Went out to DKC this afternoon with a friend. Had a lot of fun! They actually wanted to put us in the higher level Karts after one of our races, only problem was the next race was an hour and a half later. Managed a 49 second lap, which put me in 2nd place for the past week. Overall I had more fun than imaginable. Nothing like the feeling of a Kart!

Rental karts? What engines?

Awesome!
I'd suggest joining a league there if you want to take karting seriously and you have the time/money.
Do one full season, see where you place then work from there.

Probably going to join a league towards the summer, that way I have more time on my hands. I definitely want to take this up, seems like a good opportunity to do something more, possibly along the lines of a career.

Good job man. They're not running the full course right now, right? Just the two halves at the same time I think. Were you racing in the cadet karts and they wanted to move you up to the full size rentals? (Just clarifying because they have the DD2 for rent as well)

You need to come to NTK and try the real karts!

Rental Sodi karts with the 4-stroke engines.

Again man, while the league racing will be a blast, nothing beats a real kart. I highly suggest taking one for a spin.

They were running the full course last week, however when we arrived they had already split it up. They put me and my friend in the Cadet karts. The man there said that since we were tall enough, if we could control the kart without spinning, we could move to the Adult rentals. Unfortunately the wait was too long. I saw that they had the DD2, do you unlock that with a 72.9 on the North Course in the Adult karts, or 72.9 on the full circuit?

Yes I do! That would be a blast!

72.9 in the adult karts on the full course.

That looks like it'd be pretty difficult. I wonder when they'll open the full course up again.

What was your best time of the day?
Remember that it was your first time in a go kart.

My best time of the day was a 49.xxx. That was on one of the split courses though. I don't think it would be extremely hard to hit a 72 second lap for the full course in the faster karts, but I'll have to really try.

Ok, i am having a tough time trying to start karting. I don't want to rush in and buy one. The closest track is pretty far, not so far that it is impossible to go, but far enough that i cant go rent karts everyday or weekend. I want to know if there are such leagues that supply a kart for you to drive. Obviously not GIVE u a free kart but one that everyone uses for a season.

I live an hour and a half's drive from the place I do indoors at and two hours from my home outdoor track.
The rental karts are what you need they're not racing karts, but they'll teach you the very basics.

I'm moving to Rotax Sr! I'm leaving Jr Max because my weight handicap was so bad and it couldnt be fixed. It was about 25 lbs over! I'm happy to contest the Sr class. I will get my ass kicked even more..............:D

So youre saying i should just do hot laps with a rental THEN buy a kart and join a league?

Think indeed it seems best that you see first if you can handle it (organisation, time, motivation). Then you invest and start the real work.

I think this advice greatly depends on the type of karts you can "rent." Around here, pole position raceway is great for having fun, but I don't think it can teach you anything about the dynamics of a real kart. We also have the dallas karting complex which is much closer to the likes of a real kart, but they're over weight and have no real grip, so again, you don't really know what you're experiencing in a real kart. I say go drive your options, decide if you want to do it, then get a real kart and start practicing. It's really cheap to get started.

And if you happen to live near our track in Texas, we have our real karts available for people to come try out so you can actually experience it first hand, that should really help you determine if you want to join or not.

I'll be heading over to NTK this weekend. My dad has a friend at work that wants me to try out one of their karts.

Haha, I've been trying to get you out there as well!

Which day are you going? I plan to be out there all day Saturday working on my shifter and yamaha.

Hey Crushed, you're in the Carolinas, right?

You should check out the WKA race in CMP that's coming up soon if you want to see REAL karts.

Possibly Saturday, most likely Sunday though.

Alright man, well next weekend is Winter Race 3, so you can come on out and check out all the racing! Qualifying starts at 1pm and we'll probably finish up around 5:30- 6:00 pm.
