Little things you'd like to see in GT5

Maybe less useless animations, less load screens, more customization(nfsu type) and the liscencing b.s. needed for the porches, ferraris, lambos, etc. :dopey:

I'd also like to see working accurate trackside racing displays, as well as bluring and doppler effects for sounds.

I really think the events need a lot more involvement, like a sort of career mode. You should be able to progress through a ranking system, where every tournament is only available once you reached a certain rank. Maybe even throw in a sort of RPG-style experience system for your driver. Your level would determine whether or not you have access to a certain class of cars. Other drives would also have a certain amount of xp and they should be able to earn more. The ones at the top of the ranking should start out with a lot more than you (you obviously start out with zero xp) and you'll only reach the #1 ranking if you manage to gather more xp than your opponents. Every race would have a certain amount of xp tied to it, based on the track itself, the number of laps, the number and the level of opponents, the class of cars in the race,... All of these factors should determine your prize money too, no more set prizes. Key tournaments would give you huge xp (and money) bonuses, and you'll have to repeat them every in-game year if you don't want your opponents to walk away with those bonuses (possibly taking the #1 ranking from you).
It would make a nice system for an online ranking too (but online and offline xp should be completely separated).

Once all the tournaments and single races are done (except the ones that come back annually) and you don't have the ability to play online, PD should include the possibility to create your own tournaments or have them generated for you. You would be able to choose as many races with as many laps you want, choose the number of participants, set race restrictions for anything that's customizable, make qualifying optional or compulsory, even pick the time of day and weather for each race if you want to. Again, xp and prize money would be calculated by the game itself, otherwise it would be too easy to give yourself loads of xp and money.

Qualifying should have more significance. Before each tournament, you'll need to qualify in order to enter. Let's say you got about 5 laps on a certain track, 100 drivers are qualifying (not actually on the track, but they get a certain best lap time) and there is room for 24 participants in the tournament. You'll need to nail a lap time that's among the best 24 to gain entrance to the tournament within those 5 laps. This will immediately determine your place in the starting grid for the first race. Of course, practice is unlimited in terms of laps.
There should still be cups that can be entered without qualifying though.

You ought to be able to train your pit crew to be faster and more efficient. I would also like to see an option where you can allow tire changing in a race or not (F1, anyone?), different sized pit crews where you can opt for 25 people or just 6 and smarter AI pit strategies (in GT4 they would always fill their car up to full again). Not too demanding, I think.

Actually, in GT4 you can press X or the gas pedal for the DFP users at any time during a pitstop to stop filling up your tank.

But yeah I wouldn't mind being a gradually improving pitcrew, might give you advantage in tight online races. :)

But your opponents wouldn't stop refuelling until they were full ... even if that meant putting in 79 units 👎

Nattefrost, those are some intriguing suggestions. It wouldn't be hard to assign basic experience points based on a few simple game factors, such as passing, avoiding collisions, following a good racing line, time spent in first place, car mqanagement, things like that as well as wins. When I told my ideas to a relative of mine and a GT addict, he was enthusiastic and called it, "Gran Turismo the RPG."

I was thinking of winning the semi-pro championship as the graduation to the pro circuits, but also needing a quality run reflected in "performance points" isn't a bad idea at all.

Another thing about weather. Before every race there should be a little box with a weather forecast. If it says there's rain coming soon, you'd better start the race with your wet tires equiped. Temperature will play a big role. If it's aroung 5 degrees (that's Celcius, I don't know what it is in Fahrenheit, sorry), you really don't want to start on hard tires, because they will provide terrible grip. Likewise, if it's really hot, better not equip soft tires or you'll have to make pitstops way too often. Anticipating the weather will add a new tactical layer to the game, especially in endurance races where the weather can change completely during the race.

Excellent. I know I've seen many of these ideas before but it's always exciting to see them restated.

These sorts of suggestions will add a lot of strategy to the game. Also make it more complex. I HOPE that we can pause the game in pit row, or the game pause itself, while we make decisions on what sort of tires, adjustments to suspension, amount of fuel or whatnot. Drivers get to discuss this in real life with their crew chief before pitting, and we don't have that luxury.

if they include modification options i think it would be cool to have some modifications for old Japanese cars too... something like this would be awesome:

Road glitches. Little glitches that bump the car and stuff. Most on city courses and rally races. Holes, mud, water etc.

would be great if car picked up dirt too.

hehe, shame on them if they dont put in dirt effects!!! I cant whait to see some more action screens. with tyre smoke and stuff, tyre marks too!!!

one more thing i want about the tyre smoke: it should depend on how warm the tyres are... so if you are burning the tyres it'll first not smoke at all but after a few secs when the tyres become warm it starts smokes more and more (same when drifting)

Car, tire, brake - and driver - warmup is a part of racing, so it's entirely possible that Kazunori will want it in there, along with the nuances of how the tires smoke warm vs cold.

yeah, hope he understand he needs to do something... he needs to do something about the yell of the tires sliding/burning too! they've had the same sound from GT1 to GT4! sounds horrible!

Hrm?? No they haven't. When I throw my Supra with Dunlops around a corner, it sounds very much like it does in GT4. Much better than in GT3, and leaps and bounds better than 2

Now I'm a hobbyist sound designer with my own synthesizers and samplers, and I can tell you that doing perfect engine and tire sound is nearly impossible. live4speed's vaunted GTR has the same problems with cheezy engine sounds if you rev your car and let it drop, and there's no tire squeal until you start to really push the edge even at low speeds. But these days, all the games give you a good representation of how it sounds to be driving or racing. GT4, except for a few engine sound quibbles, is excellent. They even have the Mercedes-Benz tire chirp.

I do expect to have some improvements in the next GT, such as doppler with sounds from the environment like crowd noise, and cars zooming by you, as well as proper engine samples of every car.

The cars are fine enough, I'd like to see some "play-ability" changes:

- The ability to pause in the middle of an endurance race (during pitstops?)

- The ability to see lap times from the last few laps (just like the GT, GT2, GT3...)

- Lap records visible for every race (just like GT1, or at least, GT2)

- Power restrictions for certain races (GT2).

- Races so that the same car doens't win every time. The "rabbit" car doens't make for anything other than a 2-car race. (GT2 mixed it up every so often)

- Random or varying prize cars, it made it more fun to re-run a series (like GT3). You just seem to know what you're going to win every time in GT4.

- What are we supposed to do with that Gymkhana, again?

- The diary's a nice touch, but could it save more info (car we won the race with), please?

- The ability to sort your garage by mileage (like GT3). The "Driven" feature is rather meaningless.

And a few features that I like just the way they are...so I'd like them to be retained for GT5.

+ Keep the all-bronze and all-silver license cars; some us aren't all-gold material!

+ Photo Mode: I didn't have much hope for this, but it's a neat feature.

+ B-spec! (Just fine, except give us 24x for the Enduros... :) )

+ Test Course...nicely swept under the rug in GT4!

+ Used cars; keep 'em.

More good suggestions. I have one more (assuming no one mentioned it before):

The option to set track records in any mode, and have these records categorized by test laps and race laps.
