Well, speedtest.net doesn't support my broadband provider so it doesn't come out as well as the actual results. But here it is anyways. Remember, your results will vary greatly if speedtest.net doesn't support your internet providers backbone. Speedtest.net makes it's money by having cable companies pay them to support their backbones. :)

Hey dabenye, those speeds are incredible. So incredible that they are likely not real... Are you using a DOCSIS 3.0 router? Basically no providers give them to you. You have to buy one on your own. That is the only way to achieve those speeds. Another note, anyone getting upload speeds in excess of 15 mb/s without paying 100 dollars a month are blessed. Sl3ight, your connection seems odd. I have yet to see a provider that has a higher upload then download. Generally it is about a 1/4 ratio at best.

Results after last night... WiiFreak has pulled ahead another 3 points from me. Grenade is only 10 points behind so one more good finish can put him up there. Lots of other drivers in the 20's looking for their first win. I'd say the season is still wide open.

Great racing last night. It was most certainly a sprint and easy win for the faster cars. I stuck with WiiFreak's draft for several laps but once he stopped messing up the final turn he was able to pull out of drafting distance. That was the only turn where I could run a faster line.

At the beginning of the race both WiiFreak and I were following Baldwin, but a very early mistake put Baldwin behind. BTK was also pretty far back by choice I believe.

Eventually, both Baldwin and BTK started putting in clean laps and they both caught and passed me. It was obvious I had to have absolutely perfect laps to even consider keeping up with either of them....which makes me wonder if WiiFreak was sandbagging a little so I could run with him. My lap times slowed by almost 2 seconds after I lost his draft.

By the end, there was no one in front of me who had a faster car (i think) so I'm ok with that. Lumberjack could match my lap times for a while but he was a lap down when he was doing that. Not sure what was up with Diabolic...I thought for sure he'd be out front.

Looks like it will be some tough competition at Trial Mountain next week. I've got to figure out where to spend my money to shave off a good 1.5-2 seconds. I don't need to win, but I think I need to be faster than gShark and WiiFreak to stay competitive in the series.

Please remember to share your cars...I'd like to take each one for a quick spin in the next day or so.

Here's mine... Comcast upload speeds suck. Sometimes I get 5-6Mbps but I'm usually around 3. It's more than enough for online racing though. I've never had lag issues in any online game before.

It's not your internet speed that matters chuyler. It is wireless internet that matters. You cannot host a stable connection via wireless internet. It just doesn't work.

I single handedly believe that is why we have people on track who can't see each other. You will not lag, the people connected to you will. That's the trick with wireless. Packets get dropped all the time. Also, the amount of packets sent each time one is received is less then a wired connection. Long story short, cable up my friend :)

We should go to speedtest.net and post your results here. Maybe we can see who has the best connection and plan hosts accordingly. Here's what I get at work so you can see what the results look like; I'll post my home results later.

Wanna have an internet speed duel?

What? "Support your broadband provider"? All speedtest.net does is check your ping and bandwidth to a particular server, which may or may not be provided by a cable company. You can choose from many different servers, which are provided by many different companies. So, to say that speedtest doesn't support your ISP is like saying that I95 doesn't support your car manufacturer.

DOCSIS is a cable modem standard. I'm not on a cable connection. My work has 2 50Mbps DS3 connections to the internet. At home, like sl3ight, I have Verizon FIOS, which is fiber optic to the house. The difference between that and a cable connection is that on cable, the connection is shared amongst houses in a small area, whereas fiber is not shared.

You need to look at other providers in your area if you can't get more than 15Mbps up. I pay for and get 25Mbps in both directions. Again, this is a fundamental difference between cable and fiber connections. Cable is rarely synchronous, but fiber usually is. Hell, Verizon has 100Mbps down/ 50Mbps up available now.

Not true. If i log into the paid version of the cable provider, my speeds jump up about 50-75% in the testing.

I have a family member that covers a very large area for a major internet provider and he has shown me numerous times how speedtest.net only favors ISP's who PAY them.

I understand that WiFi is risky, but i race night aftwr night with some of you guys with absolutely no lag. It is always the same people who have issues. Baldwin not seeing Lumberjack, Nic being a little laggy, etc. Eventually i will switch to a hard line, but thats a home improvement project that is not on the top of the list.

P.S. I ran speed test from my Ipad...
Ping: 79
Download: 12.7
Upload: 3.8

FTTP often has equal up/down speeds. It can also go a lot higher than my advertised 25/25.

Here's my personal best download, from a few months after I first got FiOS. Doesn't seem like Verizon has a problem handing out some extra. I have no explanation but I'm not complaining. My torrents can hit 8MB/s pretty often.

Screw you all, and your fast internet. In the country, I have poopy interwebz.

With this game, it's more about the ping than anything else. I doubt the packets are very big so a ping under 100 is good, and under 50 is great.

That's pretty much right.

Bandwidth and location relative to clients are important for the host. On the client end its the ping (distance to server and stability of connection) that matters the most.

Looks like lap times will be between 1:35-1:45 so I think 55 laps is good. I was going to do 60 laps but I think that will push the length of the race well beyond 90 minutes.

I dont know. The race was a lot quicker than tues. I assumed 409 PP in a 206- 405 PP in the MGF should have kept in in the middle. Worked for the 206 only.

1:35.xxx is going to be very hard to beat. Hopefully thats a FF car time and they'll be sacked on tire wear

I don't know if anyone will hit 1:35...but I know people are hitting 1:40 without selecting mods yet. I suspect someone will at least hit 1:37...and with some drafting the times could drop even more. Man I've got to do some testing!!!

Been so busy this week I haven't even had time to look at people's cars from last week. I guess people can un-share them at this point since I know you'll have to do some practice of your own.

Advice for overtaking the Vette:
I will be taking the turn into the tunnel and the turn going downhill after the tunnel very outside to save my tires.
anyone else only running 1:45's?

Just picked my parts blindly. Still trying to maximize performance points so it only took a few minutes of swapping parts around on my test vehicle. No idea what lap times I'm going to run. I was right around 1:40-1:41 last week so the extra power should help me close the gap on the guys that were quicker than me.

If I can show up to the race will be the real question. You know how consistency and I roll... we don't.

Same here
Unless I have a draft
But the last corner really scares me especially because you're already past the pit
