Is the Barracuda Back?

Rumor has it the Challenger and Charger are supposed to get 570hp. If that's the case, we can maybe expect to see the Barracuda this potent.

Ooooooohhhh... Oh, it's been done. :guilty:

I'm actually mildly excited. I bet it'll look great, and hopefully will shake off the Challenger reboot's relatively bad rep' as a driver's car, too.
The 'Cuda always was one of my favourites. (Probably because of the game Interstate '76; the player's car was cunningly named a (Dover-)Picard Piranha, or 'Ranha. Yes.)

On a totally unrelated note, I saw an advert or something on TV (UK) that had what looked (to my subconscious mind, channelling the vague recollection of some posters I used to have of modified muscle as a kid) like a Chevy Nova, but with an SS badge on it. Turns out I was right; I never knew they did an SS'd Nova, though, I bet it was interesting, assuming I'm right in thinking the Nova was a bit small for a muscle car? Is there an equivalent today? Bring it all back!

New concept pics came out on the October issue of Car and driver definitly not gonna be retro

The upcoming re-launch of the SRT Viper (formerly a Dodge Viper, of course) may be dominating the fast-Mopar coverage to date, but that super-coupe may turn out to represent just the tip of the iceberg. Automotive News is reporting that multiple Dodge performance products are likely to hit American streets over the next three years.

Perhaps most exciting are the prospective plans for the Challenger in 2014 and 2015. The muscular coupe is likely to get a significant bit smaller for the 2015 model year, with two or three inches set to be removed from its now-generous 116-inch wheelbase, as well as having launch control added to the specification sheet.

The upcoming SRT-tuned version of the Challenger, today the SRT8 model, may very well be dubbed the "Dodge Barracuda" for 2015. The resurrected 'Cuda will feature a supercharged 6.2-liter V8, which we are strongly in favor of. And though Dodge isn't offering up any output numbers for such a mill, current competitors from Ford (Shelby GT500) and Chevrolet (Camaro ZL1) would seem to indicate that 500 horsepower is the bare minimum for entry into this market slice.

In the nearer term, look for a new Daytona performance version of the Dodge Charger to appear in the first part of 2013, along with an SRT4 tune for the new Dodge Dart around the same time.

Now, where have I heard this idea before? Hmmmmmmm.

Yeah, they're not deleting the Challenger, they're gonna call the SRT version of the car "Barracuda."

Too bad I had to go find the quote in another SRT thread filled with someone saying that the Challenger was gonna get axed.

Too bad, "Dodge Challenger" >> "SRT Barracuda" (or SRT anything). Not doubt this will be a better car though. It would be hard to get worse, the only sure fire step backward would have been front wheel drive.

I was going to say that Chrysler might finally have a base Corvette fighter, but it's still way to heavy for that.

There's been something running around here that looks like a Challenger with hacked on parts and a bunch of camo pieces. I doubt it's a Barracuda, but it's probably a test mule for the next generation of the Challenger or at least it's platform. I wouldn't expect to see much on it for a little bit yet, Chrysler is going full steam ahead with the 200 and Liberty replacements.

Artist rendition

really tell that to the camaro, new vette, challanger, magnum, new acura nsx among other cars

The new vette has had some any crazy ass renders already. Artist interpretations are usually pretty silly, and it's just now showing that the the only one who really got it right was Jalopnik, but even then they said it wasn't an artist rendering, just them piecing together what they remembered seeing first hand. That above rendering is some goofball crap.

Are you sure you're not thinking of concepts?

Renderings are just whatever some artist things it might look like. There's nothing to even remotely suggest what the Barracuda will look like, even if it exists, which it might not. Yes there's a test mule floating around but it could just as easily be for the Challenger replace or it could just be testing some new tech.

Look this argument could go on forever lets cut it short and just agree to disagree

Yes, Joey. You have usage of a word that is correct, and he has a usage of a word that isn't correct.

Agree to disagree :D

Folks Know your Classic Car History... Maybe the Artist wasnt thinking about the Production Barracuda Design...Maybe he was thinking about the Many Concepts Chrysler done back in the day with the Barracuda....

Yeah, that's what I just specifically mentioned. It isn't an artist concept rendering, it's an artist redrawing what he actually saw. Implying for a moment that that drawing has anything to do with reality instead of fantasyland doodle drawings is absurd. It's almost as absurd as RocZX saying in the other thread that the Challenger was being killed and the Barracuda was replacing it as an SRT only model. Just because you read it in a magazine doesn't make it so. Just because someone draws a picture doesn't make it so.

So you saying that not to believe everything is 100% true when you read a article?

How is it that the article that I bring up is not true but the one you post is 100% correct and completely true? Explain that to me.

I wouldn't believe much in terms of speculation by a magazine. They just take rumors and run with it.

They more than likely aren't scrapping the Challenger though, the test mule that driving around right now makes me believe that.

Because one makes no business sense at all. The other is later down the line, backed up with some pictures, and acknowledges what Chrysler is doing with the SRT brand. At no point have I said that one was 100% correct, but one is definitely out of left field, and the other is more in line with the changes we know are coming in the SRT lineup.

The only pics yours has is of a 2011 Challenger SRT and it has nothing to do with the new model.
My articles both talked about other things the SRT brand is doing/ going to do.

.But then again those were old, how about a newer article saying that thier will be no more Challenger in the Dodge lineup .......
Just a few weeks back we presented the argument for keeping both in the product line, but the latest update from seems to indicate that the Barracuda will replace the Challenger. The decision likely won’t be based on sales, but rather on meeting ever-tightening CAFE requirements.
MotorAuthority

Yeah, sure. They'll just remove a decently selling car on a platform that's being developed well that will make no worse MPG ratings than the charger. Again, part of having critical thinking skills is knowing when something you're reading is stupid and out of left field, and when it might have some merit. The new article you linked has a lot of stuff that makes sense, but I find it weird that they'd want to rename the entire line after having just recently brought back the Challenger.

They are not Replacing the Challenger. They are only Replacing the SRT Challenger....

Maybe, there's nothing to really suggest that yet and my "insiders" at Chrysler have mentioned nothing to me about it while hanging out at the bar.

The camaro is not sports car.

The challenger is a good GT car, if you get the auto. That's about it. It's pretty slow, even the 392:scared:, the steering is pretty bad/dead/numb, brakes are crap.

Mustang isn't a muscle car.

The more I read of your posts the less I think you can legally drive in the US and the more I think you have a subscription to an auto-magazine telling you what to think.

The challenger has been one of the few cars of its type (cruiser, rwd, big engine) to be made in recent years and was never meant to be a lotus elise.

Also, the mustang is a muscle car.

Likewise, I've never seen a good GT that was better in Auto. Really? auto?
Street cred = way down. :indiff:
