I renewed the other day for another year and with the money I saved on the deal I bought leon (turbo-lag) 3 months for the price of one as well. That was the deal I initially started on.

Mad, I really need advice with the V8 cause i'm desperate. What's the secret with that car? I'm always spinning out, locking brakes (locks around 60%???) and so on... IMO, the V8 is the hardest to drive. Man, please, tell me, how do you do?

Man I'm with you on that Tat! That car is HARD!!!
I got some setups from TeamShark, but God is it difficult to drive fast!! They need to give it a big grip improvement for the NTM!!!

I´m not as fast as Mad in the V8 but there are some basic stuff for the V8 like,

Always brake in a straight line, if you turn slightly you will lock the inside wheel which is not very good in the race. In Q it´s ok since you only do short stints.
Brake early, it´s a tank this car :)
Be smooth with throttle input. If you enter a corner and apply 10% throttle you can feel the car turning much better, i think the key is to pretty much always stay 10% on the gas in turns to keep the car in the right direction.

It has a locked diff so the rear wheels have the same speed at all times, hence the boat like feel of the car.

And short shift in some corners, it´s better then unsettling the car in second and then mash in third. Better to snatch in third earlier so you can put down all of the power and use the torque of the engine.

Just always keep in mind the weight of the thing, easy to forget and that´s when you run out of road etc :)

Sorry for the double post, i know Rudi will hang me now but i don´t care because i come with presents ;)

We have an "alien" on our swedish forum and i´m sure Mad knows who he is. Roland Ehnström. Ran the V8 PRO series and other stuff.
Mostly in the Top5 WR´s aswell.

He released his setups in 2010 after Season 3 on the iR forum. They are good setups and easy to drive. Very soft suspension because it provides the most amount of grip according to him. So the car can feel abit sluggish.

Disclaimer: I am certainly no expert on how to set this specific car up. The 14 races I've driven this season are the only 14 races I've ever done in the V8 Supercar. The philosophy behind these setups is taken from my previous experience with GT cars, especially from GTR/GTR2.

All setups have soft suspension: Soft springs and soft roll bars, this is to maximize grip. It comes at the expence of control, but for me it is worth it. I'll take grip over anything, any day of the week. At some tracks (like Lime Rock) I had to stiffen up the springs a little and raise the ride-height in order not to bottom out in the wrong places, but roll bars are always soft, especially at the front.

Cross weight (except in the setups from early this season when I didn't fully understand the concept) is around 47%, in order to get rid of the problem of oversteer in right handers and understeer in left-handers. At some tracks I run more like 48%, because I want the car to turn better to the right, while at others it's the other way around. But 47% is a good baseline I think.

Since Laguna Seca onwards I am running quite a lot of rear toe-in. I noticed this helps in getting the power down in this car, possibly at the expence of a little higher tire wear (in the races I was always faster in the beginning than in the end compared to the opposition).

I have often been using the Watts Linkage to find the right balance, especially on the entry of the corners (at the exits I feel rear roll bar makes a bigger difference).

Camber at the front is around -5 degrees, rear -3, to make the inside of the tires around 5 degrees (Celsius) hotter than the outside. I am often using slightly more camber on the left than on the right, at tracks with a majority of right-hand bends.

Tire pressures are set up to keep the middle temp between the outside and inside temps. At tracks with many right-handers, this means higher pressure in the left hand tires, and vice-versa.

I have not played with the dampers at all, partly because I don't fully understand them, but mostly because I seldom feel they make much of a difference anyway.

Brake bias is set up for my driving style, which involves using a little bit of throttle under braking to stabilize the car. Also, locking up the fronts cause a huge amount of tire wear in this car, so I have been tending to set the brake bias pretty far to the rear. Sometimes also to help the car turn in. Depending on your driving style, you may want to go further forward with the brake bias.

I have left caster at 8 degrees all season. Don't know if it's the best setting, but using a lot of caster is usually a good thing, especially in cars that don't really want to turn. At Watkins Glen I used a little bit of caster-split (less caster on the right side) to help the car turn into the right-handers, don't know if it helped much though.

At Road America and Road Atlanta if I remember correctly, you will notice that the car hits the rev limiter at the end of the longest straight. It's meant to do that, using a longer gear settings loses too much time in other places for me.

Generally the setups from later in the season are more developed than the early ones. Especially the VIR setup should be taken with a grain of salt, it was very much a shot in the dark.

That's it I think, feel free to ask if you have any questions!

Oh, the naming of the setups:

ViS = Virginia South
LiF = Lime Rock Full
RAm = Road America
SiN = Silverstone National
Lag = Laguna Seca
RAt = Road Atlanta
WaC = Watkins Glen Cup
BrI = Brands Hatch Indy
ZaN = Zandvoort National

Yeah, Roland is very fast. I raced closely with him in Season 3 in a few rounds but he just had my measure. He was very very very fast indeed. ;)

A few tips from me in the V8, listen to everything Hampus said, that is all truth. 👍

- If you're having trouble with rear brakes locking (which you may at first) run the bias at about 63% at first to get used to it. Braking deep is critical, start at 63% and work back from there. I still only use between 59% and 61% depending on the track.

- Brake earlier rather than later, the car does not stop but it doesn't like being driven hard into corners, you are better off using the slow in fast out method. Straight exits are the key and do not miss the apex because the car does understeer on entry quite a lot sometimes. It's a tough car, understeer, oversteer, understeer constantly. It's a never ending fight.

- In races don't push the car at the start because you can, if you do push hard at the start you will really suffer at the end. The tyre drop off is severe, between 2-3 seconds a lap at most tracks.

There a few tips from me, if you want anymore i'll try and think a bit harder to come up with some more technical ones. :lol:

:D

maybe Jordan will install one day a nice tool which we are using at GTRP now a long time. automerge for doublepost in 24h. ;)

and thanks for the setups. 👍 i was running the Falcon today some laps in a hosted session at Okayama. after some laps ~ 4 sec behind the WR. so much fun the car. :bowdown: and right, slow in, and best also slow out. :lol:

ah yes, i forgot. gratz Mad.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. :D :cheers:

Spose the next goal would be to join you in Pro Daniel... We'll see what happens, really not keen on waking up that early.

Hampus, I run my setups soft. I the idea for me is to generate as much grip as possible, so my V8 setups always tend to have a lot of body roll, but I know some of the other fast guys (Peter Read for eg) sets the car up at least twice as stiff as I do and goes just as fast. So it can be personal preference sometimes. 👍

I see thanks ;)
Hopefully the NTM just takes this car to a level it belongs in.
I´m pretty sure it will be one of the most popular cars in the sim once the treatment is done.

Congrats aswell Mad, must be lonely at the top, but it sure as hell aint crowded ;)

Im in love with the Street Stocks, so much fun! Just continuously joining the next race as they are every half hour.

Yea I had a blast last week 13 when I first joined. Though it made me depressed when I couldn't race a **** ton in a couple of hours after week 13 finished :(

Ok, I'm renewing my membership tonight so I can update the game files tomorrow (almost a year since I've left) and I'll be able to play it on thursday since I got the day off work. :D

Anyone else see the new trailer for the new content? It looks epic!

First off congrats on your Championship Madison! Very well deserved indeed! Second, are you planning on participating in any of the new multiclass races with the HPD ARX-01c and the Ford GT? Since you dominated the V8 series maybe it's time for a new challenge! :lol: :P

Oh this is getting good. I might receive my wheel on Thursday, which is when the Mazda's race if I'm correct. If it is, I may be within a real treat.
