Stop blaming the power train or vehicle weight. You can easily have a top 3 finish with a heavy and/or slow car at the start of the season. I proved that point by racing the 280z last season. The gearing was too tall and I also made the mistake of picking engine 2 over weight 1+2....but still I placed 3rd in the championship behind two MGs.

Consistent driving will overcome just about any vehicle selection.

Just pick a car u know u can drive. With my acute ability to overdrive corners I need an FF. FR cars get loose and I spin them. And MR well I honestly don't like any except the 03 mg . next season I'm gonna pick something awesome. Idk what the courses are or the pp limit, or whatever other ridiculous parameters are set up, but I'm getting a lot better and I'm gonna find a car that I can win with. Top 3 on Tuesday again...top 5 Wednesday. I've been playing a bit more at strategizing more!

What Cujo said. If you pick a competitive car that suits your driving style/ability, you'll be competitive. Like Cujo, I realize that I'm better at driving FF cars, but I'm going to practice with FR's in the offseason. Whatever PP we choose as the starting point, someone will find the ringer, but I don't think we should be afraid to choose the same cars. I value close competition over car variety.

I'm not the only one who was for the lower PP, (pretty sure I've said this twice) Diabolic, leadbedr, dabney, pyxen (all drivers who you KNOW will show up the whole season) agreed that we should lower the PP. Should I have them pm you to prove this?

I'm not blaming, I'm just looking at the points leaders for the last couples seasons. I am not expecting to see myself there. I just find it hard to believe that everyone is rubbish, too.

I think what it actually is that the really good drivers, the ones that would still win by a little bit in cars like the 280Z are winning by a lot in better cars.

You are that only one, that I recall, that gave any reason. Even if the others did, I don't recall anyone thinking that the lower PP would tighten up the racing. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. I don't know.

I'm not against it, but I'll only be for it for the right reasons. Thus, the testing.

I'm fine with lower pp, but before you agree, take a look at your options for said pp. Not many FR cars fall under 325 so people will be looking at FFs and Keicars for sure. Also, the lower the PP, the more precise you have to be. It's about carrying your momentum through turns and finding a line that allows you to stay on the throttle longer. With less braking, there is less chance of catching back up after you make even a small mistake.

I'm not married to a lower PP. We should test, obviously, and pick which ever PP level is the most fun and competitive. Larger car choice should be a factor too.

i just want to have fun. :nervous: can we have fun please, pretty please.

when mommy and daddy argue i feel like its my fault and i have to spent 3 hours in a mira on super speedway just to make up for it. please dont make me do it.

i beg of u. :(

@Chuyler: Consistent driving is not the be all end all. I have had zero major issues wed. night and it was someone else punting me that cost me that same podium spot you attained last season. My plan was laid out weeks ago for podium and it was coming together beautifully before the bad luck from last night. With that said, I'd say luck makes up a good 25-30%

Yeah I suppose you're right. I was almost punted by lunarian last night...but I decided mowing a little grass to avoid him was better than picking up damage...but I was unlucky last season at Trial Mountain when I came down the front straight and a car was planted right in the middle of the track. That's racing I guess.

I guess the only way to drop that percentage is to have more races in the season. If we doubled the number of races, a single accident wouldn't carry as much weight. Just think about NASCAR and how often big name drivers get DNFs due to multi-car pileups.

Perhaps I could throw out the option of combining tuesday and wednesday into a single series. Twice as many races...and chances to gain points...but maybe half the reward money after each race...meaning you might not make upgrades between tuesday and wednesday.

I would say that consistency isn't the end all either. Look at my qualifying times. My fastest lap time during qualifying still doesn't even place me in the middle of the field (well, I think it did at Daytona, it might've at Fuji, I don't recall, and I didn't qualify at Suzuki).

I think twice as many races would make things better, but I don't know if everyone could commit to two nights a week. Since we've cut back from 90 minutes to 1 hour, maybe we could just do two races a night.

More races don't bother me, but two nights a week might pose an issue. What's wrong with just extending the season? A 10 race schedule doesn't sound horrible. 10 weeks is 2 and a half months, and makes it seem more realistic. We need to keep it in the winter time though, summer time is quite hard to commit too, and a Wednesday night in december doesn't seem like anyone is too busy.

I don't know, it was just a suggestion. Two races per night could work too...but it doesn't leave much time for test/tune unless we ran the same track twice without changing parts.

I like the idea of 2 races a night without changing parts. Reversing the field would be interesting for the second race, so long as it's not a crash-fest. But hell, that's racing.

If we did 2 a night...reverse grid or not. How would you want to score things? Add points from both races, best finish of the two, or average the points?

Add both, but we don't have to do 2 races every night. I was looking at the Cappuchino Cup, and they mix it up with some 2 race nights and longer enduros. That could work.

If we did two races a night, I'd actually want to run two courses on the same parts/tune. We could have a technical track and a speed track.

If we did do the same track, twice in a row, then I could see the idea of doing best or average finish and only scoring once.

Good point; two different tracks on the same tune sounds awesome.

I like that idea, but they can't be 1hr races...would have to top out at 30-45 mins max.

Would be interesting to have a few sprint races too, at somewhere like Tsukuba maybe. 4x15 minute races, with all points averaged could be pretty sweet. Or something like each 1st place is worth 5 points instead of 20 (20/4)...if you get 1st in all 4, you get your full 20 points, else it's shared. All other points are divided by the number of races as well...of course. :)

We should have 5 minutes between races to tune if necessary, too. I think reverse grids would be cool - if you're that good to win, then you're probably that good to get back up to 1st again. (maybe?)

This idea wouldn't work on long tracks.. Tsukuba or Autumn Ring length max. Not even GVE-short, I don't think...not sure if they're different, tho.

I'll try and get some practice in tonight, but I'm sure I'm down around 4'32ish.

I've been running standing start laps 1 at a time. Averaging 4'38.xxx.
Will be running practice race tonight if anyone interested.

Spa and a kart track?! What the what? DLC disappointment.

Not very thrilling, I WANT MT GT2 TRACKS!!!!! I just want to race Seattle Circuit for god sakes.

I liked Midfield.

I haven't messed with it, yet, but I see there is a slipstream strength setting. I think we may turn that down next season. :)

p.s. I really don't want to wade through pages and pages of forum rants about how lame the DLC is (only 1 track and no new cars), I just want to know, what is the deal with the suits listed at the bottom of the new gear page. Can we really get just a plain white or black suit? I will admit, it looks very Stig, but I just want plain.

You can have one lol, just stick on the Jeff Gordon suit, then change helmets to a white helmet of your choice, and you get the White Stig suit and gloves. Can't have black though, sorry.

EDIT:

:embarrassed: They have the Simpson plain helmets! I always did want a Flat Black simpson helmet, except my size in real life is VERY expensive. Large cranium ya know?

Sorry for double post, but I'll give you my parts list when I get home, I have to go to Tutoring after school, I haven't even tested, just going to buy and play lol.

I'm beyond stoked for Spa, it's pretty much my favorite track in the world. Now I just need a PS3.

Good luck tonight.
