Some week 13 news:

Highlights include Bathurst and the Nationwide Mustang being in the new build, and NTMv5 confirmed in the build for the Legends Coupe, Spec Racer Ford, MX-5 Cup, and Pontiac Solstice.

Week 13 is upon us. Again. As always, it’s one last chance for iRacers from Rookie to Class B to move up to the next rung of the license ladder in time for 2013 Season 4 . . . and for Rookies to Pro iRacers to have a lot of fun.

With a little help from our friend and NHRA superstar Ron Capps, we introduced a new official series - the Celebrity Challenge – last time around. This time we asked IndyCar stud and all ‘round good guy Justin Wilson to concoct his two ultimate track/car combinations. His choices? The IndyCar Dallaras on The Milwaukee Mile for the oval series and a road course series featuring the Lotus 49 at Watkins Glen (Historic Boot). Just a coincidence, but Justin scored Dale Coyne Racing’s first IndyCar win at the Glen . . .

“While I wish I was better at driving the 49 I still love it,” he says. “It’s a great looking car and an iconic piece of motorsport history. I love trying to drift and float this around the track. I chose Watkins Glen for many reasons. The first is the faster open corners that suit the Lotus. Second is the feeling of satisfaction when you get a few corners right . . . Oh and I have good memories of racing at the Glen ;-)

“I love Milwaukee as it’s so rewarding when you get the car to turn. It races well too, so I thought it would be fun. I ran a few different cars before I decided to go back to the IndyCar. It’s just fun around there.”

The winner of each series will receive $50 in iRacing credits. To insure an even distribution of points, zig-zag iRating driver distribution will be in force and -- to give non-aliens a chance at the prizes -- drivers holding Pro and WDC licenses during the 13th week are not eligible for the series.

We’ll have some other official series including the Week 13 Street Stock Challenge and Legends Road Racing series. The Street Stock schedule includes Charlotte (both the Legends and the 1.5 mile ovals), Lanier, Oxford Plains, Thompson, South Boston and USA International. The Legends cars will be racing at Charlotte (road), Laguna Seca, Lime Rock, Okayama (long and short) and Summit Point (Jefferson Reverse) . . . on the NTMv5 once the new build is released.

Safety Ratings and iRatings are in effect in the official series, giving competitors a final opportunity to boost their license ratings before promotions for Season 4 are finalized at week’s end. Likewise, rookies who have yet to complete the category-specific minimum participation requirements for graduation to a D license (two official races or four time trials in each category) can do so in Week 13.

The week’s unofficial competition includes the ever-popular Carburetor Cup with the Gen6 Chevies and Fords at Talladega and -- once the new build goes live – three 24 Hours of Fun series featuring the cool new content. One series features the V8 Supercars at Bathurst, while another will pit the Nationwide Impala and Mustangs against each other Iowa Speedway. We’ll also have one multi-class series with 54 car fields of the SpecRacer Ford, Mazda MX5 Cup and Pontiac Solstice . . . all on the NTMv5 at Bathurst.

Now that ought to break-in Mt. Panorama nicely for Season 4.

Looks much better that the last week 13, that's for sure.

But in real life, drivers don't have to have a certain "safety rating" to race certain cars. Heck if you have enough money, you can race anything you want. I'm all for safety rating don't get me wrong, but I think cautions provide drivers with a chance to relax and get some closer racing at the end

Right. I think people might be overthinking this, it's not like a full course caution would come out on every crash, unless it's somewhere like Long Beach or some areas of Bathurst. Just when a car is disabled on the racing line or some other bad spot.

This could bunch up the field and allow more exciting racing for everyone.

Bathurst in this build?! Haven't been on iRacing in ages, my subscription even run out. Can't wait to give Bathurst a run though

don't think so magic_town. there has been pics and video of it in use. but no info about it being in this build and with it only a week away i just don't see them "surprising" us with it.

It's listed in the Week 13 schedule. According to the post a few posts above.

I'm a little disappointed in the cars they gave NTMV5 this season. Apart from the MX-5 not exactly the most attractive cars out there... I really wanted the DP to be one of them.

They clearly wanted to wrap up getting the NTM5 on the rookie cars first and foremost. I'm also disappointed that there are no new cars this build (the Mustang is just a tweak to fit it into the Nationwide series, not an entirely new car).

I assume the mustang is for the current gen Class B? Rather than the older chassis nationwide car?

yes similar to the ford and Chevy models in the A class NASCAR series. and thank you for the correction up above! Bathurst will be purchased ASAP

We don't really know which cars will be getting NTMv5 besides the ones mentioned in week 13 do we? The skippy schedule looks great this season so I'll probably stick with the skippy.

Well, people have been mentioning that only 7 cars will have the NTM5 this coming season and in the news 5 cars were mentioned (Street Racer, Legends, MX5, the Spec Racer Ford and the Solstice).

Not sure if the news post indicates that only those 5 cars will be updated or if we still have 2 more to be updated. I don't like this Rookie and D car preference approach.

the old "NTM" took a while to get everywhere. shoot the mustang and the V8 supercar took forever if im not mistaken. i wouldnt expect this to be a very quick turn around on cars.

Been having a lot of fun at Daytona in the class B car this week. Just finished a race where I was in 3rd but, my connection crashed :( I've never had that happen to me in 3 years of service. Ended up losing about 40 iRating thanks to it. Which is so hard to get up on Superspeedways.

Does iRacing still give the buy 3 items, get a discount bonus away? Considering buying Bathurst, Ford Gen 6, and Homestead.

My expectations were quite reasonable in my opinion. I only expected 2 or 3 cars to get it. What I didn't expect was that they'd be focusing mostly on Rookie / D cars. The only cars that have it outside R / D are the FW31 and the Lotus (because it just came out). I don't do ovals, but from my understanding the Street Racer and the Legends are both Rookie too. Why not mix it up?

Indeed, in the online world we have the problem that people are not worried about being injured and they also have some level of anonymity. They are not at a track where they have to be accountable for their actions.
So we have to have systems that help encourage cleaner racing and "safer" driving.

Yet another difference which means we can never have (and should never want) a 100% true to reality simulation. There are always going to be compromises because we are here to have fun principally, with a view to being realistic but only to a point.

While iRacing is principally focused on realism, fair and fun racing is also a factor. Sometimes there are compromises.

That being said, racing licenses do exist in real life. You can earn penalty points on your racing license and you can be banned from events.
You also cannot "drive anything you want with the money". In order to earn FIA National B, National A, International A,etc licenses, you have to satisfy certain criteria including taking part in races, taking fitness tests and driving cleanly.

The most famous license out there (FIA Superlicense) requires you at least run 300km of F1 testing to earn it and even then its up to the FIA whether they actually allow you to have it.

A rookie road car needed to get the new tire so the MX5 makes sense. From what I've heard it is easier to develop the tire for similar cars so I guess the Solstice and SRF make sense. I was hoping that the Indy car or McLaren were going to get it.

When you say Street Racer you mean Street Stock, right? That was given the NTM5 right off the bat, wasn't it? I have a feeling the preference for the rookie cars is because it is part of a focus on drawing new subscribers (and getting them hooked).

Sorry, I meant the Street Stock. I guess it does make sense to have the newer tire model on Rookie cars to attract and retain new members. Still, it would've been nice if another higher level car was included as well. I mean, the Skippy (if you haven't driven it yet do it) is just brilliant and a pleasure to drive with the NTM. I'm not yet proficient enough to drive the FW31, so imagine having the NTM on the DP, SM or even the HPD? Awesome.

Anyways, I still love iRacing, so don't take it as a full-on complaint. :)

Thanks to a Russian 17 Year Old Trying to get into F1 next year, the SuperLicense rules will be changed next season. You have to run one practice session on every Friday of the season and all of the Young Drivers Tests to earn the SuperLicense. Talks of there being a special Friday Session for this. From Next season FIA WEC will be moved to a FIA International A Grade License to give the FIA A an actual purpose.

Prior to this, not only was it 300Kmh plus but, you had to finish 4 races in the top 3 or finish in the top 5 in points for a season in a FIA International B License Race series.

No, actually you could/can still get the license just with 300km of testing but it was then up to the FIA to grant special approval.

The driver must also satisfy at least one of the following

previous year.
c) have been classified, within the previous 2 years, in the first

- The principal national F3 championships of: Great Britain,
Italy, Japan, Spain
- World Series F/Renault V6
N.B.: the title of Champion is considered valid for 12 months from
the last race of the relevant series or championship season.
f) be judged by the FIA to have consistently demonstrated
outstanding ability in single-seater formula cars, but with no
opportunity to qualify under any of c) to e) above. In this case
the F1 team concerned must show that the applicant has driven
at least 300 km in a current Formula One car consistently at

It must be an unofficial rule because, when I was having talks over my potential route to Formula 1, they kept reiterating that it is near impossible without good finishes.

Surprised nobody has jumped on my link yet... here it is again...

Tony Gardner apparently mentioned it somewhere as well!

Well..its there in the FIA regulations so unless someone is working at the FIA or is a driver that has gone through this process I'm not sure we're going to get any more detail than that.

Anyway, the point was that there is a form of "Safety Rating" in reality, even though its slightly different.

This new "Road Warrior" series looks awesome!

A new race with a different car/track combo every few weeks (with some exceptions) with 20 races over a one year period. Amazing!

I think I'll consider whoever wins that series the true best all-around driver in iRacing.

That's an awesome concept, love the idea but hate that the Global Challenge races are so short...
And hell yeah on the BMW!!

No, I'm right there with ya. I have no interest in the rookie cars (anymore) either. I'm really glad that the Skippy has the NTM5 since that is the road car I plan to concentrate on next. But I would love to see it on the prototypes too since I am hoping to drive them someday. I'm confident the prototypes will have the new tire model by the time I get around to driving them.

For the oval side, the NTM5 really needs to go on the Gen6 cars and maybe the trucks next, though I'd like to have it on the Monte Carlo and National Impala since those are the oval cars I'll probably be driving for some time to come.

They have other plans for the Riley, guess they won't update the tires on that car. It was supposed to get new physics a couple of seasons ago and it never happened, my guess is they plan to update the car to best represent the USCR DPs...?

Does our DP even currently run in any real races? I thought the model was phased out for the new one.

I think the Road Warrior series is going to be my only series from January on, other than my usual Indy Oval fixed. I love the idea of being able to race so many different cars and that means I only have to schedule time for a race every 2.5 weeks (on average) which works great for my school/family/work schedule.
