I couldn't heel toe a few months ago either. I was in the mindset that it was WAYYY too hard for me to pick up on. However, a little later I tried again and forced myself to make it happen. Its really not that hard, infact, I tried to blip in the driving instructors car the other day because its pretty much natural now XD.

EDIT: And I do it with clutch. Left foot clutches, right foot brakes at first, and then angles over to the accelerator while braking, blips, lets off, brakes more and yeah. Done.

How are people blipping the throttle with the brake pressed? Have seen many videos with the clutchless downshifting and they are hard on the brakes while blipping throttle to downshift without the clutch. Is it just the particular pedals they're using? When I try to blip throttle while braking the brake gets released even though my foot is pressing the brake down. Starting to really enjoy ripping through the gears in the Mustang, but is hard to downshift without blipping throttle when not using clutch. Heel/toe for me is not an option. I'm terrible at it, but the G25 pedals how they are don't help me either. I'll have to make a custom pedal set-up to do it right. Anyway just wondering.

There is something wrong with your pedal calibration.
It's simple, left foot brake, right foot blip the throttle

Here´s what i do for the Corvette GT1,

Since Legendary said it does not take much practice to learn heel-and-toe, maybe it's time for me to change my DFGT for a G27?

Anybody knows how much time can be saved on a lap, say Silverstone in the Mustang, just because of the clutch? Or can someone explain how the button clutch works... I feel quite noob here but I couldn't get it to work properly!!

set shift aid to -> none
then calibrate your pedals again, and for clutch you just press a button, thats all.

you can still miss shift, but if you do it right (you need to blip while downshifting with the Mustang) it will be faster. don´t know, half a second at Silverstone?

:)

other cars like Star Mazda, GT, Vette etc you even don´t need any clutch, just bliping. :)

I would probably get a better graphics card. I had a Intel i7, 4 GB Ram and 1 GB graphics card (don't remember exact model off the top of my head) and it all ran well with highest settings. Only could achieve 170 FPS average and it dropped significantly on warm up laps and starts where there are many cars. I would suggest getting atleast 1.5 GB or higher.

My new computer has new Intel i7, 16 GB of ram, and 3 GB graphics card. Just waiting for it to come in the mail. Then I have to wait quite a long time for my steering wheel to come :[

Ok thank you I will try it again. And damn half a second is a lot!

As for the cars, I know many of them don't even need the clutch but for the cars I'm using (MX-5 and Mustang) it is useful and I could even battle (theoretically) for the overall pole!

Sounds like you have the "combine pedals" either turned on or your pedals are always combined. This wont allow both gas and brake inputs at the same time. For me it is an option when setting up the pedals outside the sim.

Ahhh, I'll have to check that out. That probably sounds like the issue. I wouldn't think the G25 pedals have to have the brake and throttle on the same axis which is what I think is going on.

This hasn't been an issue till now cause I just used the shifting aids while manually shifting.

Keep forgetting I'm on the pc not the ps3. Don't think I've touched the wheel settings outside the game. Doh:dunce:

Go and post that at the TT-R forum Tony. I personally have no idea, it would probably do the trick but Blair (supersonic88) would be able to shed more light on it for you. 👍

Alright, so I checked my settings in the Logitech profiler outside of iRacing. Sure enough my brake and throttle were combined on the same axis. Took a little digging around to find it, but all is well now.

Thanks Frizbe and everyone for the good info. Much easier to downshift without the clutch now.

Easily. The only reason I can tell you this is because my computer is probably three times worse than that yet I run 100fps on minimal graphics :P. I also run an X2.

I have been reading some things on the IRACING forum, and I noticed people are saying to dial back the ffb a little to help with the shutter of the wheel (which I will do next time I play).

One thing I still do not fully understand is the damping that they added, what does it do? I have mine set to about 20 right now.

The damping is the rate at which the wheel returns, it also seems to affect how hard it is to turn too. If it's set to 0 the wheel is super light and returns quickly as if it were on gt5 whereas 100 is super rock hard which makes it hard to control of you are sliding.

Before they added it I think my game was at around 62, or at least that's what it feels like to me. It's just right for me, doesn't return quickly but isn't hard to control.

I took Rudi's info on using the clutch and adapted it to my T500RS so I could use my clutch with the paddle shifters, and all I can say it wow is that hard! I got decent at upshifts but heal toe downshifts are very tough, especially since I've been left foot braking since I get my first wheel 7+ years ago.

I heal toe perfectly in real life but transitioning to right braking was a tough experience last night. It looks like I may not race this week just so I can really work on the proper technique and not risk hurting my safety rating or messing up someone else's race.

I can see the speed benefit so it will be good to put the time in to learn. Thanks for the tip Rudi Racer.

I have had the worst 3 races I've ever had this week. The first two I didn't make it through turn 2 without contact. In the second and third iRacing froze resulting in two dnfs. I've lost over 200 irating points in the process.

Same here, I have had to rethink racing in the GT cars for the time being. Gonna stick with the Star Mazdas and some of the slower stuff.

Same here! Lost a full SR point last week thank to others mistakes(stupid twitchy Fords!!) and a lot of IR!! Back to the Mustang and StarMazda SR rebuilding...

Much grippier, I love the Star Mazdas a lot. They can still spin out and lose traction in certain scenarios but generally its easier to get on the throttle and grip the corners. Beckets and Maggots are flat out in it.

Speaking of the SM's, got my first win of Week 3 in them at Silverstone, nice to win on my home track and was kinda cool as I was at Silverstone yesterday watching the Formula Renaults and world series cars!

I'll be running in a Skip Barber private league championship, the first race is tonight at Lime Rock. It's a championship meant for rookie drivers (only Rookie, Class D and Class C licenses' drivers allowed). Fixed setup too.

I was practicing last night and I think I got the hang of it. The Skip is pretty new to me as I just bought it for this tournament, and also because I was curious to try the NTM. At first I was spinning a lot, couldn't even do three clean laps in a row. It seems the secret to it is to brake early and keep your foot on the gas during corners. Managed to do a 59.288 @Lime Rock so far, with the baseline setup.

The race will be live streamed too if anyone here feels like watching, though the narration is in Portuguese. This is their website, the race will be at midnight GMT:

I saw they have a special on, buy 1 month get 2 free so I signed up last night. And to be honest, everything is pretty overwhelming with what I can and can't do :( I tried to do a race last night (Mazda Cup at Okayama Short) and all we did was do hotlapping, no starting race grid or lap count. I didn't know it was a race until the checkered flag came up. Anyway, is there some sort of license tests I can do to get used to the cars and tracks?

Thanks in advance.

Jerome - Northwest Division

You sure it was a race? Not qualifying or practice? They still show chequered flags to mark the session ending.
Theres no license tests no, some videos but they are not mandatory. Double check your joining a race session if you wanna race. There is usually a 5 minute warm-up before the cars go to grid.

I clicked on Race on the website and joined up, there were about 5 other drivers doing laps. I dunno, I'll try it again today and see what's what.

.......... so I signed up last night.

you did quali only. ;)

Yea, must have....If you have any advice RR, I'm all ears, haha.
