Latin American Caravan(s) Headed for Southern U.S. Border

Just gonna softball it in like that?
Yeah, 'fraid so. When I don't have a personal involvement or strong interest in a particular topic, I figure it's best not to post just for the sake of posting. I had a quick question, it was answered, so that's it. I bunted to the pitcher, was thrown out at first, and left the game. :sly:

Firstly, your history needs some fleshing out (as shown by @Danoff). Secondly, "alarming" is subjective and forms a particular aspect of attitudes and policies around what constitutes "good" or "bad" immigration.

Which is why I said I could be wrong on when it started, but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong about destabilizing countries south of the border (hell, big companies destabilize our own mom & pop stores in small towns).

We bomb Syria, lots of Syrians lose their homes, we see them here in the US, all because of big money.

If they'd stayed home then they wouldn't have been separated, would they?
:odd:

How that reads to me:

---------------------------------------------

*family crosses border illegally, gets separated*
"You should've crossed legally."**

*family crosses border legally, gets separated*
"You shouldn't have crossed at all."
---------------------------------------------

Should we be penalizing people for doing things the right way (assuming that crossing anywhere other than at an official point of entry is the wrong way)?

**I'm assuming here that you're not actually opposed to people entering this country with the goal to stay.

Surely they have the choice to travel legally as they see fit?

They entered illegally I believe. If they were legal then they shouldn't have had a problem, and shouldn't have been separated.

I wonder why the mother wasn't involved, if she was already here (presumably legally).

Nope...

Seven weeks ago, as Angelica crossed the Paso del Norte Bridge to a legal point of entry in Texas, she knew U.S. immigration officials might separate her from her 3-year-old granddaughter, Sofi.
A fact that was presented just sixteen seconds into the video.

If they were legal then they shouldn't have had a problem, and shouldn't have been separated.
They were, and yet they did and they were.

I wonder why the mother wasn't involved, if she was already here (presumably legally).
Does it matter? The grandmother was. The grandmother who was carrying guardianship documents.

Is it likely it would have changed anything?

Man I thought this thread was bumped because the Latin American caravan saw all the COVID in the US spreading in record numbers each day with the White House refusing to even acknowledge it and decided staying in Mexico was the better option.

These 2019 Trump political scandals seem rather quaint now.

It'd be ironic if because of this Mexico decided to finance the construction of the wall after all.
