Or just get B-spec Bobs for the 24 hour races....what? Too logical? Oh my bad...

Yeah, exactly. something like that. In real life, people do not race for 24 hours because they would get killed. It's the cars that are being tested for 24 hours, not the drivers.

And that brings in another aspect. GT does not really deal in the world of equipment failures, which is the real point of a 24 hour race. Since they do not, why have a 24 hour race? It's a miserable experience.

But for the pure racing fan who wants to take part, they would enjoy the realism of taking turns with other drivers.

Hell, there is a wide world here of options.

I could save my progress after a 4 hour stint and pass that to a friend who races for 4 hours, passing it to another friend. If we all win, we get a huge prize together.

Yeah but it's not like an "option", those races exist in both A and B Spec. For some folks 100% completion is all, for me i'm happy to wait for saves or not do them at all, but I can understand it bugging some people too.

@Nielsen, JaiAE86

If it is not asking much, I only want you two answers.
1 - How did you do the 24h enduraces?
2 - And only one single reason for not wanting the savegames endurace, if exist such reason.

I didn't do them yet and so far I only plan to do the 24 hour races in B-Spec mode. I have never come across a game which let's you save in the middle of the action. Exceptions are when the game has a pre defined checkpoint where the game knows exactly what it would have to load the next time you get back to it. Races in GT5 don't follow such a structure so the saving process would have to be quite advanced in order to collect info such as car positions, timetable, tyre conditions, fuel levels, changing weather etc. I don't know what PD is capable of but I don't see them pulling this off without wasting their energy. There is a pause button so get over it please.

Zackly! Rumours they are, not things we "know" but no doubt some or all of these things will turn up, I have everything crossed anyway :)

By the way, regarding PD staff on location and researching, don't draw too many conclusions from that, I remember a LONG time ago reading (in a car mag but I honestly don't remember which one) about a track day in the UK where Kaz was recording the engine sound of an old Jensen CV8, but that never made it into GT5 and I doubt it ever will.

I could at this point say is it any wonder the game took so long to develop if time and resources were wasted on that scale? But I won't :)

Right. Kaz and his team have also been seen recording other cars like a Maserati GranSport, a couple Jeeps and a bunch of other cars. I think it's far more believable when an OUTSIDE source hints that something is coming to GT5.

That's what I was thinking.

But the pause button idea isn't so good for everybody, including me. I wouldn't like having it on for 3-4-7 days straight.

You don't need checkpoints. It is sufficient to make a copy of the memory state (where all info about opponents, your car, the race condition, etc. Where do you think this information is processed in your PS3?) at game save time, then reload it when desired. It's not anything complicated for experienced system programmers. User interface integration is probably harder.

Ok, maybe you know better than me which isn't unlikely. How come game developers doesn't scrap checkpoints then and which problems do you see regarding interface?

Checkpoints are obviously easier to implement, since they're some sort of "bookmarks" with a more or less defined state that can be reloaded anytime, if I understand what you mean. This is not possible in all games, though, and some which appear to have "checkpoints" can in reality hide to the user a much harder structure behind them (think at a first person shooter which can have bodies laying out anywhere, used items, displaced objects, etc).

User interface problems can range from usability, reusability of existing elements, resistance to change by the UI designer, possible introduction of new bugs (what happens after you boot the game after you turned off your PS3?), etc., which need time to be analyzed and studied carefully especially in big projects like GT5.

However, I fear this discussion is off-topic here.

2) It's not a true endurance race if you can save through it.

1. The majority of players are Not endurance race drivers, they have certain obligations and leaving a console burning electricity is not really an option.

2. Endurance races to the length of some in GT5 would require teams, not lone drivers.

If you can pause, there's no reason you can't save, simple as that. If you don't want to, you don't have to, but why limit that choice to other people.

If you dont want to run a race that is an actual endurance to finish then why do you want to run an endurance race?

There are plenty of races in GT5 of much shorter lengths to keep everybody happy. Why ruin the acheivment of running an endurance race just to make people happy that dont want to run an actual endurance??? I just dont get it.

It's like me saying I really wish the People that organise the London marathon would let me run it 1/2 a mile a night because I want to run the marathon I just want to do it in half mile sections.....

except you wont have run a marathon......you will have just run a series of 1/2 mile races.

anybody asking for a save feature is basically saying

"I want to run a 24 hour race but I dont want to race for 24 hours."

surely people can see how absurd that comment is?

You are aware that none of these long races are run by a single.driver in real life right?
I believe that most are run with teams of four. And there is a maximum allowed seat time per driver.
Yes Kaz runs the 24 hour race, but he is only one driver on a team of drivers.

Because it's nonsense, no one in real life has ever driven for a solid 24 hours in an endurance race... not like you can just pit in and have your mother/father/son/daughter/girlfriend/boyfriend/cat/dog/crazy uncle drive the next few hours, while you take a break.

The achievement here is that it's something completely illogical that no drivers do anyway. Like I said, if you can pause how is that any different from saving? It's still interupting the natural flow of the race.

you are such an absurd.

NOBODY RUN A 24H RACE ALONE.

kid, tracking the number of pilots for the events of Le Mans and Nurburgring. Stop posting this absurd.

They are racing with replacement pilots. Welcome to reality.

So who is wrong here is you. Who wants to run a race that requires more than one person alone.

And now?

Deal with it.

/\ WHAT? KID TYPE ENGRISH

Dude, even if you do it in 'stints' you'll still end up doing 24 hours, no matter which way you slice it....so who is wrong here is you (I think, not sure about that line....)

kid, english is not mine native language.

I have no obligation to speak English 100% correct in a forum.
I just gotta make you understand what I want to talk, and that's enough.
If I start to speak Portuguese, you are fluent Portuguese to talk with me 100% correct?

So stick to the subject.

Can either of you go back and show me where I said you should run the race alone..... I'm not sure who you are saying that to but since it's not based on anything I said I have to assume it's not me.

For the record I think the way to run the 24 hour races is to get a group of friends over for a day and make a party out of it. 1 guy racing for a couple of hours at a time whilst the rest of you hang out.....maybe time it to coincide with a big football game you can watch or something.

What you want to do with a save feature is run a series of 1/2 mile races for a few weeks and then say you have run a marathon.....you haven't....you have run a series of 1/2 mile races.

If you only have 2 hours to dedicate to the game before you have to turn your PS3 off then guess what......there are 2 hour endurance races in the game......it's almost like they designed them especially for you. Think yourself blessed that PD took the time to tailor a race specifically for you and go at it :)

Maybe you have 4 hours free......the wife's out for the night and it's just you and some quality racing time......hey look.....a 4 hour endurance race.....how perfect is that?

Hey you have an entire Sunday of sitting around the house......look at this 6 hour endurance race....that will make the day just fly by for you. How cool is it that PD put that in the game for you.....and it even has dynamic weather to really mix things up for you......what a great day you are going to have.

all perfect races for the person that wants to run an endurance race but only has a few hours free.

But whats this.......you want to run a 24 hour race......but you dont want to race for 24 hours......I'm sorry I dont understand? Why do you want to run a 24 hour race but not race for 24 hours.......Oh you only have 2 hours free you say......well then you dont actually want to run a 24 hour race do you? You want to run a 2 hour race....

no.....you want to run a 24 hour race.....you just dont want to spend 24 hours racing......sorry I'm still not getting it......if your not going to race for 24 hours then it's not a 24 hour race is it?

I tell you what how about you go away and work out how long you want to race for and then come back and tell me and I'll see if I cant find a race that's a good length for you :)

seriously guys........ you can run 1/2 a mile a night.......but when you have done that 52 times you still haven't run a marathon have you?

Now that is absurd.

And I don't like it when people say this, but it's true usually, stay on topic.

Hey not everybody has enough free time for that.

Google Translate isn't right. You Google Translate english to portugese.

Bah, I don't see why people don't want in race endurance saves, no one is forcing you to save if the option is there. That might sound absurd, but having many options to make the game enjoyable for the majority of people actually matters...

Back on topic, it's great to see PD moving it's infrastructure to accomodate more workforce and give flow to more projects, sure it's been a long hiatus since real update but still, the so awaited DLC is coming. 👍

So, in short, you don't want, because you will not use, because it will not race.

seriously guys I do not understand.

There's no way you do a 24 hour race "fair play".

You have to:
- Running 24 hours without sleep
- You can not pause the game
- You can not use a car faster than others
- Have to use the same type of tire

If you do all this ... Congratulations ... you are not human.

I have several friends who have already completed this event. But they won with the X1 Prototype. What is the challenge? Wait that does not end the energy during the race?

Running>>>> several laps over the second placed>>> sleep>>> wake>>> run>>> pause>>> win

If you want the trophy, just run with your bob in B-Spec. You win the same trophy.

I want the challenge ... the challenge of racing a car of the same power, same tires and see the transition from day to night, from dry to rainy weather. I want to have this experience .. and only with the savegame I can get it. And surely many others feel the same way.

Agree. And so do many others. Also, pausing just isn't/can't ever be an option to everybody, although, I do agree with A LOT of what you said Nielsen.

Now Cucobr, let's move on. No one wants to get warnings from the Mods.

My idea is that we should have an option to save an endurance race based on its length, ie: a 4hr event would only offer the chance to save once during the event at a pitstop. Once you have used this save the rest of the race would have to be completed in one go. Where as a 24 hr race could offer say 8 saves during the event, A bit like credits so once theyre used theyre gone and they could alter the prize/reward ie: Cr and XP based on how many saves you had used.
This would mean that a race will still have endurance to it in stints of say 2 - 3 hrs in one sitting unless you used all your saves early on the you'd be forced to do a very long stint, or you could complete it all in one go for a bigger reward/prize.
I also think like the Championship races once you start an event and choose to save it that the race must be completed before you can compete in anything else including online.

Many Thanks

Right. You do know PD is busy moving their offices from Tokyo to southern Japan, right? Not an easy or quick process. I mean, PD's sorry that there was a big ol' earthquake and the want to get away from the earthquake prone region of Japan...

Yeah, and I'm sorry that I have to read another one of your nonsensical posts. 👎

To put that "PD's sorry there was a big 'ol earthquake" comment was quite moronic and since you put it out there like that, if Kaz and the team at PD REALLY wanted to get away from the earthquake prone region they would've done it YEARS AGO!! I'd think they would be a bit more worried about something called radiation, rather than the earth shaking.

Now, I will keep asking.......FIX THE SERVERS PD!!

GOD!

So they'll all leave their families in Japan to go live away from an earthquake prone country. Fix your brain, boy!
Radiation. +130 million Japanese must move too.

What? They're not leaving Japan you fool, just the area near the reactors....
I was saying that's the only way they'd get out of an earthquake prone region.

What Mitch said.
So radiation is contaminating Fukuoka as we speak? And all those other developers near the reactors are stuck in their studios? Radiation can't be stopped by a wet towel under the door? Someone, CONSULT THEM!

In light of what Kaz has tweeted I will just say, it's about damn time. But.... I won't get my hopes up and none of you should either. Just one more thing for us to wait for. After a bug fix and a few months later we might see DLC. Maybe by Christmas we might have something new. And I still can't believe that he is still using freaking twitter to communicate with us.

My thoughts on PD relocation. They should have done this after GT4 and started expanding then, their (Blockbuster GT5) game explains my reasons why. Sorry Kaz your just a little to late on that thought process.

Top Gear looks fun. And very well (better) implemented.
