exist for a lot of years.
In Germany it started mainstream in the 80's with Rieger and Zender and the fan flame wars between Opel and VW

Agreed. Fashionable mods will have changed by then and the current ones will look pretty stupid, but modifications for speed will still look as awesome as they do now.

What's the phrase again? Fashion is fleeting but style is eternal?

Day-um. Best NC I've seen by a long shot. Stance... colour... wheels... I think I want an NC now...

Second edit is better than the first one above. Eunos Cosmo's edit took away the car's true colour so doesn't work very well.

Even the second edit is a bit lacking - not enough contrast, and the colours have been dulled by bringing down the exposure.

I should've been more specific but I was refering more to the "aggressive" ill-fitting body kits and wheels you see here in the states. Although even with that, it did exist to some extent in Japan i.e. Abflug Supra and Velside Skyline. The difference in that was that the people people here were trying to copy the tuning scene with the "look cool" parts and not the show scene.
