If you plan on buying that long of a cable then i´d suggest paying more.

Under 3.5-4ft it doesn´t matter because the length is so short but longer cheaper cables will work less good then a more premium one FYI.

By "scammed" I mean don't pay 60 or so for a cheap cable at walmart just becuase you might not know any better. Plenty of cheaper options, including the website I listed above
 
Anybody know what the best mini DVI to HDMI would be? Finally got a TV here in Japan and need to move half of my screen to it. Since apple doesn't directly make a mini DVI to HDMI I have to look at non major brands.

Amazon would be preferred.

It's also been proven that it doesn't matter several times also. I have seen some pretty heated battles on the Audio Video forums, about HDMI, optical, and speaker wire prices and quality. I always just buy the cheapest I can find. Sometimes it has been 60$ 3 foot HDMI cables and other times it has been 5$ 10 foot cables online. I honestly don't even pay attention to which ones I'm using. I just grab the one that is the best length, and go with it. I have never been able to tell a difference with sound, or video. The only problem I have had with a few really cheap cables is the build quality. A few have came apart on the ends pretty easy.

I would also like to second the monoprice link. Quality made cables and a great price.

Got my laptop running Atlas and all networked up to my iRacing computer so I should be able to view telemetry almost live. Now I just need to figure how to use Atlas and put it to use.

Well with my setup I can't tell the difference and so for what is a, very slight upgrade why pay $50 more? Just my opinion.
 
I ended up with a 10 ft because fredmeyer only had one 8ft hdmi for the same price as the 10 ft but it had ethernet, insulation looked about the same (that is if the cable gets thicker the more insulation) and it was 20% off, but I'm only going to use it for FSX and iRacing..... (when I get it which will be very soon now that I have a setup). I don't think I'd notice a difference between the 8 ft and the 10 ft.

I would just use the original mac mini dvi to standard dvi, then pick up a standard dvi to hdmi cord.

The only time you need to worry about the hdmi cable, and how much you pay for it, is if you need one that is 8 or so meters long, or around 26 feet, where signal attenuation starts to play a role.

That´s not true, there´s not a time where it doesn´t matter "several" times.
I already said where it doesn´t matter. Short cables under 4 ft you can get away with low quality cables.
But longer distances is where a high quality cable will always provide the best image.

To the person who was going to to buy one,

1. I don´t work for an electric company.
2. I don´t work for a high end company that makes HDMI cables.
3. I don´t make any money if you buy a better quality cable.

I´m just giving you some tips, it´s up to you to choose what quality and life length you want out of this cable, you get what you pay for.
The cable i have at home is under 4ft so that cable is a very cheap one. If i needed a bigger one i would have look in the slightly premium section to get the best possible experience.

Do you have two cables that are above 6ft and different quality brands?

(should also be over 6ft that quality comes into play, not 4ft, the Ft confused me.
 
I have a cheap two meter cable, and a friend bought an expensive monster cable of the same length. There is no difference in picture quality between the two.

Hdmi cables send a digital signal, meaning that there are only two states it can be in on or off. Unless the on signal, I think one volt, is attenuated to the point that the tv thinks it is off then the cable makes no difference, assuming it is a hdmi cable.

I guess your eyes can´t see it. Like i said, it´s been proven many times.
It´s not a fiber optic cable, there´s losses in HDMI cables.
 
Yes, but if it becomes that attenuated the difference will be very noticeable.

Also if the cable is certified as a hdmi 1.3 cable then it meets the necessarily compliance test and you wont even need to worry about signal attenuation affecting the picture quality.

Yes I do. We did comparison tests on my girlfriend's 42 inch 1080p with a blu-ray. I bought the cables as I said dirt cheap. My girlfriend had a $70 monster cable included with her TV when she bought it. You literally couldn't tell which. So far I'm at a $120 savings but I hope you really believe in those cables to spend that extra money.

That was my next thought after I got iRaceDash working on both my phone and tablet but you would have to write a whole new telemetry program for mobile platforms and im not sure it would be worth the effort or time.
It is pretty sweet having this stuff available in session though. Makes it a much more valuable tool now. Also got my mic working finally so I can talk to other people in session.

It's an app for Android OS that displays realtime rpm, mph, water temp (whatever is on that specific cars dash). Kinda useless if you ask me.

Since I use such a small monitor it helps me by having info such as gear and lap nice and big for me to read easily although with a triple screen or a big enough screen I can see where people who find it useless.

Damn yeah mine is a 19 inch but I used to use a 37 inch tv when I first started. Oh how I miss those days.
 
How are people blipping the throttle with the brake pressed? Have seen many videos with the clutchless downshifting and they are hard on the brakes while blipping throttle to downshift without the clutch. Is it just the particular pedals they're using? When I try to blip throttle while braking the brake gets released even though my foot is pressing the brake down. Starting to really enjoy ripping through the gears in the Mustang, but is hard to downshift without blipping throttle when not using clutch. Heel/toe for me is not an option. I'm terrible at it, but the G25 pedals how they are don't help me either. I'll have to make a custom pedal set-up to do it right. Anyway just wondering.
