Btw, I was thinking about series format, and has it been suggested in the past to go with a set amount of cash, and you can buy whatever you want up to that amount? Ie: 30k credits for car and all equipment you can cram in..

The first season had that format. I don't remember if we started with 20,000 or 30,000 Cr. The result was the same. The field was dominated by Imprezas and Lancers. And the challenge was simply to churn your UCD not to find the car you wanted, but to find the car you wanted with as many miles as possible.

There were a couple Silvias and such that didn't perform well in the beginning of the series. We expected them to do better later, but it was just too little too late.

There will always be cars that are a great value. This format lets people choose cars that may not necessarily be a great value, but are still great cars.

We tried that the first season. The prices on cars in the UCD vary greatly depending on how many miles are on the car...and it severely narrows the selection down to cars that are cheap and fast. We had like 3 Evos and 2 Scoobies, and none of the cars were remotely competitive against them until the last two races of the season. The PP based starting point worked wonderful last season and there was quite a bit of shuffling of cars.

Understood on the credits format...I enjoyed last season, but was just wondering if/how it would/did turn out. I wonder if a co,bination of year, and cash would work well? Kind of like last year where I came in a race down, but had some cash to bring a car just barely out of the performance basement..

Definitely would rather stick to this format, since it's a bit more interesting.

If anything, I think an interesting change for next season might be assign credits(possibly altered amounts from the rest of the races), but no points for the pre-season race, in order to attempt to handicap the series for driver skill before the first race.

However, I honestly can't think of a way to prevent sandbagging, unless it's some sort of judgement call based on voting, or the judgement of Huyler and Garris, rather than based on results of the race, so I'm not sure if it's really possible.

Why the fret over sandbagging? Both series were won by driver's who did NOT sandbag. If we didn't win last season, why would we this season?

Yeah, I don't think we should worry about sandbagging. It's a valid strategy. I'm not gonna complain if the guy in front of me wants to give me some extra points.

He's not talking in general, just talking about the idea of giving credits in the preseason race.

Its not like you can change cars after the pre-season race. If I feel like my car is better than the guy next to me, why should I let him know it.

I hope some of you will be as determined to place well this season as you are to running your mouth. :sly:

I'll race you hard till it's over, and when it's over, we'll get right back at it with shuffle derby.

I'm not skipping races this season... Gonna make a strong run at the championship (and I won't be running out of gas this time!) Lol...

Diabolic, you deserve that win tonight....I can't believe I ran out of gas.. that's horrible, but hilarious at the same time.

Pulled from last seasons thread, it speaks to the final race result @ Sarthe. Quite possibly the best line ever executed on GTP. :D

Yes, this, I was only talking about the potential for sandbagging in a theoretical money-but-no-points preseason race, since sandbagging in the normal races is pretty much just a strategy call, trading points for money.

Why do money like that? The winner of the preseason race should earn 5k. 2nd gets 2500 and 3rd gets 1k. The rest, get a pat on the shoulder.

As I said in the original post, to handicap for driver skill before the points races started, perhaps I wasn't clear enough.

Doing it your way would spread the field out more, not even it out.

Hah...yeah. When it happened I was definitely "WTF!!!....Damnit!! *sigh* *watches diabolics little triangle on the map get closer and closer and... There he goes..*"

Not this year tho! I only make that kind of mistake once... (Putting that there so it can be quoted later this season ;)

Doubt it would do anything tho...some drivetrain upgrades, or window weight... The series leaders don't get much cash as the series goes along.. So 5k at the start doesn't really change anything in yhe long run.

Is it too late to get in on this? It works well in my schedule and I'd like to do more racing (despite that I should have a big ol' black novice "x" on my car).

Closer and closer is not how I recall the race going. I'd watch the replay to confirm, but I'm not that determined to correct the story. We can agree that I won and your 2nd place was unfortunately taken away.

PS: Did you pit once or twice?

I've published the spreadsheet that will be used as the leaderboard this season. I will update it after each race.

This Tuesday is the preseason race at Madrid on CS tires. I suspect it will be 30 laps. If you have not sent me a friend request, yet, do so.

After Tuesday's race, please share your cars. If you can't make Tuesday's race, send me your car selection. You'll still need to share your car.

You know what... You're right damnit :banghead:. You got me on lap 19 or something - not at the end... I think I might have had a chance to pass you again as you approached traffic. Sorry Diabolic, you're right.

Pitted twice - once with Garris, and once with you.

Jedi - check in with Vol above to see if there's room..

Jedi is the 16th. Hopefully everyone will make it tomorrow night.

Pyxen, BTK and I passed you at the end after you ran out of gas.

The fully customizable transmission will be 7,500 Cr.

Just about a day to go to the preseason race.

  • Friend Requests: If you have not sent me one, do that. The races will take place in my private lobby. As a result, you should practice in yours. Private lobby physics are different from online and A-Spec. For that matter, you may practice in mine. If there is anyone else in my lobby, feel free to join them for practice.
  • Car Selection: I only have half of the car selections. Not only will I need car selections, but I'll need parts installed to get you up to 385 PP. Don't forget to share your car after the race (or before the race if you aren't going to make the race).
  • Tuesday's Race: As I mentioned, it will be in my lounge. It will be the full Madrid course for 30 laps. Pit stops are not required, but I really don't imagine anyone will want to try that. Damage will be heavy. Please, please, please, don't hit anyone else. This is my third season, and I can tell you that not wrecking is much more important than driving fast. Qualifying starts at 21:30 Eastern. Race starts at 22:00. There are no points and no credit allocations for this race. This is just to debut the cars, get into the swing of things, and make sure we can all race clean.
  • Driver List: We have 16 drivers signed up for this. If anyone misses three regular season races, they will be dropped. If anyone fails to make the preseason race and fails to send me their car selection, they will be dropped (if I have your car selection and you can't make the preseason race, you are fine, don't fret).

p.s. I've republished the spreadsheet with the cars redacted. You can see which drivers have cars. As the season goes along, I need you to help verify that the part list for your car is accurate. Get comfortable with that spreadsheet.
