I just ran a few laps at Grand Valley East Reverse with a bunch of different cars. I was using the controller so there is plenty more time to squeeze out...but I didn't have time to plug in the wheel and run clean hot laps. Anyway, here is my findings...
1:16.xxx '99 Impreza Coupe
1:16.xxx '01 Lancer EVO
1:18.xxx '93 Skyline GTR
1:19.xxx '07 RX-8 (premium)
On Comfort tires, the Impreza likes to drift. It feels the fastest due to its low weight and will likely be very quick at our Autumn Ring warm-up. The EVO likes to push. As soon as you get on the gas it goes straight. Turn in isn't too bad as long as you use just the right amount of trail braking (not easy with the controller but I'll manage better with the wheel and pedals). The Skyline pushes as well and due to its price (was exactly 30k in my UCD) the lack of mods makes it slower on the straight. The RX-8 feels great since it originally came with comfort tires...but its gearing is too tall for GV-E. It might be able to make up time in the turns but will definitely fall short in the straights.
I think I'm going to run the EVO for the series. Everyone else is picking Subarus so I might as well mix it up a bit. BTW, AWD is definitely an advantage on these comfort tires...but once we move up in grip the RWD cars may be able to rotate the car a little better and gain time in the turns.
I hope everyone is practicing w/o the driving line on. It will be off for the race. The only aids that will be allowed are ABS and TCS, although I recommend having TCS off if you want to run faster lap times.
