Kimi Raikkonen looks like a good chance to win the World Championship in my opinion, after his win at Sepang. I actually thought he'd win Australia, but for the drive-thru penalty . . .

Another excellent improver is Fernando Alonso - out qualifying Michael Schumacher is not something you see every day.

Do you think that Kimi can put together a sustained charge? I'm impressed by him thus far, I thought he controlled his race pace well at Malaysia. Perhaps needs to calm a little in qualifying.

Australia had a lot of "if only" events - for example, had Webber's suspension failure stopped him in a sensible place, then the second Safety Car period would not have happened, and Montoya would have won, spin notwitstanding.

Championship prediction:
M. Schumacher
D. Coulthard
K. Raikkonen
J-P. Montoya

I actually reckon that Kimi can scrape together a half-decent year. If he keeps up the sensible racing he's been producung so far, ie race pace, as you said, he could well go out and win 7 or 8 more races. I'm barracking for Kimi this year.

My prediction:
1. Kimi;
2. TGF;
3. Rubens Barrichello;
4. David Coulthard.
------------------------
13. Mark Webber.

I am pretty sure Coulthard would have won without his car letting him down but yes Alonso has really impressed me big time, I was expecting another bland mr Average but he has performed brilliantly so far.

I was similar - I thought him wildly over-rated, but he drove a pretty calm and intelligent race at Malaysia - the boy might be pretty handy (plus I'm starting to dislike Jarno Trulli - don't know why, I don't pretend it's rational)..

I think it might be a bit early to be making predictions for a McLaren championship - we're yet to see Ferrari and Williams (although they're clearly in trouble) get clean runs in races yet, and Barrichello's second at Malaysia would suggest the red cars aren't that bad.

Renault will probably continue to surprise - can't wait to see them at Monaco.

Yeah, the red and blue (Williams) cars are yet to get a perfect run, but from Barrichello's and Montoya's speed on the weekend, they certainly don't look down and out just yet. Montaoya, even though 3 laps behind,was still showing excellent speed so, by all means, he definitely doesn't have a slow car this year.

Well, it's probably got something to do with the fact that he is going the way of Eddie Irvine, and pre-2002 Rubens Barrichello, namely telling everyone who will listen (and that's not many) that actually despite the fact that he's got no results worthy of the name, and despite all the false dawns and false pretences, he is actually a really great driver.

Trulli has never had a good reputation in our house, having been selected three times by the dear lady wife for Fantasy F1 duties, and then performing atrociously badly in each year...

This led one wag to (at a party in our house) announce that, based on the performance of Jarno Trulli, state that the road to Fantasy F1 success was to ensure that you did not share any elements with Suz's team!

Ah, well... we can still hate Villeneuve.

yeah that jog up and down pit lane must have been so good for him in those conditions

...I still believe that Michael will win the the title again this year, just not by as much

1.Michael Schumacher
2.Kimi Raikkonen
3.Rubens Barrichello

Hey! I was scratching for money!

I don't hate Jacques so much as shake my head at such a waste of undoubted talent - if he'd put his backside in a McLaren or any number of teams except Bloody Awful Racing we'd have seen more of his skills.

The ironic thing is this will probably be his last year there, just as it looks like they're coming good. Oh well.

I actually was really surprised that Kimi won. I didn't think he could do it. I was really disapointed when DC's car failed... I'm sure he would of finished first if it wasn't for his car. Ferrari's accident really screwed them up. If not for that, I think TGF could of gotten in the top 3, maybe 2nd.

Anyway, here's who I think will win this year:

1. Schumacher
2. Coulthard
3. Montoya
4. Kimi
5. Barrichelo

*We gota keep in mind Ferrari hasn't brought out their new car yet...

I think barrichello will certainly do better than that. I believe he is also a contender. I believe he will be within the top 3 this year. I am not a fan of his, but I think he will do good.

McLaren also haven't brought their new car out yet.

We'll see - but the power deficit they had last year seems to have been addressed, and that was the major weakness with the car.

Thinking about it, Kimi could have quite easily won in Melbourne had it not been for the pit speed limiter in his car - maybe now he's had his first win he'll continue taking the next step. He was mighty impressive at Malaysia.

...Jarno Trulli could also have been a chance in Malaysia as he had more fuel in the car than Alonso did

looks like a great season, cant wait for the European races and with them the new Ferrari & McLaren

Trulli isn't that bad... as long as he is inside his car with a helmet over his face.

I can't offend him, because he is in my Fantasy F1 team. If he found out i insulted him, he would perform badly; just to irritate me!

Geez - you're taking this far too personally.

Thanks for that - I have him on my driving line-up as well. ;)

Ive noticed no-one talk about williams yet...
anybody get F1 Racing ? great mag on F1 and in this months issue there is talk (rumour) that BMW are not happy with the way the Williams is running, as they have provided them with a powerful (top 3 in terms of HP) for the last 3 years and the cars not getting any results
...but the team was winning races and championships with....Honda
Anyone wanna speculate on those 2 teams doing a straight(engine) swap?
stranger things have happened
BMW also rumoured to want to buy a team, could it be BAR?
