Don't quote me on this but I think the 360's unrestricted chat system is patented, so Sony probably can't go there. The text chat system is a start, though, not ideal but we can text chat with people across games, so there might be a voice chat version coming. If it is patented, though, they'll have to figure a nice legal way around that. I guess this could be one of the features the PS3 will never have, but then if I was paying for Xbox Live I'd want the 360 to at least have some exclusive features!

Well i hope thats not true - i have tried from launch day of the PS3 to like it better than the 360 and all because of games like Gran Turismo 5 and MGS4 and Killzone 2, graphically its always been better IMO but where it lacks is that its been playing catch up on Xbox Live from day 1.

And i agree with what your saying about wanting exclusive features on Xbox Live but PS3 needs a voice chat system, once you have been an 360 user for so long then switch to a PS3 its like i cant communicate and i dont feel as part of a community as i do on Xbox Live.

Maybe its because i play with lots of friends who i like talking with that makes me feel this way - creating squads, playing tactically, fooling around.

Oh and it's a dashboard on the 360, but its the XMB on the PS3...

Not exactly chalk and cheese.............

Was playing last night with the updated patch! Cant say i noticed much difference apart from the Map having a larger radius view which was good! I dont think i played enough before the new patch to notice a difference to be honest!!

Unlocked the medic last night and a couple of new weapons - Shotgun and an SMG only need one more Good Conduct ribbon to be graced with extra ammo at the start of a game!

254 kills and 196 deaths is my stats so far and 106 kills were headshots !

Edit: Can i also ask - has anyone changed the button layout? I found it weird playing with the R1 button to shoot so i went to layout 2 which swaps Grenades to R1 and Fire to R2 trigger!

I'm on layout 2 as well, the logic of using the TRIGGER as the shoot button kinda explains itself.

HI Guys, i just found out about the 1.24 patch. It increased the trophy's from 52 to 64
Those are the new trophies for the DLC due next week....

http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/04/21/killzone-2-dlc-adds-12-new-trophies/

...12 in total, all bronze and all linked to class achievements (such as revive 5 people in a single round).

In regard to 1.24, this is what it added..

In a continuing effort to provide support for Killzone 2 Online, and to show you day-1 fans of Killzone that we mean business, we are very happy to announce the upcoming 1.24 patch. This patch is the biggest one yet, and addresses a large number of reported issues, exploits and bugs - but it also adds new functionality to the game for you to enjoy! I would like to highlight the fact that we are adding 3 new ranks to the game, reached at 5000, 10000 and 100000 points respectively. These ranks do not give any rewards but it allows the real hardcore players to show off their hard work to everyone in-game! Other highlights include a new 17-24 player search game filter, enlarged HUD radar distance and a much requested “Join Clan Member” tab in the join game screen. The patch also allows you to play against the next batch of contenders: Japan, who will be able to buy their copies of Killzone 2 on the 23rd of April and will be joining the community online.

Allow me to clarify on these new features a little: The new ranks we’ve added are basically a reward to all the players out there that have massive amounts of points, and we hope that it inspires other players to keep on playing. The 17-24 player filter was a direct request from the community because a lot of people think the ’sweet spot’ of the multiplayer levels is around 24 players instead of 32 and are creating custom games accordingly. The Join Clan Member tab was also a direct community request, allowing players to join clan members when they are playing regular non-clan related games.

There has been a lot of discussion on the forums about the lack of a ‘party system’ in Killzone 2 and rest assured, we are working hard on creating features that will make it easier for you to play with your friends online. These features include being able to join the same faction of a friend already in-game directly from the join game menus, manually being able to switch faction during gameplay and making existing squads consistent over multiple rounds; no more need to create a new squad every single round. These features will be coming to a patch near you soon!

I hate the fact that the patch changed it so you have to wait till the guys face comes up on the screen before you can skip to the menu. IMO, being able to turn on your PS3 and jumping right into the action without waiting made it seem more attractive to play when you're looking to kill 30 minutes.

I'm sure 5 extra seconds will not matter on your 30 minutes killing spree. ;) GG didn't want it in either by the way, it's a requirement from Sony.

So I got a top 10% player ribbon the other day, which means i'm finally wearing some colour behind my stars. I just wanna know, do I keep the colour behind my stars forever or does it go away next week?

It will go away.

BTW, did you guys also notice online pretty much consists of Radec/Pyrrhus only? That really sucks, I really want to play some different maps like Visari Hammer, but nobody is playing it. :(

I just played after not playing in a long time, and it still amazes me how stupid people are. They all want to be a sniper or that guy that runs around fast. With the SplitFish controller I have, it's only fun to play as a sniper. It's very hard to turn around, so I only play the Pyrrhus map. I always run out of ammo, and then I get to run around trying to get killed or pass over snipers who've been killed to score more ammo. I'm not earning a lot of points, but my weapon kill ratio is going up.

Anybody know what new trophies were added? I still cannot go to the KZ2 website.

£4.79 for two maps.

I think I for one will be giving that a miss, not a great price at all.

Assault class is the one which has 'boost' allowing super sprinting and some health regen when activated. It's a good perk and the body armour is useful, but I think this class should've been given LMGs instead of the noob launchers. Thats why I avoid this class, and when I first got it I always swapped my gun asap for an M82 or similar.

I can see boost being super effective if unlocked to be used with the Saboteur class, disguise + uber fast sprint = sneak in disguised, nail some guys and get out, fast with boost.

I'm trying to unlock the Scout class myself, I'm pretty good with the rifle but unlike most people I don't just spawn camp, and actually aim to do something to help my team, for this reason I want spot and mark asap to help my entire team massively.

I aim to swap between that, and my current role as Medic which if I may say so myself I'm a pretty good medic, spending more time sitting back keeping everyones health up with medipacks when defending, reviving those in need (who aren't just going to get downed again right away!). The medipacks are fantastic, quick recharge time and so useful when defending any objective, using them to heal yourself if things get hairy. I hope to unlock medipacks for the Scout as well so I can go lone wolf for kill counts.

I agree, thats so expensive for 2 maps. I mean thats 10% of the full price of the game, and it isn't 10% extra game, it's just 2 more online maps when I'm having more then enough fun on the ones we started with.

After playing a couple games last night after a hiatus, i'm considering selling this game. The learning curve for online play is just unbearable.

Spawn, die. Spawn, die.

Ok, i'll pick a less hectic spawn point. Spawn, run, die. Spawn, run, die.

And something just doesn't feel right about the controls.

If it's too hard to learn, and you don't have the time or patience to learn and get no other enjoyment from it, my general rule of thumb is to sell it or give it away to someone who will find it enjoyable.

I found it easier to spawn from the base when I first started. That way you learn the map as you make it to the action and you're not being thrown into a giant cluster of shooting and explosions.

This only really happens on the smaller maps, try to find a game with nice larger maps and play games with objectives not just body count. The deaths will follow the objectives no doubt and if that happens to be your spawn, just sit further back and defend, let the rest of your team throw bodys at them.

HI guys, This is a question for offline part of the game. Is there a catch to finding all helghast enemy types to melee kills, I'm missing 1 & i'v been through it 4 times.

I have to disagree, Giancarlo. I started owning about 3 hours after I first picked up online mode. I played the campaign through first though. I have around a 2:1 KD ratio. The hard part is scoring points for the game rounds. I don't know how people rack up like 100 games/challenge points per match.

It's more than that. If that is what keeps happening to you, you're playing it wrong and/or you're playing with idiots.

The respawn points MUST be placed tactically. You just can't toss a respawn grenade just anyplace. If a respawn area is overrun with spawn campers, don't use it.

If you keep getting killed running to someplace, you obviously are running incorrectly. Use cover, and don't run in a straight line. That's easy picken's for a sniper.

Also, never stand still. This one is really frustrating for me, since I only have a SplitFish controller at the moment. It requires you to stop running as you select different button options. Very frustrating.

If a game is getting too frustrating, quit and find another. That's what I do. I find the games that are more frustrating I find myself playing with idiots who cannot play properly.

KZ2 can be fun if you find a smart, tactical and experienced team to play with. It doesn't always happen, but it's great when it does.

I feel like I am the only one that has had no trouble with this game since it came out. The controls have never bothered me. It only took about a week for me to get used to them and after that I have had no trouble. I also do not get why people say oh this class is so cheap. I can get just as many kills with the tactician as the assault. Also with the scout, sure it is really powerful in TDM but it is not nearly as effective in modes like S&D. The key to KZ2 is to be smart in your movements. If you realize that everyone is congregating to one area go a different route and flank the enemy. There are so many different routes in each map there is no reason you should be forced to take part in any potential chaos.

So I tried the new maps yesterday. :) I must say that I'm not disappointed. The Vekta Cruiser map is an absolute frag-fest, a bit like Blood Gracht. The Train map combines small, confined spaces with large open ones in a very good way, it's the better of the two in my opinion.
