 Already hit a pole?

You need to just give it up. Sell the RX-7, buy a Geo, and leave these bouts of spirited driving to your Gran Turismo sessions.
So you're saying he should give up driving because he's run into something for the first time (first time that was his fault) in (I'm estimating) 5 years of spirited and track driving?

Seriously, you didn't bother to read anything and you're just assuming he is going around crashing cars left and right.

What's the damage? Any scrapes or what?
It knocked the ice off my bumper. I was only going about 3 mph, but couldn't quite stop in time. I misjudged the drift a bit and ended up putting the pole right in the middle of my bumper, instead of to the right of it. Come on though, I was in the process of connecting from another pole, like 100 feet away, and I placed my car wrong by a couple feet. That was the first time I even tried going around obstacles. Next time I'll actually go around it. Maybe I'll shoot a bit wide instead of trying to cut it nice and close, eh?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that my speedometer stopped working the other day. Sometimes i flicks up and down a bit, but it still sounds like there's a hamster in there. Haven't bothered to take it apart.

May wanna check the support structure behind. the plastic can be okay, but usually there's a crushable structure behind that gets all knackered up.

Of course, if you're a true drifter, you've removed all that and have your bumper barely attached, so that if you even do something as mundane as go off into the grass, it comes off, and you have to run the rest of the event without it.

I've done the exact same thing in a lame '93 Ford Escort. Using a lightpost as an obstacle and thinking "I'll go around it, no wait, maybe I'll just go before it, nevermind I'll go arouCLUNK."

No damage, not even the ego. Just laughs.

I think he just needs an excuse to use the big box of zip ties he bought on the way home from picking up the car.

I think he was joking...

You forgot the part where he he scratched the Civic up on the Tail of the Dragon. :P

Sorry to thread jack, but I ran across this and thought it could be a good deal, what do you guys think? I'm kinda tempted...

Go check it out. The owner has already pissed me off by not being clever enough to provide pictures.

Anyways, I completely forgot to take pics today while I changed my spark plugs. HUGE pain in the ass. Like seriously, the engine bay isn't even that crowded, but everything seems to have been placed specifically to be in the way of you and your tools. For instance, I had to take the dipstick out because it was just in the way of my ratchet.

Terrible car.

EDIT: This is what the plugs look like:

Funnily enough I was looking at a picture of plugs like those the other day for some reason... I think it was on the Ecomodder forum and someone had been given them free for some reason. They were running them in a Toyota Paseo, so no, I don't think they're rotary-specific.

The reason they're flat is to have clearance for the rotor to move past. They would probably work for anything, they do spark afterall, but they probably wouldn't work very well because they're further away from the combustion chamber in a piston engine. If anything I'd think they would light less fuel in a piston engine.

Yeah, there's no gapping to it. Just put them in and tighten until it feels tight enough. Or to specification, whatever lol.

It's been almost a year since I posted in here last, and I've only owned the Rex a bit longer than that. Just a couple weeks ago I realized I was madly in love with this thing. But now...it has worn off. It just went poof this past weekend and I'm still not sure why to be honest.

On Saturday a friend (who owns a rusty, slammed BMW E21) and I got to talking about BMWs for whatever reason. I have no idea how, but the conversation went from "BMW" to "740iL" in a mad hurry, and suddenly I found myself Crazedlisting the entire Midwest, astonished to find people selling these luxury behemoths for so cheap. I found a 1998 750iL - the V12 - selling for about $5000. The car cost "$119k new," as the ad said. Ridiculous! And then it happened. I found pictures of stanced 740s, like this one...

...and I was like, gotta have. Nice, right?

But then I talked myself out of it with various reasons, from maintenance costs to image. I don't want to roll around looking like a drug dealer. Plus, to get the car to look anything other than utterly boring it needs lowered with wheels and tires, etc. Also it is enormous. Gets the same fuel mileage as my RX7 though, which is amusing.

So yeah, I decided against the 7. Mainly because I found an E30 that caught my eye. In Philadelphia.

The car is pretty nice. It's a 1987 325es, which means it has a 2.7L version of Bimmer's I6 that revs like a diesel in stock form, and makes diesely amounts of torque. To liven it up a bit the owner slapped on a Magnaflow cat-back (the legit exhaust is a major plus over my car) for a little better flow and a streetable but satisfying sound. The engine is chipped which results in an extra 20 horsepower and about 20 more torques, for totals of about 140 and 190, respectively. It is lowered on Bilstein dampers with Ireland Engineering springs and stanced a bit with 15x7 and 15x8 Diamond Racing steelies. I hear they're all the rage but I'm not into it. The seats are Euro-market Recaros which look and feel lovely, and are a pricey aftermarket upgrade.

Overall the car looks great. It was owned and maintained by an enthusiast who obviously knew what he was doing, and I can tell just by looking at the surprisingly clean engine bay. His goal was to make a fun daily driver and that parts he chose sound like what I'd be interested in doing, if only I were motivated to spend on parts anymore. I've become lazy; more interested in washing and cruising than wrenching and bruising. BMWs like this have an uncanny ability to be race cars or show cars and work just as well in either role, so if I ever change my mind in the future I can give this car a makeover. I have a few friends who own them, one of whom works at a place called Euro Classics where a wealth of knowledge exists, along with a list of part numbers as big as the prices are small. Oh, and junk yards. Don't bother trying to find an FC in a junk yard.

Anyways, long story short, I want this E30 and I've made a few steps toward coming up with a buying plan. Tomorrow I'm going to see a loan officer about financing options. Anything from a simple car loan to a credit card with no interest for however many months is on the table. Oh, and a Craiglist ad for the Rex. Good riddance!

That would be deadly if you could pull that off! But, I'm pretty sure those seven series V12's barely managed 290hp, and it would probably be lower at this point. But still, it would look super sweet. Go for it if you think you can!👍

Edit: ...And then I read the rest of the post...

I was aware of you having the Mazda but I hadn't need it before. Such a nice looking car. Have you sold it already? I believe I saw an add for a white one in ohio on craigslist but the add was gone already.

No, I haven't put it up for sale yet and I'm still not positive I'm going to. As I was getting ready this morning I was pondering the Bimmer idea and I didn't have much enthusiasm. Then again, the Rex doesn't garner any either, so I really don't know. I'm having trouble listing reasons for getting another car besides "I don't like the RX7".

Given that I'm very much wanting an E30 myself at the moment, I'd say go for it.

That said, I'd also say "Miata".

I'd like a Miata too, but I'm not sure they're worth $4,000+ in stock form, in the condition I'd buy. The Bimmer is that much, yes, but it also is modified tastefully in ways I would do myself that make it a fun daily driver, even when you're going slow. And again, it's clean.

Another thing with a Miata is the reason I want a Miata in the first place - to go fast and maybe even race it. Discount parts are out of the question. Cesar could have had 5 Miatas for what he's spent on his, and that's about how I would treat mine as well. I can't afford to go all out and I don't have another car to drive on the daily, so I'm just going to avoid the Miata thing entirely.

Th RX7 would also be good as a second car, but I don't have a first car. And it makes a bad first car. See where I'm going with this? The E30 makes a good first car-and-a-half, while being reliable enough to stick with for 5 years until I can actually afford a barnstormer to park beside it.

 es

Anyhow, just get an E36 I'd say. E30s continue to be over valued, much how the AE86 was and is for various reasons.

And yes, I recall saying at that point you should have just bought an E30 instead of that silly Mazda. AND BEHOLD.

Told ya' so.
