Birel is pretty much the only chassis that you run for 4-Stroke racing in Canada.
I don't know about for 2-Strokes though.
its mainly all 2 strokes over here in the UK....
when you manage to hit 14,000 at shenny it sounds incredible!! The whole kart starts to vibrate you are revving that high! that was in the tow though but even so, sounded awesome
I'm guessing you race Senior rotax then??? otherwise that is uber for a junior engine. Mine hits 13k at the end of the straight at Rissington and it really does start to scream then, problem with that straight though is that if you miss the breaking point by even 2 metres you have completely messed up the chicane at the end and lose 1 sec over the lap.
Though I admit it looks to me like Birel might become a force with the Monteith's running their Birel team in Ontario now.
What kart club do you race with?
I actually know Monteith, and his Mom and Terry Ventresca helped me out at Shannonville when I tried out a Rotax for the first time. All of those guys at the front are so bloody quick, and with the Herder engines... .
I race with the WRKC and we run a Roval course. The Firstkarts suck everywhere except there. They normally bind like crazy but Flamboro is so tight that it works to the Firstkarts advantage.
$1500, thats cheap! i've raced a guy who spent £40,000 on one motor (is was a rumour) but even if the exact amount aint right, its still a hell of a lot!
nope, juniors , i was in a train with the super one boys, and they are fast! i raced at rissy few times, i got told we were 'fast' but i had a feeling i was a bit off the pace. i did a 42.03, i have no idea how that goes against usual club pace or what have you. Is that a decent time or am i 'off'
Thats a pretty decent midpack to front pace, last month I was running high 42's however our setup was off and there was no temperature in the track. The top last month were doing about 42.2.
And bloody hell that is quick for a junior engine.
It's not cheap for a 6.5 hp Honda Generator Engine.
That's just an average price. I have heard of upwards of $15,000 offered by more wealthy fathers to buy a winning 4 stoke Honda engine.
I can think of one who apparently bought 15 engines, one for each race.
gokartman78popping is bad, bud if you lift off to the point of popping then you still have power and are building up to the second power band. it means you can run it leaner and come out the corners faster and theoretically be faster down the straight (if you can lift off enough to avoid popping)
lbsf1I have many stories of extortionate engines. My friend got offered 20k for his engine a couple of years back. Some cadet engines sell for up to 15k. Hell we even bought an engine for 1k.
And then there was a mum in cadet who was on the phone to an engine builder during a race saying "I havent spent 25k with you this month for my son to be overtaken down the straight."
gogatrsParents can be ridiculous.
At some of the regional races the parents will put tarps around their tents and tape up the king pin and spindles so you can't see their front end settings. Of course that's only the Cadets, Minis, and Micros. Even the TaG classes at the national events don't do that. *facepalm*
Those classes tend to have some of the best racing though. I enjoy watching the younger kids even more than the Masters.
And I'm pretty sure the jet only has minimal effects on low to mid range. Most of the effect is on the top end.
I'll have to talk to my carb guy about that. It's definitely an interesting theory.
gokartman78comer cadet, 60 cc, 9.5 hp doing around 60 mph. most kids are 10-12 in supers nowadays
