Hey quick question, because i'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong; i keep winning nothing but sackgirl clothes in the first few levels. Is that normal? :odd:

Like the polka dot dress, etc? It should be a mix though. Like the swim trunks and stuff.

Yeah it's a mix, but a heavily biased one.

I don't recall having the same impression, athough maybe they make some of the female costumes a little easier to earn in the early stages, perhaps with some kind of age/gender bias, as it sounds like you may just not be finding and or earning all the costume prize bubbles.

I started a thread a while back, LittleBigPlanet - Prize Bubbles & DLC Prizes for those interested in finidng out what items are loacted in specific levels, but due to the lack of responses from others I stopped updating it as it appeared to be a waste of time.

However, I did list all the costume items through the first nine levels, and looking over the list, it certainly does not appear to have a female bias, and easily most appear to be non-gender specific:

(sackgirl costume item), although I'm sure some have different opinions on what is and isn't gender specific, but just as a basic example, I've highlight ones that are likely traditional female gender specific items... except for those with Elton John fashion taste. ;)

Looking at the list it does accur to me that some of the nicer outfits, like Roman or Pirate stuff are rewards for 100% and/or Ace. So, on an initial playthrough I can see how you get an early impression of a large number of female items, especially when you consider that even the male Elizabethan outfits look girly by modern day standards.

Yeah i definitely haven't been acing much, just sticking to the costume bubbles that appear in clusters at the start of some levels and the ones you win for just completing that level. I've gotten the impression that most of the prize bubbles available throughout the actual levels are usually stickers/decorations/objects anyway, right?

Correct, and I have found that the costume items you get for acing levels are often worth the effort. 👍

A site called GameFAQS now has a guide that lists all the items for every level and how to get them, so maybe that will help you find the costume items you have the most interest in.

1.08 patch is released, but when im checking some sites and no one mentions it. Weird...
Probably because at this point everyone is used to these small patches that rarely do more than give you the new costume assets.

Did I miss the news about an upcoming Kustom Culture patch for LBP with levels created by professional artisits to help raise funds for the New Orleans Musicians Relief Fund?

I ask as Sony just posted the following YouTube video:

Joe Vaux's (animator for Family Guy) LittleBigPlanet Level:

Swinging pirate ships, a gassy cat and giant eye balls are what you'll find in this level created by Joe Vaux of the Family Guy. If you like Joe Vaux's level, check out the other artist created levels in the Kustom Culture patch coming soon to LittleBigPlanet and help raise funds for the New Orleans Musicians Relief Fund!

It makes me wonder how many game developers and artists have created LBP levels using anoimous PSN IDs. Based on the size and quality of some of the levels I've been playing I have to believe these are not ordinary users making some of these levels. I wouldn't be suprised if many of them are developed by groups... and just so I'm clear, I'm not at all complaining, quite the opposite, I am very pleased to see it. 👍

You missed nothing. In the PS Blog post comments someone asked if that was something to be officially announced in detail later and they said it was.

What you posted is the first mention of it that we have heard. Based on the New Orleans theme I am assuming it will be out during Mardis Gras.

"mi casa es su casa" will be the title when it is done. I figure at my speed I need another week before it hits the shelves.

Which begs a question of how hard to people want a level to be? Do you guys like to be entertained with the creativity side or offered up a challenging level with much skill required?

A combination is good.

Just don't get in the trap of making it too challenging so that it is annoying. Too often do I find people making you jump over spikes or electric strips into very narrow spaces that require near impossible perfect jumps. And then doing it repeatedly. And they forget to have well spaced checkpoints.

As long as you warn people ahead of time in the level description you should make it any way you like.

When I am in the mood for a really challenging level I search out and play those types of levels, like Sackboy Savior, or when I want an entertaining and creative level I search those types out, like some of the amazing roller coaster levels, where all you are doing is just going on a ride.

There are hundreds of thousands of LBP users and over half a million published levels so far, and no one level is going to please everyone in the same way. Do what pleases you, and that you get the most enjoyment out of, and surely others will as well. 👍

Also, to encourage replay, I always recommend adding multiple path choices, hidden areas, and timed race sections.

The most important thing though is to make sure that in the description you give a reasonable assessment on the difficulty and length of the level. If someone is in the mood for a really long and challenging level, the last thing they will want to do is play a level that is too easy and short, and vice versa.

Letting them know ahead of time will help prevent people from posting negative comments about your level, although even if that happens, try not to take it seriously and certainly not personally. There are many people who just like to complain and find it amusing to slam other people's levels. Fortunately, they represent a very small minority among LBP users. 👍

You mean like your rounded, disappearing, flaming stones. :grumpy:

Right...I didn't want it to be a one way only level. 👍

Some people asked me how certain things were created in my level, so I decided to make the level copyable for everyone to see. I hope it will be of use.

Name: Torn by Darkness
PSN: Stampy83
Location: Europe

GaaH! I finally managed to make it by the Wheel of Doom in the Bunker. Now just have to go back and get the stickers I missed in the wheel and after that.

I'm really interested in seeing the levels that you've all made.

Does anyone reckon a sequel to LittleBigPlanet will be released or will they just keep updating the current one?

If there is a sequel I hope they add a lot more tools and material physics in it. This game needs hooks, and string that can store energy. Bendable ash or yew wood would be great too. (*geek mode* I want to make a working ballista and trebuchet without having to "fake" them using pistons, dissolve material and other modern non-sense) And wood/cardboard should catch fire if contacted by other flaming objects.

Other than that the game is brilliant.

I did make a somewhat realistic trebuchet, in that it uses the force of gravity with a counter weight, to swing a projectile with a lever at great speed. I wrapped the projectile in question with dissolve material, attached some string to it, and attached a magnetic switch to dissolve the material at the right moment in its swing, releasing the projectile. But it just isn't authentic without hooks doing the releasing.

I also want to be able to wrap chain winch around a wheel, instead of it just moving around the wheel at the same length. This is also why we cant make pulleys in this game. Not realistic ones at least. String, chains and elastic simply "go through" objects.

aye yae yae yae...I don't know about this level building stuff anymore. I just might not have the personality to do it. I am trying to recreate a level that has real life objects in it and I just can’t make myself happy. I’ll spend an hour building some machine and then end up hating it because I don’t like the way it looks and I end up deleting it and starting over. I’m terribly frustrated with my first real attempt to build a level.

Allow me to introduce you to my testing area:

Trust me, I feel your pain. And what you see in that video was after only creating a couple of levels and deleting things that started getting in the way of my new things.

Having a testing area looks like a good idea. I built one of those little death machines the other day and forgot to capture it. I did a run and popped it, forgot that I had done so and save the level which meant that item was gone forever. Yet another wasted hour of my life.

Oh yeah, I make my initial prototype of something and save it. Then I begin tweaking it. if it breaks I have it saved in my objects.

Once I have it how I think it would be best I put it in the level. Nine times out of ten I have to tweak it some more to make it work well with my level.

Even if I screw it up in my level I at least have an old version in my testing area.

Here are a few things I'm "testing"

I thought really clever of myself to have an electric hammer squash you.
