Just Raced Under The New Algorithms and Rules

I think we have uncovered an exploit, for those who want to use it.

You don't want a max SR of 99. You want to be and SR-S, but a low SR-S, like 80-90. Then, you can get into the rooms populated with mostly much lower ranked drivers, thereby increasing your chances of a pole and a win.

All you need to do is give someone a little bump. Nothing big. Just take a few 2 second penalties here and there.

Maybe these "dirty drivers" that have been the bane of so many already realized this advantageous state of being. This update just made is a little easier for them. :banghead:

I got three wins today because of that 15 second penalty.

I just got an easy win after dropping to SR.A again from someone hitting the wall and bouncing back in front of me. 3 sec penalty and -8 SR from that in a further clean race.

I wonder if any people are intentionally trying to trigger the 50k DR point bug as well for dropping below a certain SR value. Another A/A driver in the room I was in exited as A/E. Checking his profile he was reset from 40k to 7K, a step too far. I hope he was trying to game the system and got his dues, otherwise, ouch. It was a dirty race in the back.

The logic is beyond me. Got a 3.078 sec penalty for snagging a blade of grass on Bathurst (downhill twisty bit), yet still got the clean race bonus at the end with +5 SR. It was another easy room with an S/S driver on pole I could not catch anyway, plenty of margin to the B's and D's behind.

So cleaner on Top Split Gr4 races just now in Asia Region. Track will roate in 1 hour in my localtime ( GMT +8 ). Did 5 races and no apparent divebombing, punt or intended tap. Just clean and competetive races.

I like new rules. Online races are much more clean now. Its obvious.

Absolutely, I went 4 races clean including 2 victories and a race midfield in Mount Panorama Race B.

I can understand the higher ranked frustration but as soon as they are ranked where they belong with the new rules that should stop.

BUT insert bunch of post-hoc analysis that renders the point of showing this moot, and as a central thesis present the assessment that it is your fault because "you are the master of your own race results".

The thing is, you can either constructively criticise your own race and try to improve, or you can continue to do what you do and not enjoy the game because you put yourself in a position to be taken out. I have been in the same position before, I have learnt from it, I don't suffer from it anymore.

Looks to me like you are master of your own race, mate. That's all on you, that is! /s

The difference between your video and sven was he had no time to react. He reacted to the first car slowing down, then the 2nd car did in front of him, he tried to thread the needle but clipped the car. He did everything right, in that moment, to avoid an incident.

Both cars received a penalty, and in regards to this thread, I don't think there should have been a penalty applied to either car. PD needs to relax these penalties that are derived from taps. If a tap results in an off or a spin, then yes, penalise. Otherwise let it slide.

So, another example of bad matchmaking.

I took a bad penalty for hitting a guy who stopped on the racing line to serve his penalty. I got bumped down to SR A. Then I end up in a room with D drivers.

This is what I am talking about. I get that my SR has been reduced, but lumping me in the D drivers all of a sudden can't be fun for everyone else, not when I usually race with A's and S's!
PD could stop giving away duplicants (cars), increase credits and xp in sport mode, decrease credit for ktm oval race, increase clean bonus, more people may race. More people in your rating (level). More fun. Buy cars u want.

Edit:Ppost#69 :D

Well this is weird. I just finished the Apline race at Alsace. Went from last to 2nd place, got the clean race bonus, but my SR went down 7 points. It's as if the game expected me to win and penalized me because I didn't. Oh well, I had fun. That's the most important part.

Edit: I raced again, last place to 2nd, with another clean race bonus plus fast lap. I lost 2 more SR points and lost 104 driver points. This has got to be a result of not qualifying. I can't think of anything else.

Mate i stuffed up at the mount still drA srA got put in a room with some mario fellow DrS srA. 6th fastest in Asia. I was in second 3 seconds behind...surely there couldve been a better match

That's the same guy that stopped in front of me. I agree, I can live with the penalties if everyone is equal, but this stopping to serve penalties is nonsense.

On another note regard matchmaking, I got a screen grab of my race. DR S to DR D!!! Regardless of penalties, this should not happen. You can't tell me that there are so few players out there right now that A and S driver NEED to be in the room with D drivers. Give the S rating less weight and group drivers by skill. Give more points for higher SR ratings instead. This kind of matchmaking is bad for everyone. How enjoyable can it be for the guys outside the top of the list?

If this is because of too few players, well, Houston we have a problem. Either way, it's no good.

Wow, miracles of matchmaking... yesterday I had 3 races in Bathurst, with best qualy laptime in 2:15.9 in the Jaguar, and whatever I tried could not start higher than p8, in a field full of DR C and D. The above shot lists mostly A and B drivers with pretty much not any faster times than players in my races. Btw, I guess I had been racing against Shelbygt500Brian the other day at Blue Moon :) he had a green Viper. Now as I am in Europe, so regions seem to have little effect on matchmaking?

You sure do have a great connection rate on that server.

I am sure all of the racers around you love that sawblade racing pattern you will be laying down on their screen from the lag with one connection bar.
Oh yeah, seeing a car in front of you do zig zag patterns and you start think yourself if that is a new tyre glitch? :D

Thanks for looking mate.👍

I'll try and put it in a nutshell. Pretty difficult for long winded people like me.:P

I agree with you about it not being a bug and even about it being a design choice. I like the no contact approach but I'm not in the top rank. I can see how as a lower rank driver such as myself could take advantage of it by giving them penalties and get away with it (too lenient for us) while being rewarded with DR points I shouldn't get through a less than clean move. Another scenario is a top rank driver using a smurf account and deliberately targeting another top drivers rank for easier races on their main account. Too many ways to exploit the new system.

They've cleaned up a lot of top drivers through fear of those penalties but PD seem to have forgotten that matching is often based on SR in the dailies. The top drivers are often seeing mixed ability grids based on the far too easy to achieve SR. Add an incident in that race and a top driver could plummet through the ranks through no real fault of their own. Too many lower ranks can get away with murder, either intentionally or unintentionally with the new system.

Looking at a lot of videos put up by the top drivers in DRA and S races, which all need gathering up if they want PD to look at them are showing some unjustified penalties for the driver in front. They've killed a lot of the close, generally clean racing.

I think I've covered everything...

To the top drivers complaining in this thread, make it easy on Tassie_tiger and PD by gathering up as many videos for evidence as you can in your own thread. PD will look at this 28 page thread but it'll take forever to glean the relevant info from it. Ask a mod if they'll keep an eye on it to keep it from turning as long winded as this one.

Edit: I forgot about people needing to scrub off penalties and causing chaos through choosing bad places to do it. For the strong, ever increasing penalties, I don't see how they can expect people to run them up even further while looking for a safe place to do it.
Sorry, and I hope you don't think I've chickened out, but I've decided against raising the "issue".

To be honest, I tried for some time to word it, but I always deleted what I typed.
And at the end of the day I feel I'm doing nothing more than pointing out the obvious.
Considering this is the most used thread on the biggest fan-site since the update (along with quite a few similar threads), it seems unlikely to me that a PD rep. or SONY rep. related to the game hasn't already noted the concerns.

Plus it's all over the shop.
Some like it, some hate it.
Some seem to prioritise their ratings over all else, some even refer to match-making.

Let's just say I think the concerns would have been already noted, and PD will take peoples reactions onboard, but I feel it's just wasting peoples time (while also making me look like a fool) to put forward any sort of report to basically point out something they are no doubt already aware of.

Sorry.

No worries mate. It should be me saying sorry for wasting your time.

I only brought your name up as the angst was strong early on in this thread and a couple of the example videos looked like they justified a complaint. The rest has been conjecture as there's been very little proof.

The best suggestion I can think of is for PD and all wheel makers to integrate a breathalyser into their peripherals. That would stop a lot of the nastiness and daft mistakes on track.:D

I have read every post in this 34 (!) pages topic and I still havent read any argument why there would be something wrong with the new penalty system. There are just some things that are still not perfect.

But most complaints seem to come from people coming from SB S and lowering their SB level. Sure in some/many cases it was not fair. But most cases it could well be from people who drove agressively to reach that SB S level thus not belonging there in the first place. They are hit hard, but this surely was PD’s intention.

SB S should be a top level for drivers who dont use any kind of contact or agression. Zero. If that means a lot of aliens are no alien anymore, so be it.

They can restart at the bottom and work themselves up again. Simple as that.

The only thing I see wrong with the system is that penalties grow - this causes people to slow in odd or spiteful places to serve penalties.

Penalties should not grow, and they should not be served anywhere except the pits or the finish line. The player should have the choice to serve a penalty when entering the pits.

Also, the same penalties should be in all DR ranks.

I agree with you about people finding their new level. Unfortunately, a lot of people didn't prove their case and only a few did with the 'barely any contact' penalties.

To be honest, I gave up at around page 10.

That to me is the biggest problem.👍

Not as they are now. Lower rank races would look more like car parks with everyone serving penalties.

just got a blue S rating on race B although i was slapped with a 3 sec penalty , i thought we couldnt afford any orange arrows or penalties

Getting a penalty and DR/SR minus points because someone hits you from behind is good enough argument.BTW its not a "new" system. Its the same but more strict for higher DR/SR classes. That means that lower skilled players get away with "dirty" moves (and gain rating by doing so) while the higher rating guys get punished even when they race as clean as possible.

PD has no idea of how to make a penalty/rating system work.Thats the only thing that is happening.

Being (or not) an alien has nothing to do with how a penalty/rating system works. It should be the same for everybody and as fair as possible.

@kilesa4568 haha yeh I wouldn't dream of giving them the current system lol, that would be a bed wetting nightmare.

If PD could get rid of the penalty growth, and remove the ability to serve penalties on track, then they should be getting learned on the top rank system.

It would be funny crossing the line in last place and finding you actually won the race.

Exactly. That would indeed solve most of the problems. If they stick to the ghosting however, than blinking before ending the ghosting would also help to recognize it.

With regard to the same penalties: when the ranks are equally matched it is not necessary. There just should be no contact at all in SB S. In SB A it should be less of a problem. So the driver can decide himself if he wants to rank up from A to S depending on his drive style. So different penalties is not really an issue. Mixed up ranks in races is.

Getting a penalty and DR/SR minus points because someone hits you from behind is good enough argument.
True. But getting minus points from being hit has been adressed mostly and seems not to be an issue anymore. What happens in the upper S ranks could be a cleaning method. We need to see in some time what the result is.

Sorry.

My only complaint/suggestion would be to if there could be made an actual effort in communicating with the community/players why they make these changes.

10. Sport Mode
 - The Sportsmanship Rating (SR) and penalty judgement algorithms have been improved;
 - In a collision between two cars, a penalty will now be added to the Driver Rating (DR) as well as incurring a Time Penalty depending on the situation;
 - If a driver continues to drive without complying with a certain amount of Time Penalty, additional time penalties will be added. (The additional penalty depends on the DR);
 - A driver may now be disqualified from a race if the number of collisions and shortcuts they accumulate becomes too great;
 - Cars over a lap behind will now be ghosted and will not be subject to collisions. (Only enabled in Sport mode);
 - It is now possible to submit grief reports for misconduct of other users.

And add something like this only better written:
We made these changes to enforce cleaner driving to prepare for the FIA season.
Some players will experience a big drop in DR ranking (depending on driving style)
DR rankings will take some time to adjust accordingly.
We will monitor the changes and correct them as needed.
The new tracks and penalties will be monitored and adjusted if needed.
As per Kjeldsens request a White Testarossa model Miami Vice will be added to everyone garage

We value your feedback, and will follow your reactions on social media #gtspatch113

Exactly ! It has been stated a couple of times in this thread already. Lack of communications is one of the biggest issues a long with the lack of “SB training/driving missions”.

I have also thought that PD is intend to rebalancing some dr points, but people can just find other way to adapt.

As seen from few posts, people can just play on their second account until there is some change. I do not agree that it is because their original dr point is overrated, the reason is just because hey do not want to risk huge lost because of the aggressiveness of others which may not 100% under your control. (Unfairness of the penalty apply on different rank).

I am not surprise to see more super fast dr E/D/C/B players these days, because it could be from aliens second account.

You seem to be forgetting that a lot of higher ranked guys used those same dirty moves on lower ranked guys. As clean as possible just doesn't cut it in my book. You're either clean or you're not. There's no middle ground.

You can be super aggressive and super clean at the same time.Top drivers are those that are fast and clean at the same time.BTW contact is going to happen no matter what. That does not mean that every single contact should be a penalty, especially when you get hit from another driver.

Speaking from experience, I've seen way too many supposedly super clean high DR drivers using super aggressive moves on lower rank drivers as they've got more to lose by finishing behind them. Justify that high ranking with slightly harsher penalties. You've earned both. Prove you can stay there.

Like I said earlier though. I've no idea where PD can find a middle ground to keep everyone happy. To be honest, I don't think there is a middle ground.

It would be funny crossing the line in last place and finding you actually won the race.

In terms of *gameplay* it would be annoying to be taking maybe an SR risk trying to overtake a slower driver in front of you *without* knowing he was going to server a 20sec penalty post race if you see what I mean. Also you're denied the enjoyment of crossing the line first, for example. I think you HAVE to serve it in the pits after every lap you incur one would be a good deterrent. If you miss pit entry you're DQ.

Rammers would soon get bored of going into the pits EVERY single lap and they would be off our racing line

I was thinking more so that you could serve it in the pits if a pitstop was required for the race (due to tire wear/fuel usage), not that people would choose to go in the pits to serve a penalty when a pitstop is not required to finish the race.

Edit - if people could see how many seconds penalty someone is carrying then it could encourage them to stop racing, if they haven't got their eyes on the next guy and the next guy.
I'm trying to think how the racing could remain core, but still have contact penalised.
