How did no one step in? Players or otherwise?

The bystander effect? It's deceptively powerful.

But this is a horrible story. Truly dreadful. I am perplexed as to how these kind of things can still go on in this day and age.

They're mindless teenagers, from the sound of it.

They seldom have motives.

I've heard stories of referees and/or other officials getting abuse from both players and spectators at an amateur level, but this it just dark.

The three teenagers who did this atrocity should be banned for life in any sporting event and be put on a trial, a 10 years sentence would do them good.

Do they do life sentencing in Europe?

If this happened in the states those three might've gotten those.

Still a terrible outcome for that referee regardless.

It apparently happened right after a match. And besides football, those kids were also trained in kickboxing. I think we will have more details tomorrow.

The 3 kids are in solitaire detention, because their parents were witnesses to the beating.

...

'The beautiful game'... :indiff:

Why is it that whenever I hear about sport related violence, it always involves football?

As this is going all over the world, I really hope the justice system uses this case as an example, and give those 3 idiots 10 years each. Minimum.

No, they are being charged with manslaughter, assault and public violence.

And even if they are charged with murder, 10 years is already a pretty steep sentence here.

I think assault is a bit silly, its way worse than that, but I can see how its manslaughter.

Your justice system is messed up.

I'm sad to say a very similar incident but not as serous; happened with the under 18's team for the rugby team play for. :(

IIRC the referee had been incredible biased towards the other team, giving 'my' team no decisions. The referee was either (I can remember exactly which one it is) : beaten in the changing rooms after the game, or a few of the players met him on a night out and beat him. :(

I am leaning towards the first one that happened because it sounds worse and I remember my dad saying how bad it was.

Anyway, back on topic. This is absolutely disgusting `!! I have no idea what would drive a person to attack someone over a game. Other than the incident I described I always hear about violence in the 'beautiful game' FOOTBALL!!

Just another reason to dislike football.

@Dennisch

Over here in the US, those charges would easily yeild 10-15+ if not much more.

Think last week a linesman got beat into hospital by a 17-year old player in Belgium.

Maybe football needs to start implementing bouncers as linesmen? :dopey:

Seriously though, this is getting out of hand.

I think it's a felony to assault a Official here in the states, yet alone kill them.
They would be serving time in the fed pen after turning 18

They need life.

If you feel you have the right to kill someone that did not harm to you. You are man enough to have your life taken from you and locked up for life.

Sorry but in my opinion if you take someone's life and it isn't self defense. You need to either be locked up for life or get the needle. Sorry no excuse for you to get out. You should rot.
