And (OK this is conjecture) the delay in DLC may well be due to them cooking up something very nice indeed, perhaps that will stop some of the complainers that x car and x track out of thousands isn't included. I'm impatient for new DLC too but sometimes perspective is an important thing. I remember feeling short-changed by GT3, then GT4 seemed like the answer to my dreams. Funny thing is that GT3 was still the best driving game around by a long way, it's just that GT2 had set the bar too high in terms of content. Seeing a trend here?

That trend isn't much to go by since we don't know whether Gran Turismo 6 will arrive before or after Playstation 4. However, I agree with the larger perspective beyond the DLC.

I love this and similar threads. Seriously there is nothing else to do in GT5? Other than weekly challenges for the last year or so, and over 1000 cars to try out on xx tracks and events if you so wish? You'd really be hard pushed to find ANY game with that level of longevity and support almost 18 months after release.

forza4, supposedly.
every modifiable PC game, for example rfactor, gpl, rbr, gtr2, etc.
And that's only the racing genre, because there are others that received updates after 10 years (SC:BW, quake3/quakelive, etc. etc.) or just capcom, which has been doing that since street fighter 2.

current rants are not because the game's not being updated constantly nor because the update announcement is a week late. Thing is forza4 is getting 10 unique cars a month and 30 more in May, which made people impatient.

GT Academy based DLC with new track and a few car sounds pretty logical to me. If you want to qualify for the Academy, then you pay for it. Fair enough 👍

Why would they have to pay for anything? The last GT Academy was done like a seasonal event, there have been seasonal events at Spa and Kart Space and people weren't required to own the tracks to do the event. I think the last GT Academy even provided the car for you.

I don't think pay to play is a good idea for GT Academy, especially with a big sponsor like Nissan. If they were to use DLC for GT Academy, I hope it's open for everyone to participate but you have to purchase the track to use it outside of the Academy. Either way I'm excited for the Academy and hope it returns to the US again, whether it is with new tracks or not.

For some of us, just trying out cars is not enough. We want to race. And sorry, I do not see the longevity of this game. All the events we have now are just the pitiful and short A-spec + the same, exact PP races again and again with the only minor diffrence being the tracks. I would see your point if we still had the old seasonals though.

It makes no sense that they don't include any events with the DLC cars or tracks. They could add tons of events, championships, etc. but instead they just gives us the cars and tracks and say use your imagination, come up with your own events. But that is where online racing has been huge. The WRS Mixed Class 2.4 Hour Enduro at Spa was absolutely awesome and probably one of the coolest things I could do in GT.

OK so presumably you are getting 18 months + out of other PS3 games with weekly updates, and that's awesome, but which games exactly?

That's ignoring the fact that the races included in the game are pretty petiful, the AI doesn't put up any sort of fight, the number of events is lacking, and the DLC doesn't come with events taking advantage of it. 18 months is great, I've found ways to enjoy the game during that time with a few breaks here and there, but when it comes to a career and races they need to step it up big time with the next game. They deserve props for the support they've given the game, but they also deserve the criticisms of the game and it's content at the same time.

That's quite a long way you moved the bar there. You were given what you asked for. GT5 is not a unique snowflake when it comes to updates.

Clean up in Kaz Tweets thread. We need a clean up in the Kaz Tweets thread. Thank you. ;)

now that you specified it and somehow ignored previous posts, and also didn't do a google search first, lets put it this way. Kaz himself said the game was released 2 years earlier, therefore it isn't even finished yet.

That might sound weird but compare vanilla GT5 with the latest update, and also with how many things can be easily fixed or improved vastly. Those can't be considered "updates" but rather just finishing the job.
GT5 has to be the most unfinished and unpolished major videogame release I have ever seen; it truly was a beta.

Now into Kaz Tweets: nope, nothing new. F1 news? Vettel keeps blaming karthikeyan for the accident but in a more subtle way.

This needs proper translation:

"割と本格的な「GT Academy 2012」版を制作してます。まもなくスケジュールが発表されるでしょう。RT @takyob72: @Kaz_Yamauchi 先月、アップデートやDLCなどが配信されませんでしたね。 今後の予定が気になります。楽しみにしてます~。"

Something about GT Academy.

We did this last week.

Sort of. The latter part is a retweet. The first bit is "We will start a full GT Academy 2012 programme soon - the schedule will be announced shortly.".

Which we announced 13 hours ago :D

Kaz_Yamauchi
We're preparing a relatively full-blown "GT Academy 2012" version. A schedule will be probably announced soon. RT @takyob72: @Kaz_Yamauchi last month, there haven't been any DLC or update. I'm concerned about future plans. Thanks in advance...!

Dude whines about not having had any DLC, Kazunori says it's because they've been preparing for a big GT Academy.

This translated says:

We produce a full-fledged version "GT Academy 2012" comparatively. Schedule will be announced shortly. RT @ takyob72: last Mon @ Kaz_Yamauchi, I could not be delivered, such as updates and DLC. The future plan of care will. ~ I'm looking forward to it.

Or it says exactly what Shirakawa Akira says it does when he translated it a week ago and that I quoted 10 minutes ago...

This is a week-old Tweet. We did it a week ago - and pretty much the last 50 posts have been discussing it and misconstruing it as there being some big GT Academy DLC coming.

Last year, long time before DLC was released, Kazunori told that there will be a big anouncement in April 2012.

It sounds more like a new game or something big etc. He was not speaking about GT Academy DLC I guess. maybe I'm wrong but his words seemed to be a hint for a new game like Tourist Trophy.

Can someone please tell me if there are any new informations about this possible anouncement? Did kaz said anything in the last time regarding his words last year? I mean especially this interview, not the every 2 month DLC thing.

Maybe someone reminds this interview. I think this was also posted in gtp but I cant find it. It was not an rumour, but officially from kaz.

So now is April and i'm wondering that nothing happened regarding this. Its still time till march, I hope he will remember his words.

My personal fav would be Tourist Trophy 2, I would freak out.

Maybe it's something starting with a P, that'll be worth a big announcement. ;)

Even if it's true, Kaz and PD are too inconsistent for them to stick to their plans, especially if it's a year or so in advance. They are a dynamic group, and often change their plans over time. To this day, I'm willing to bet they're not even clear with themselves on what they plan to do in the next year, whether that means continuing GT5 support, or to start putting all resources to GT6. I think they're too dependent on the fan's response. hopefully that's not the case.

I highly doubt it would be prologue. Kaz said a while ago that there probably wouldn't be a GT6 prologue.

Give me a sec and i'll find a link...

EDIT: Found it!
GTP: In the future do you see Polyphony Digital dedicating resources to major Gran Turismo titles or to creating more spin-off games, such as Tourist Trophy and Prologue?

KY: The only thing I can definitely say is the next one will be GT6, but we might have something else pop-up in between now and then [laughs]!

No, Amar posted something where a source said PD's new project would come out March '12 and fans wouldn't be disapointed. KY never said anything.

Here.

Even if this is true, he might just have been referring to the GT Academy 2012 as the big announcement which we already know they are working on currently from his most recent tweet...
