This is my grind of choice. Tried about 50 cars, these are the quickest cars from my testing:
  • Quattro S1
  • Lancer GRB
  • Porsche 917K
All will lap in around 4 mins on RH (FM1) in the dry. The 917 will reach 210mph on the straight even detuned.

An interesting race with the weather conditions, CPU does some silly things sometimes (pitting 2 laps in a row, or putting on RM in the rain). Rain happens between lap 2-5. (never 1, 6 or 7). Sometimes a brief shower, but you may get heavy rain (and wind!) for 2 laps solid.

If it rains heavily, usually CPU will not make it to the 7th lap by 30 mins. You can sit on the finish straight and creep over when time reaches 30. Most likely you approach end of lap 6 @ around 28 mins. If it doesn't rain heavily you have to do 7 laps, this should only take 32 mins (using the above cars) even with 2 stops.

Most road cars are fairly useless due to fuel consumption. Exception being lightweights like BAC Mono or the Radical.

GrB are generally the quickest outside the Porsche 917K.
For "non rally" race cars Gr2 and Gr3 are too compromised for the 700pp, Gr4 suits it much better.
Alpine 220 (the old one) is pretty good as well, as is the Escudo, but it needs some very heavy detuning!

I do one race a day at least, 825k for an easy yet interesting race!

Finished 40 seconds ahead of P2 in the MP4/4. Had to pit for IWs. Not stop, FM1, stock transmission.

I bought the extra aero parts. Changed the rear wing. Not sure that had an effect, when adjusting for maximum downforce to lower the PP.

Here's my list of winners. Ran the Ferrari Italia 458 09 road car today. 4:01 best lap. Cheap Le Mans killer.

Ran this twice today, totally dry races again, its been like this since update 1.21.Anyway,used the RX7 with engine swap, first race was a comfy win with 1 stop for fresh tyres only,no need for fuel as even on FM1 there was enough. The 2nd race was a different story, built up a lead of 2 mins by lap 5,decided to go the whole hog without stopping, bad choice, tyres were almost all red by end of lap 6 so thought i would wing it.To cut a long story short they didnt last,my 2 min lead disappeared very quickly,it was like i was on slicks on a soaking wet track,i wobbled round and came home 7th,i did get CRB though.lol
I thought the tyres would last like they did when i used the Mazda 787b,but i suppose with double the hp it was never going to happen.

I have done this race over 100x and my car of choice is the Red Bull Junior - it's fairly quick (though not the fastest), nimble, handles very well in wet and with TCS off and is super economical!

I start with RH tyres and change to HW when the rain comes (usually between 10-15 minutes). The weather can be highly variable with most races having some rain though I've had races with no rain at all and in some very rare instances, monsoon-like conditions with the weather radar being almost completely purple.

I tend to do 7 laps but it is possible to finish by only doing 6 - it depends on your lead and how much time is left on the clock. For instance, in the rainy conditions, it's easy to build up a huge lead by several minutes and on the final lap if there's 2 minutes to go and your lead is 2min 15, you can stop at the finish line and wait for the race clock to tick down before crossing as soon as it hits 0 for time.

Some people may prefer other cars e.g. Ferrari Italia as they're faster than the RBJ but they also require multiple pit stops which soaks up a lot of time and that can be annoying if you're swapping tyres for IM/HW when the rain comes etc. With the RBJ, it's super economical and you only need 1 stop for refuel which can be on the 6th lap.

the red bull jr was also my main car until I started using the 88 supra which is faster... the red bull is great at turns, acceleration and gas efficiency... but its just not that fast... I take the lead by the end of lap 2 but only by inches then I have to pit to switch to wet tires... so I am playing catch up again by lap 3 but get first again once everyone pits... and when the rain starts the CPU has no chance to take the lead... out of all the times I played this race I never once lapped the CPU...

By any chance, do you play on a higher difficulty? I play on Easy and can overtake the whole grid before the end of the first lap.
I only lap around the 3-4th lap depending on when the rain arrives and keep the HW tyres even after the rain has disappeared.
My lap times are 4:12-4:18 consistently with TCS at 1.

^ I must not be that good lol... I play on easy... ya my best lap times are probably 4:25...maybe I have to switch my settings up...

It takes practice etc...drop TCS to 1 or 0 and you'll be flying in no time! After many races you get a feel for the car, track, when to brake and turn etc...with some corners you don't have to brake at all but ease off on the throttle. On lap 1 it's a good idea to slipstream as much as possible too.

Have you completed the track to gold in Circuit Experience? That's also helpful too because the Peugeot Gr.1 car is much faster than the RBJ so once you do the CE to gold, you'll have a lot more confidence in pushing the limits of the RBJ.

Is this on FM1 ?

Six laps are all you need. When you get to the end of lap 6 and go all "Danny on the Gas". Sit there 50 feet from the finish line just as Danny Ongais did one year at Daytona when his car was about to give out with an hour to go and his team leading by a country mile. 1 second til time is called, roll the car over the line to win. You should come out at 30:05.

That depends on the car you use and the lead that you have. Some races you need 6 laps and other times 7. If you are able to consistently win this race by doing 6 laps, do tell us the car you use, setup, settings etc...as this might be beneficial for other players.

Last night I somehow ended up with an almost 3 minute lead. So could wait on the line for the 30 minute mark to tick over. Even when I’ve got a jump on the competition pitting early, I’ve never led by much more than 1 minute.

This was with a 787B. Pitted for full wets, even filled-up, as I forgot to cancel refuelling.😁

Whose tune are you using for the 917K?

Thanks.

^ the only time I win in 6 laps is if there is heavy rain... but if it doesnt rain at all 7 laps always
Me too. Need the heavy rain to change to HW tyres and then watch the AI drive slowly and give you a big lead. I used to do the Le Mans race but now I find it boring as the long straights almost put me to sleep and it's an extra 5 min longer than the Sardegna which is fun due to all the tight corners etc.

What's your average lap time?
Good question. It was in the 5 minute range for sure(I think my pit outs were 4:30+). I pit Lap 2, when I saw the purple rain coming. Surprised it was that early. Drying line took all race. Sunshine was end of Lap 5.
With that heavy rain through Lap 3, the IW held up to Lap 5. Switched to RH for Lap 6 and about 6minutes 30seconds left. The P2 Huracan was 1:42. NSX was P2 nearly a minute behind and pit with Me waiting at the line.

I use the following setup with the Red Bull Junior. I can do lap times of 4:12-4:18 consistently with RH and FM set to lean. I normally only pit to change tyres and a slight refill as the car is incredibly economical.

I use my RX-8 787B for no fuel, but all depends on rain for tyre changing. I just let off the gas at the start. Gains me a couple laps of fuel. The CappuBino didn’t need fuel. I had about 3 laps because I was stationary.

I love the Quattro, Porsche 917K, and Alpine 220. Among my favorite cars.

You are really missing out not running road cars though. I've won Le Mans with over 60 cars and road cars are the most fun. They are generally faster than race cars (that's the trade off - speed for fuel consumption). But simply run a two stop strategy. Many Ferraris and Lamborghinis can be in the lead after a couple of laps. Almost all road cars can go FM6 for three laps, take IMs or wets if you need them for the rain (it usually comes laps four and five - watch the radar and pit after lap 2 if necessary if it comes early). Then run two two-lap stints at FM1 (or in some cases I'll run FM 4-6 to conserve fuel for a lap, then run a lap at FM1). Winner winner chicken dinner. I quickly got bored of winning by gaining time on pit stops...
