Alright, let me just say I think the S15 is one of the best looking cars to ever come out of Japan. If it wasn't for the ridiculous restrictions on imports here in the states I'd be looking for one in a few years.

I think the Varietta completely ruins the look of the car. I feel the same way about the 350 and 370Z Roadsters. It's like they chopped the roof of it and forgot to finish styling it, so they just extended the trunk all the way to the end of the doors.

The Varietta wasn't built by Nissan, it was built by Autech. I don't think Nissan thought of making it a convertible, thus the mess that you see.

The regular S15 is to high for 385 right? I haven't driven the Varietta yet but I did test the '93 S14. It was about a second off my fastest cars which isn't too bad. At 200kg lighter, it might build up better than the Varietta and help with corner speeds at tracks like Nurburgring and Suzuka.

Yeah, it isn't the first time Autech did some questionable styling either. Just look at that gigantic wing they slapped on the back of the S14.

Those three are my short list, and I wanted to try an FR this season. I have picked up a few more that I haven't driven, yet. One of them is the 4WS Celica. I'll try them tomorrow, hopefully.

The 4WS Celica is the car I would've run last season, if I had found out about this series in time, mainly because it's nearly identical to my first car.

However, I'm not going to run it this season, since from what I've learned following these threads, the inability to take a turbo is a problem, and you may want to avoid it for the same reason.

I've pretty much picked my tuesday car, I'm just not sure I want to reveal it since most of them refresh to just over 385 so other people may not have even considered it, and I don't want anyone to steal my idea, though I guess then I can't run it in practice on tuesday, hmm...

You can't turbo it? I thought I tested it last season but I don't remember the lack of a turbo. I was hoping to see some improved corning via the 4WS but it just behaved like every other FF car I drove.

I do agree that the 350 and 370Zs are not very attractive. Over all, they look short and bloated. There was a Mustang/Camaro revival. I think there should be a Z car revival, too. It should go back to its E-type looks.

I agree that the Varietta doesn't look as good as the rest of the S15s because of the rear. They munched it up a bit when making allowances for the folding roof.

But I still think it looks fantastic. Then again, I've always liked women with hips. Salma Hayek is fanfreakingtastic. So is Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Paige.

And yes, the Varietta is probably the only S15 capable of a turbo under 385 because it is so heavy. The Queen's/Spec-S Silvias can't take a turbo.

I, too, could be wrong, but I thought the 4WS could take a turbo. I hadn't driven it, yet, so I'm sad to hear that it doesn't corner any better. That was what I was hoping, for.

Nissan has a wide selection of purples. If I stick with the Varietta, I'll probably paint mine one of those colors.

So I'm looking at the S15 too...but holy ****...who isn't ? Maybe we should ban the varietta, just so everyone needs to look at something a little more original ? :P

Oh, and I think the 350/370Zs are beautiful cars...I really like the short broad shoulder look to them. Definitely something I'd throw a nice wing on, and just cruise around..it's a premium tuner's car (as opposed to a civic or something).

Woah, the Varietta can take a turbo?

Might have to rethink this...

Yeah. My understanding of the Silvia line is, the Varietta is based on the King's/Spec-R (or Aero R?). Those can take a turbo. The Queen's/Spec-S's can't.

Not sure why they can't. Not sure why PD did a lot of the silly things they did.

p.s. Seems my understanding is wrong. The Varietta was based on the Spec-S.

<dramatic>Nooooooo!</dramatic>

I like having found a stable FR. I was afraid I'd go around like Cujo. There may be some other stable FRs, though.

It would've been nice to come up with some sort of mechanic to limit the number of any one type of car. I guess we could've agreed to a lottery for picking order. I don't mind there being two of any one car, though.

I agree that the 350 and 370Z are a couple of the best looking sports cars out right now. I just really don't like the convertible version at all.

Regarding not having too many of the same car, you could just only allow two people to sign up with the same car. First come, first serve.

Not a fan of first come, first served. Particularly not this late in things.

Honestly I'm not sure I see a problem with more than 2 people running the same car, at the very least it would be interesting to compare what they could all do with the same machine.

If we do get many of the same car(s), I would suggest they all choose different colors, but that shouldn't be much of a problem.

How many people have submitted their car choice already?

I've gotten three official car selection PMs (and those people are still free to change their minds). But this conversation I think taints the FIFO results.

If there is a lot of complaints, then I'll use on of the online random number generators and set up a lottery.

Dibs on Midnight Purple x.

Guess we'd have to lottery that, too, if it gets to be a problem. :P

On the subject of looking for cars, I'm trying to find a '99 MR2/MR-S that can get up to 385PP after refresh or refresh + parts, since I'm leaning toward running that on wednesday, and the best I've found goes to 383 after window replacement.

Garris, can I assume I'm one of the first 3?

Oh, and sl3ight, yeah I agree about the convertible 350/370... Very strange...

Yes.

The other two picked Toyota MR variants. So yes, we have a week, yet, but so far is sounds like a two-make series.

I'm not really bothered by that, but if everyone else is, then we can pick a duplicate limit of two or three, and then I'll hold a quick lottery for car picking order.

p.s. I've posted a poll if everyone really wants to voice an opinion.

I just voted. I havent chosen a car yet, but I should have something picked by tomorrow.

Stop talking about the S15. Lets all just forget it exists (except me, cause I'm driving one) and move on :)

I don't mind if people run the same car. That just adds a different challenge to the series to see who can make the most out of the car.

This, there doesn't need to be a limit. It doesn't matter if everyone is in the same car, or same 2 cars, or whatever.

Though, if anyone else picks the car I'm planning on running on tuesdays I'll be somewhat surprised.

A gtplanet top tip, dont pick a Volvo :D
@Garris- I could go back and read, but I'm lazy. What time for prac. tonight? Hopefully everyone is aware they will need to send you a PSN FR to get into your lounge. Or will it be...open lobby. :scared:

Yes, do send me a friend request! The races will be in a private lounge.

Tonight, I should be online around 9:00 Eastern. Tonight won't be formal. Come when you can, stay as long as you want. We'll run little races, rotating through a couple of courses (GVE-R, Madrid, Laguna Seca, and possibly Fuji). It is just a chance to meet the new people, to see how we race (clean), and see how the cars are you considering are comparing to the rest of the field (seems I'm 3-4 seconds slower than everyone at GVE-R, but that is the point behind the parity device).

You don't have to pick a car tonight. You don't have to pick your car until one week from today.

And so far from the poll, it looks like people are okay with duplicates.

You all can have your clan of S15's, I'm going with my off-the-wall choices on purpose. I'm about to blow your mind. MWAHAHAHAHAHHHAAHAHHA.

Hrm..I've been waffling too, but that FR turbo goodness may be too much to give up!

Im not tons use the Silvia, but here's food for thought. We all know the silvia will be good. So if 5 people pick it... The 5th place will have a huge advantage the following week. I think a lot of people picking the same car will lead to a lot of sporadic sandbagging throughout each race. I will not be an ugly Silvia for either night. Power is important, but as I found out last season you still have to drive the car well and not wreck. I look forward to tonight. Doubt ill use my my selection, but we'll see. Should be a good night of testing. Hope lots show up
