Quick question: I don't have iRacing (yet) but I was wondering if when you do skins If you have to have the series sponsor logos on the car or is it completely custom

Like with legends, there is the Federal tires logo on the side of the hood and the INEX Legend cars sticker behind the door IRL

It depends on the car, each car has some basic decals that will show trough but going off the top of my head I don't think they are sponsors...

Edit: 2 seasons ago the Mustang had Thrustmasters as a title sponsor and IIRC the Trustmaster(rear bumper) logo would always show trough any custom livery...

Ok, pretty much done. Let me know what you think:

:) Looking good Jav.

I have no idea really what is possible and what is not with this type of thing, I started investigating last night what was required and gave myself a headache :ouch:  I might just leave this to you good guys 💡

A question...How (when I have permission) do I use someone else's paint, I downloaded all the Skippy ones and have seen them on track but still only have the standard paints in the paint screen, do I have to 'activate' them or something ?
(Sorry I'm really new to this type of thing, I was strictly a console man until a few months ago)

Lol!! Don't worry I was in the exact same place a few months ago, I had no clue about anything! I still have no clue but can sound as if I do!
No, you don't activate them, they are in your folder and whenever you are on track with any of those users you will see the paint. If the users you are running with do not have Tradingpaints all you'll see is the default iRacing scheme.
Let me know if you want anything custom or changed on the skin, maybe your name or something like that! Otherwise it's ready for delivery!

When designing new paint schemes, do we have to keep within the outermost edge of the wire frame? Or is the mask the boundary?

This I've never really known. Trying to make a custom Skippy skin as I think I'm going to attempt a season in that series. I wish the templates could be slightly easier to determine which section is which!

The wire frame is your boundary. I agree with you, some of this templates are just a mess! Wait till you give the HPD a shot!

That'll do. I've always been aiming for the edge of the mask. Will make things a little but easier!

I found the HPD to be pretty simple compared to the FW31

My biggest problem with the HPD is lining up the layers on the airbox, this car was a big pain in the butt:

Like everything else once you've done it a few times it get's easier, but the first time i saw that template I was like holy crap! This car just exploded in my face!! I had no clue what went where and had to find out the hard way.

did you d/l the original iracing templates from the site? If you have photoshop that might be marked

Personally I just take a skin I like and put in my 'background'. I use that background to mark the sections and help me line up my art pieces. I think my last skin only took me a few mins or so to make. In any paint program, you can overlay the background image with your artwork. I've used this in paint.net & photoshop. While working in your layer you can adjust the opacity so you can see through it. When you're done, simply set your layer to 100% opacity to be certain the original bg doesnt bleed through or just hide the layer

Yeah I have the proper templates from iRacing. Use photoshop to make them, each panel is one so to speak. Settled with painting each part a different colour and loading it up in the sim to see what goes where.

Now knowing that the limit is the wire frame then I think I'll be able to 'select' each panel easier.

Oh cool, yeah that method will work well. It can be a little clunky. Wish we could hot-reload our textures while the sim is running or use some sort of model viewer

Me too. But of a pain to keep loading up the sim. A stand alone program to view it on a vehicle would be great. Especially if you could rotate and view it easily! (I know this is possible in the sim but still abit awkward!)

I dig it. I think it looks like a very realistic racing livery. You used up the space very well too with lots of logos

Hey in that f1 pack you put up- any idea who made that Incredibles skin? I was thinking bout trying to make an Incredible skin one of these days myself

I honestly don't remember, it was the first skin I ever got for iRacing.

This is my 1st attempt to add a skin. Here is a carbon fiber Riley DP. I've changed it to a gold chrome since but I don't have a pic of that yet.

PS. Does anyone know how to take screen shots in windows? I'm a mac user bootcamping into windows so I have no clue how to use windows to take a screen shot.

Thank you gents. The more I play with this, the more fun it becomes.

I think for my next skin i'll make the Ricky Bobby (panther/Me) color scheme. lol

Thanks for the Fraps suggestion. I just snapped a few shots of the Riley i'll be using for the 2.4.

Gold Chrome in iRacing? 👍

I'm not looking forward to practicing for the 2.4 hrs at Daytona. I love the track. But I still make too many mistakes on the track atm

Love the skin. Used a metalic shader or coat?

I was going to run in the skippy series next season, but after failing to make a custom skin I decided to redo my MX5 Roadster. This is, I would say, 90% final. There is just afew little tweaks I would like todo and maybe add another logo under the FIA and place one along side the bonnet sponsor.

Next season I think I'll now run in the GT:Cup to sample the multi class racing. Plus I'm familiar with the MX5 and would like to start learning some new tracks!

That's why i've been practicing about an hour a day, so I can do my best to last as long as I can w/o spinning. Should be interesting to say the least.

I didn't use shader or metallic coat, I do graphic design for a living (past 15years) and I am pretty versed when it comes to PS. Creating metal in PS is not that hard but getting it to show metallic in iRacing is a challenge. Silver chrome is a lot harder to mimic than other shades of chrome because of the reflection.

I have a really good livery I have been thinking of for the Mazda. Is there anyway non-members can create skins?

Hey guys, I want to make some skins for my MX-5. I already created one , but I don't know how to install it on iRacing to take some screenshots and see what I need to edit more. How do you put it on iRacing?

If you can get hold of the templates then you can make one. The only problem would be that you can't view it to check things out.

You have to save it as a .tga in the paint folder of the iRacing directory. It also has to be saved as your iRacing member number.

Posted via the app so sorry the info is abit vague.
