i have 2 old chassis now :D (i say old, they just a bit worn!) kosmic, and a kosmic! the purple is so lush...although i do like the intrepid orange

Birel is pretty much the only chassis that you run for 4-Stroke racing in Canada.
I don't know about for 2-Strokes though.

Really? Maybe at your club.

Actually, the dominant chassis in 4 stroke in Ontario has been pretty cyclic. Several years of one brand, then another, then another. Gold used to be the 4 stroke chassis of choice, then First kart, then Intrepid F4K, the Tonykart, mix in a little Birel, a MBA, Wildkart they've all had some success in 4 stroke around here.

Though I admit it looks to me like Birel might become a force with the Monteith's running their Birel team in Ontario now.

its mainly all 2 strokes over here in the UK....

It is mainly, however there is quite a large prokart (twin honda) following here in the uk, they just like to keep themselves quiet. Also honda cadet is quite widely run.

Gotta love 2 strokes though, sound so much better.

when you manage to hit 14,000 at shenny it sounds incredible!! The whole kart starts to vibrate you are revving that high! that was in the tow though but even so, sounded awesome

To be honest, 4 stroke has been pretty lightly subscribed in my region of Ontario for the past few years. We're pretty heavy on the Rotax classes for the most part. Micro all the way through to DD2 are (or at least were) pretty well subscribed.

4 stroke Honda (GX200 engine) used to be HUGE here, but it seems to have petered out. It got rediculous, with competitive engines selling for $1500CDN. Kind of scared a lot of the grassroots guys away. It's a good class of racing to get into if you can control the costs for everyone.

$1500, thats cheap! i've raced a guy who spent £40,000 on one motor (is was a rumour) but even if the exact amount aint right, its still a hell of a lot!

I'm guessing you race Senior rotax then??? otherwise that is uber for a junior engine. Mine hits 13k at the end of the straight at Rissington and it really does start to scream then, problem with that straight though is that if you miss the breaking point by even 2 metres you have completely messed up the chicane at the end and lose 1 sec over the lap.

nope, juniors :D, i was in a train with the super one boys, and they are fast! i raced at rissy few times, i got told we were 'fast' but i had a feeling i was a bit off the pace. i did a 42.03, i have no idea how that goes against usual club pace or what have you. Is that a decent time or am i 'off'

What kart club do you race with?
I actually know Monteith, and his Mom and Terry Ventresca helped me out at Shannonville when I tried out a Rotax for the first time. All of those guys at the front are so bloody quick, and with the Herder engines... :nervous:.

I race with the WRKC and we run a Roval course. The Firstkarts suck everywhere except there. They normally bind like crazy but Flamboro is so tight that it works to the Firstkarts advantage.

I don't race.....just been around a long time. I've known Kevin Monteith since he was a little guy in Jr Honda! I actually painted his girlfriend's helmet! And I know Terry as well.....my brother raced for 1st kart for a while when Terry ran their program. I know quite a lot of the guys in or from the Ontario karting scene.

I know Lon, Kyle and Pierce Herder too......I've known them for a LOOONG time actually. Their engines have always been at the front in 4 stroke.

It's not cheap for a 6.5 hp Honda Generator Engine.

That's just an average price. I have heard of upwards of $15,000 offered by more wealthy fathers to buy a winning 4 stoke Honda engine.

Thats a pretty decent midpack to front pace, last month I was running high 42's however our setup was off and there was no temperature in the track. The top last month were doing about 42.2.

And bloody hell that is quick for a junior engine.

na, we just fuel it right. if its popping, the jetting is fine. common mistake. just ease off the throttle and it should stop , and less fuel means you can rocket out he corners

I can think of one who apparently bought 15 engines, one for each race.
And have you ever been to the Leamington Enduro? Corys engine last year was insane. It sounded amazing and went like a 2 stroke. Although it did blow up before the race...

I run 13,800 in my Junior when the weather and gearing is right.

And I'm PRETTY sure that if you're engine is popping, it's bad. Way bad.

popping is bad, bud if you lift off to the point of popping then you still have power and are building up to the second power band. it means you can run it leaner and come out the corners faster and theoretically be faster down the straight (if you can lift off enough to avoid popping)

I have many stories of extortionate engines. My friend got offered 20k for his engine a couple of years back. Some cadet engines sell for up to 15k. Hell we even bought an engine for 1k.

And then there was a mum in cadet who was on the phone to an engine builder during a race saying "I havent spent 25k with you this month for my son to be overtaken down the straight."

Popping...I don't know. It's just hitting the rev limiter really. Anything over 13900 rpm for a Rotax isnt doing anything. It's just goin at a higher rpm and not going anywhere.

Parents can be ridiculous.
At some of the regional races the parents will put tarps around their tents and tape up the king pin and spindles so you can't see their front end settings. Of course that's only the Cadets, Minis, and Micros. Even the TaG classes at the national events don't do that. *facepalm*
Those classes tend to have some of the best racing though. I enjoy watching the younger kids even more than the Masters.

And I'm pretty sure the jet only has minimal effects on low to mid range. Most of the effect is on the top end.
I'll have to talk to my carb guy about that. It's definitely an interesting theory.

The Cadets are always fun to watch..and their funny. what engine and age group is super one?

yea it is, stars of tomorrow or FKS goes to Genk and sends a few drivers over to you for a few races each year. been to genk once, nice track but to big for cadets. 1:06/7 lap times and its boring. flat out nearly the whole way round
