Hi
I’m looking into starting karting in the UK.
I'm 13 and live in the south of England.
I took a 2 part course at Thruxton Kart Centre and was a couple of tenths slower than a guy that races TKM, and 8 tenths of the lap record. Is this good? I’ve been in a cart a couple of times and would really like to start.
If anyone knows where to start and what type of gear to get please respond.

Ah, Hampshire you are near me. I live in Lightwater (look it up on google maps). Blackbushe would probably be your nearest track, its where I used to race and where my avatar pic was taken. What is your budget because that would heavily effect what class's you could be looking at.

As of now I don't know.
I have a birthday in April and my parents said they would buy me the suit gloves boots and balaclava. the helmet i would haveto get myself. do you know anny good cheap ones?

The guy that run the cource recommended running in a championship that you turned up at the track used the tracks karts and raced that way. He said the prize was a years karting free, if I remember.

Ah, so you are thinking of doing arrive and drive karting. The place I think you may be talking about is http://www.club100.co.uk/ they use de tuned TKM engines however I don't know if they have a junior series.

For cheap helmets then I would advice either the DUCHINI 801 or the PRO V2. They both are £149 and are certified to the top UK standards for karting (snell2005)

You don't kart anymore?

Yeah I do race, just not at blackbushe, we have decided to go to different tracks around the country this year, not to compete in any championships just race at various club races. Rissington,Shennington,Whilton Mill.

Random update for Texas drivers, the Lone Star Grand Prix is this weekend and I've hard we have a huge turn-out. Anyone on the forums here racing as well?

I like the look of the PRO V2.
That championship doesnt have a junior series. He also said to race in the junior sprints held at thruxton. You dont need the race licence there.

I just found a karting track near where I live. If any of you want to check it out click this link - http://www.nauglespeedway.com/

And a question I would like to ask which is pretty much the point I posted this. What would be a good kart for the Jr. Box Stock class (if you checked out the track)?

Aren't those superkarts?
Which I believe are twice as fast, but twice as expensive, and half as popular?
In Pennsylvania, eh? Ever heard of Beaverun?

There's only 50 SuperKarts in the US really. And the guys that drive them are crazy.

Now i'm looking at Beaverun but half of the links and files (including the rules) are broken :grumpy:, so I can't find out what to do if I go there.

Track looks pretty sweet though (and it's near a town called Big Beaver ).

EDIT: Looked it up on Google Earth. It's in Butler, about an hour and a half away, maybe not even that. (So many jokes I could make about where this place is )

I just looked it up on google earth. The track looks fun.

It's available for rFactor. So I can confirm that it is VERY fun. :sly:

Never actually been there before though.
Not sure if they do club racing there.
Also, check out how far Oakland Valley Race Park and New Jersey Motorsports Park are from you. Those places I can recommend to you and I know what they do there. NJMP in particular.

EDIT: God dammit. Rain forecasted all weekend for South Carolina. Why am I not racing at CMP in the WKA this weekend!?!?!

I hope it gets converted to rF2. Have you downloaded La Conca for rF1? I did its fun. And Were you going to do TaG Sr for the WKA race?

Beaverun is an awesome track.
Its got some good elevation changes and lots of passing zones.

We just got our engines back from our builder and have been running them in, although my dad thinks that running one of those new, four prong, autolite spark plugs will give higher compression because the metal from the extra electrodes takes up more space in the head lol.

I think that early testing will get more than that ever will.

I guess I should update everyone on the LSGP that happened last weekend.

That was my first ever street race and I must say it was a blast! The track was a bit bumpy, but the layout was awesome and the organizers did an excellent job. I'll post a link to a few videos and hopefully in a few weeks I'll have my personal video posted online.

First two videos are of my buddy Andre going a bit too fast into this section causes quite a pile up:

Second video is a "intro" to the event:

I saw the layout. It looks awesome. But by your friends video, it looks like it doesn't go by any nice parts of the city. Is it just behind stores?

Hey guys, just got back from indoor Karting and thought I would share this.

After my miserable showing in Karts for GT Academy, wasn't sure what to expect tonight. Even my boss was confident he could beat me, and I was sure he would. Result:

Fastest in the first race with a 28.473
Fastest in the second race with a 27.654

That final time was also good enough to put my name 3rd fastest on the list out of everyone that visited there this week (missed 2nd by .009). And the points accumulated tonight are good for 15,552nd out of 1,461,380. (top 98.94%)

I should do this more often.

I go to K1 in Anaheim about once a week with my friends. I always finish on the top three. Mid to low 29s.

Bah. Indoor karting will get you nowhere now that you obviously know the basics.
It's a fun time with some buddies, but that's just about it.
Third fastest of the week isn't bad. The top two are most likely either people that work there or go there weekly.

This is just for fun, not looking for it to "get me anywhere".
